While exercising about 5 months ago, I landed too hard on my right heel causing a painful condition called plantar fasciitis. I've been receiving professional medical assistance from a foot and ankle specialist as we work together to heal this condition. Plantar fasciitis is frustrating, since it's resistant to anti-inflammatory meds. The only things that heal this condition are stretching, icing, time, behavior modification, and good shoes. Specifically, wearing shoes that: 1.) control your foot's lateral movements by eliminating your heel's ability to slip from side to side, 2.) features a central, non-bendable, design that provides structured arch support and 3.) features a removable insert so that custom orthotics can be used as required. These Danskos clogs meet every single one of these requirements, and were actually on a list of shoes recommended to me by my doctor! My doctor also recommended that I should "size up", which I found surprising. I typically wear US 7.5-8s and have always purchased true to size. After struggling with sizing, I decided to just follow my doctor's instructions: IT WAS 100% THE RIGHT THING TO DO. From the second I slipped these clogs on, I noticed an immediate drop in my pain levels. To be clear: I wear US 7.5-8s and purchased Dansko UK 39s / US 8.5-9s. They fit like a dream. So! If you are suffering from plantar fasciitis or have a job where you are constantly on your feet for extended periods of time, do yourself a solid and BUY THESE SHOES!! I love these shoes and wear them most days. Sizing is tough though for Americans. I normally wear a 9.5/10 and the size 40 fits ok. I could size up for some more space. My other Danskos are a 41 and they seem a bit loose. They will stretch a bit with wear.

Returned. Good points: very well made, roomy toe box, gives height without a high heel because of thicker platform sole. Downside: weird hard plastic lines the back of the heel. With every step my heel would lift out of the shoe. I also found the inside to not be very cushy. Possibly with time it would mold to your feet. An insert would help but I have a tall foot. Had I put in anything padded the top of the shoe would have put too much pressure on the top of my foot. Sizing seemed accurate but if I wanted to wear heavy socks again the top of my foot would be squished. It is leather so over time it would have stretched. I returned them because my foot lifting out with each step was a deal breaker. ... show more
