  • Wow!
This is one of those obscure films that genre fans MUST see! It's very fun and hardly dull. I was interested and invested from the moment it began to the time the credits rolled. The score is pretty great, the gore is awesome! I honestly loved the characters. They're all very colorful and memorable. Speaking of colors, this movie is very vibrant! So incredibly late-80s in look and music. I really loved it. If you like cheesy horror films or are just in love with the 1980s, check it out! I didn't imagine I'd enjoy this film so much but I really did. It's a must-see! ... show more

  • GOOD REPRESENTATIVE OF 80’S HORROR!!!
Pure ‘80s, over the top, horror fun with no brains! This film is a classic, remember the time period, disconnect your mind from the 21st century, turn off your inner Siskel and Ebert, lower your expectations and get on the ride.

  • 80's Cheesy Horror at it's BEST
All I will say is that this was everything I hoped it would be and more. It was so 80's it almost seemed like a characiture, yet it wasn't. It's just authentic 80's, but on steroids. The camp factor is high, but again, it's not on purpose. It's authentic. The effects were cool, the entertainment level high, and on the horror spectrum, I'd rate this a 10. 80's cheesy horror just doesn't get any better than this. ... show more

  • Exorcise the Exercise Equipment
It was the 80’s – a time of pastel colours, synthesizer music, free-roaming yuppies and butt-flossed aerobics devotees. And guess what kids? They’re all here in Gorgon/MPI’s “Death Spa” (a.k.a. “Witch Bitch”). So put on some spandex, jump into the Way Back machine with me and let’s enjoy every neon-lit minute of this New Wave shocker – and don’t forget your hair gel. This long lost (deliberately forgotten?) horror cheese-fest finally makes an official appearance on disc after years in obscurity and I may be the only person on earth who is actually happy about it. It’s not a great film and it doesn’t make a lot of sense (none at all really), but it is quite stylish and features some impressive steadicam work and eye-catching set design. The musical score is pure 80’s synth, the gore FX are all practical and the cast members all have big hair and vague expressions like you’d see in a music video. It’s an almost perfect time capsule of an era where style was more important than substance, unless that substance was cocaine. The plot is confused and confusing, but basically the vengeful ghost of a wronged woman infiltrates a computer which controls the equipment in a fancy health club and kills a lot of people. Hard-boiled cops from central casting investigate and demonstrate that they are completely useless, just like real cops. Multiple deaths ensue until the health club is ...well, I’ll let you watch it. The director adds some visual flourishes here and there that don’t really advance the story, so be prepared for pointless montages of lycra-clad nubiles, people on fire in the desert, tours of nouveau riche 80’s mansions and a colour palette straight out of a Duran Duran clip. (O.K., O.K., the lycra-clad nubiles are awesome). “Death Spa” was previously released on disc by a bootleg outfit called “Mom and Pop Video Store”, and also by a European label called “Shock” way back in the 90’s (their video transfer was more horrifying than the movie), so this release is a massive, eye-popping improvement. The audio is not a 5.1 mix (2 channels only) but it’s clear and really rocked my speakers (and annoyed my neighbours). Extra features include a comprehensive documentary about the making of the film, two trailers and a humorous commentary featuring all the main offenders in which at least one of the participants is drunk (or maybe that was just me - this is a great film to enjoy over a few drinks). Speaking for my horror-fan self, it is great to see this cheesy classic finally given the deluxe treatment on disc. Now will somebody please release “Pledge Night” on Blu-ray so I can complete my collection? ... show more

Like B horror? This one is a gem! Who doesn't want to see a haunted gym/spa turn against its clientele?

Violent? Yes. Campy? Certainly. Original? Definitely. This not-so-classic haunted house, err, gym flick is sure to please anyone who digs trashy, so bad that it's good schlock. The recently resurrected Gorgon Video did horror fans a solid by giving this obscure gem the Blu-Ray treatment.
