  • The reviews don't lie!
Color: Flame Mahogany Veneer
I was immediately impressed upon delivery. The packaging is quality, and the company takes pride in its presentation. The materials are of great quality, from what I can tell. It plays and sounds great, with pretty decent fine-tuning ability. The instructions could use some work and a lot more detail, but if you use your logic, a couple of the steps are able to be solved. I will definitely be getting another kit! ... show more

  • Very impressed
Color: Flame Mahogany Veneer
I saw the bad reviews on this saying the veneer was thin or the wiring harness was bad, but did not see enough consistency in those reviews to be afraid of spending money on this, and I'm glad I didn't. The veneer: yes, its thin... its veneer. But as long as you dont hulk out when standing off the sealer that comes on the body, theres no issue. The electronics: I honestly cant say the quality. I already had some Seymour Duncan pickups and some controls that I put in. What I did notice though is that I saw nothing wrong with the harness. Everything was right where it should have been. And mo soldering required. It all had clips to hold it together. The action, fit, and neck were all surprisingly good right out of the box. I only needed to do a little adjustment for the intonation. The bad: The plastic piece that goes with the pickup switch is super thin (semi transparent) and mine was folded in half upon delivery. On the bridge, the A string for whatever reason is sitting lower than all of the others. This may just be a fluke with mine in particular, but it cant be adjusted and it causes some unwanted pinch harmonic sounds and fuzz (picture the intro to Money for Nohing, by Dire Straits) Overall I'm extremely impressed with the quality for the price of the kit. I highly recommend it to anyone. Only took me 2 weekends to build it start to finish. ... show more

  • My experience, first time builder
Color: Flame Mahogany Veneer
I have been playing guitar for 40+ years or so and always have done my repairs on all my guitars I've ever owned, so I know how they function and am very experienced in setting up a guitar. That being said, I am by all means not even, qualified wood worker or finisher. I learned a lot about painting and finishing putting this kit together. The actual assembly and setup only took me about 45 minutes, finishing it took me about a month. I made a lot of mistakes, errr, learned a lot of stuff, finishing it and now am a pretty good one. I only gave this review 4 stars because this project was not without issues from the manufacturer. First major problem I had was I made the same mistake a lot of people have and sanded through the veneer. Reading some info off the web I made the critical error of thinking the veneer was a lot thicker in the middle and only thin on the edges. Wrong, just a word of warning, the veneer is about 1 mm ALL OVER the face of the guitar. It can take 1 sanding to get the sealer off they put on it but that's it. Unfortunately, I had to sand twice to fix a mistake, so I ended up having to paint it a solid color due to going through the veneer. All the holes lined up perfectly on the kit I received. I thought I was going to have an issue with the bridge saddle posts and the string stop posts because when I did a dry fit with everything, the holes were exactly the same size as the posts and I thought I was going to have to glue them in, but after all the finishing was done, my lacquer filled them in a little and was able to pound them in successfully. When I first got it and did an inventory check of all the parts and found I was short 4 screws that hold the pickup frame, but I contacted the seller, and he sent me all 8 after I said I only needed 4. I can't say enough about how great the customer service is with this seller, and how fast the kit was sent to me, it actually came 2 days sooner than originally stated. He responded in less than 24 hours and made it right in 2 days before I even needed them so there was no hold up. But I do have to say, believe everyone that says the electronics are less than ideal. The pots worked either on or off, may have been a push button, so I replaced those with Toneshapers and replaced the pickups with Fleor High output Humbuckers and wow, this ax rocks! Once I had it all finished and set up, I couldn't believe the sound, it was almost like a Les Paul, and would definitely fool the untrained ear. I would say that it is in my opinion not a beginner kit to start on. All the parts fit perfectly, the neck was perfect, almost seemed like American made, the quality was just that good. If you are looking for a quality Les Paul kit, I would surely recommend BexGear. Fast shipping and excellent customer service. I now have a favorite fixed bridge ax! For a budget kit this kit rocks and worth the $179 easy. Just a side note, in all my research for this project, I found a kick ass clear for it. It is called "I can't believe it's not lacquer" by Solorez. It is a little pricy but well worth it. It is cured by UV in about 1 minute in direct sunlight or a suntan lamp, I used the latter. Completely cured and ready to polish in under 5 minutes if you only applied 1 coat. I put on about 6 coats and looks like Gibson did it. 1 pint will do 2 guitars @ 6 coats each, easy. And this stuff sands and polishes great. And there are 0 VOC, so it is safe to use without a respirator. It has a fiberglass resin smell but is quite tolerable. You can get it on Amazon. ... show more

  • Awesome DIY project if you are willing and able!
Color: Flame Mahogany Veneer
So you wanna build a guitar?? This is the kit for you. It's a bunch of work, be prepared to sand a lot. The veneer top is very thin and had pretty heavy marks from the factory sanding that were tough to get out. And there are no instructions, so be ready to google stuff! That said, you can get an amazing looking and sounding les Paul lookalike that you built yourself. If you are only buying this to save money, I would look elsewhere. It isn't for someone in a hurry. But once it's set up, and the intonation is adjusted, this thing sounds and looks great. I'm looking into their telecaster kit next!! ... show more

  • Really crappy body
Color: Flame Mahogany Veneer
UPDATE - Sept 6th 2023: Bumping up to 3 stars because I ended up making it work into a beautiful guitar as you can see in the 2 photos, however I feel I should describe all the problems I dealt with. This was by no means easy build, I have repaired, setup and upgraded multiple guitars in the past few years and I have some woodworking experience - I needed every bit of it all to complete this kit. As you see from the first photos, the top was a mess, patched, glued, all kinds of defects. I had to sand it, stain what I could and then cover the issues with airbrush. The neck pocket was not routed well, there was a line raised about 1mm in one of the corners and the rest was uneven. I had to file it down and eventually shim it to setup correctly. The nut is garbage, hollow cheap plastic - immediately plan to swap it with Graphtech or something proper. Tuners and the rest of the hardware were ok. Bridge holes were a bit large at first, but the top coat made them snug. Pickups were ok, nothing special but fine for a beginner. I ended up putting SD Seth Lover and it made a huge difference. Overall this was a hair pulling adventure. -- Might be able to get away with painting it, but staining this is a disaster. The top is patched with glue marks and all kinds of imperfections that show up through the stain. See photo. The rest of the kit looks ok for the price, but the body makes the whole thing garbage. ... show more
