  • Comfortable and looks OK, despite tacky logos
I bought this for my triathlon training bike (a vintage Raleigh street bike). It looks OK, if you overlook the tacky logos, and it works great. So far, I've put about 200 miles on my bike, and I'm happy with it. I did, however, use just plain electrical tape to secure it, rather than the tacky strips of silver logo'd black plastic it comes with. I think the electrical tape looks a lot better! If you want a fairly low cost, comfortable handlebar tape, you can't go wrong with this. And, it was pretty easy to put on. ... show more

  • Great looking bar tape, but could be longer.
The look and feel of this bar tape is great, but I wish the pieces were longer. I was very happy when I first started to wrap the bars because it felt thick and well padded. Then I realized it wasn't going to make it all the way, so I had to unwrap and stretch it, thus making it thinner and less padded. It still feels nice, just not as squishy as I wanted. On the upside, it gives my bike a classic look, matches my honey colored Brooks saddle almost perfectly, and I was able to hide nearly all of the logos. ... show more

  • Excellent
This is very, very nice. For me, it has enough cushion. I have some of those fake cork tapes, they have a slightly thicker cush but you sacrifice how well they lay down on the edges in the wraps. This tape wraps very well, the edges lay down, and once it's on, it looks very high quality. We wrapped it so the silver Deda logo did not show. Have only ridden with it in dry weather so far. We wrapped ours from the center of the bars toward the end, so did not use the cheapy thin black tape that comes with this to fasten the ends. We do ours old school style, wrapping from the center, securing at the ends with the bar plugs. Don't know about 'stretching', we did not do it. The stretch happens as you wrap. This is not a perfect match for my Brooks honey saddle, but close enough for me. It does match pretty well with the brown Origin 8 saddle with the copper rivets. For the price, compared to the $50-140 for other brands of leather tape, I am quite satisfied. Husband, a leather worker, says he thinks this actually is leather of some kind. Eh, I dunno. Still, it has the look. A dab of acetone from husband's fiberglass working supplies, and whatever small margins of silver lettering that showed up from the wrap was instantly disappeared. Very, very nice. ... show more

  • functional tape for a commuting EDIT: Wears poorly
Update, this stuff wears very poorly, the thin faux leather layer cracks and starts to develop little rips all over the top. Instead acting like a brown cork, and showing through more brown cork when it chips, it shows a black that contrasts the brown a lot. It also happened on the ends where you plug them very quickly. I would stay away, I should have just gone with the brooks, instead of three different types of tape that have not matched well or lasted long. I really like this stuff on my commuter. I have an antique brown brooks, and it is slightly close in color, but not quite there. I cant understand spending $80 on the brooks tape when they first time you get hit, or have someone put there handlebars on top of yours at a bike rack, it will get damaged. I also change my bar setups so often its nice to not have to worry about it. This stuff is tough, barely a mark on it. Good stretch when installing, but not too much. I really wish it came a little longer. I wrapped it closely enough to cover the Deda logos and it was just barely long enough. I also would like to wrap it closer to get a thicker feel, since this stuff is pretty thin and firm. Its far from soft, so I would not use this on my road bike, since I get numbness as it is. I leave my bike outside and this tape is really good when wet, doesn't absorb anything, although slightly slippery, for commuting I don't mind this. This seems to be the best looking, easiest to take care of, most durable brown tape option out there, especially if you want to match a leather seat. ... show more

  • looks great. Feels great
Put this on 2 bikes now, looks great. Feels great. Not a lot of padding but it doesnt purport to be a comfort gelgrip. For proper spacing, overlap with the edge of the tape between the 2nd and third row of perforations leaving 3 rows visible. You can get away with overlapping a little more on the drops (leaving 2 holes visible) but you'll have to stretch and space it further up top. I do this for extra padding in the drops but even wrap would necessitate 3 holes. 2 extra pieces included for brake levers: cut them in half and put them on sideways. The logo tape however is garbage. It doesn't stretch, there's very little of it, the logo comes off if you peel it back, and it will not readhere. Just use regular tape and toss the tape strips. ... show more

  • good bar tape, not as dark as it looks on the screen.
This is great bar tape. It really looks like leather. The Deda logo is a little obnoxious but overall good. It looks darker on the picture than it is in real life. The actual color of the tape is almost exactly like the brooks honey color leather saddles and bar tap. If you got the antique brown saddle from brooks like I did then it won't quite match. though it's not too noticeable. ... show more

  • Excellent feel, seems high quality
This product really looks and feels like leather. I applied it to our aircraft's flap lever; it seems like it would apply well to handle bars too. My only gripe is that the "Deda" print is a bit large. Covering it means you have a "the right" amount of overlap, but I've found a few places where I have a bit of silver peeking out. ... show more

  • Good, but not perfect
Beautiful dark, rich color. Matches the Orgin-8 Pro Uno Brown Saddle perfectly. Be careful when putting the tape on, don't pull to hard, I managed to rip mine. Also, the length was a bit short. I tried to cover up the logo, but ended up being a bit short. It's got a great feel and is padded on the back side. ... show more
