Featuring an added layer of cushioning in the midsole and a dampening heel cup, we used a polyurethane footbed to ensure that comfort won't break down over time. The breathable, moisture-wicking mesh liner keeps you cool in hot climates and the Tanicus traction outsole's pentagonal lug pattern gives you stability in diverse terrain. I've always heard great things about Danner, but couldn't afford their US-made boots (though they're undoubtedly worth the price), and I initially didn't trust the quality of their imported models. But I eventually decided on trying these Vietnam-made Tanicus boots because A) the price is right in that mid-tier sweet spot, B) reviews around the internet have been positive, and C) in my experience, Vietnam-made clothing/gear/footwear actually tends to be pretty high quality. These were the main selling points for me: - Reasonably lightweight (for a combat boot) - No "tacticool" or "operator" styling. I wanted a classic, conservative boot design that won't attract attention - Breathable construction with instep vents. My feet run hot already, and no "waterproof" boot I've ever owned has actually stayed waterproof. I'd rather them just get wet but drain freely and dry quickly - Moderately aggressive tread pattern Upon inspecting the boots out of the box, I noticed there wasn't a single stitch out of place and the fit & finish was impeccable. No sloppy stitch lines, no off-center eyelets (both were a big problem with my old Bellevilles), and not a single stray thread. I have wide feet and wear a 13 in Vans shoes so I ordered 13W and they fit like they were made for my feet. (Danners always run narrow so order accordingly. Their website has a great tool that will provide a size suggestion based on the shoe brands/styles you already wear.) The toe box is plenty wide and my heel stays locked in place. Initially, there was a little pressure at the top of my ankle, where the leather bends inward as your foot flexes upward (other reviews have mentioned this, too), but it went away after the 1st mile and hasn't come back since. If it comes up, try loosening the laces instead of tightening them. This has been an issue with every new pair of boots I've ever owned. The boots feel nimble and planted, but still offer great ankle support and roll resistance. Very stable. My first day in them I did a quick 2-mile break-in hike in steep/muddy/rocky terrain and didn't have a single issue - a first EVER for me. I was blown away. And I still don't have a single gripe yet with these boots. But looking at some of the negative reviews, the only word of caution I'd offer is: Don't expect these to be the bulletproof boots that weigh 8 lbs each, can crush rocks underfoot like they were styrofoam, and are still on your feet in 15 years. This isn't that boot, and it's ok. This boot is light, agile, extremely comfortable, and will take about anything you can throw at it for a good 2 to 5 years before you replace with the next pair. If you need more than that, then you probably shouldn't be looking at mid-tier, imported, sub-$200 boots in the first place. For the rest of you: I highly recommend this boot! I think Danner found a perfect mix of comfort and capability - without sacrificing their reputation for quality - in an imported, affordable boot.

**1year update after original post** Great product! Great boot! Holds up much better than most. 6 months of use and it's great. I purchased this through wardrobe with several different sizes to choose from just incase I needed to try on a few. So after one year of use normal , wearing them three to four days a week, alternating with shoe and other boots, this seems to be the best boot I have ever owned. I live in a southernmost part of the United States where it's hot and humid most of the year especially in the summer, these are lightweight and easy on the feet on those hot days, They are still comfortable, still holding up, no rips no tears, I've got to say these Danner boots fantastic boot. 3 years in Wearing them now weekly in construction jobs. Strictly new construction, they have lost their new look, the rubber around the stiching have taken a beating the stitches on the outer ball of the foot have been rubbed and weared down. Minor stains and oil spots can be seen, and water has a tendency to sleep in the sides now. But that is all the cons, the original review holds up , still very light , which is needed in S. FL, it's hot and muggy, but these Danner boots don't feel as though they are bricks and are still comfortable. I've not had any complaints in light of what I put them through. A new inner sole every year helps as it always does. Great boot. If you need a pair to keep with you, theses are them. Hope this helps.

I read the reviews from the other amazon members and heeded the warning of "small" sizing. I picked out the critical detail that it wasn't necessarily the length of fit that was the issue, but rather the width. Keeping this in mind, I ordered accordingly and was absolutely happy with the fit and the comfort of the boot. Size: Ordinarily I wear between a size 9 Med and a size 9 1/2 Med, depending upon what the footwear is (boot vs slip on vs sneaker) and where it was manufactured (these were made in Vietnam)...just a general variance in manufacturers I suppose. In the Tanicus, I ordered the Mojave 9 1/2 2EE size and it was a perfect fit. Very comfortable! Construction and features: The boots appear to be well made with overall good construction. Stitching appears good and without errors. I've only worn them for a couple of days in daily activities, so no long range heavy duty hikes yet. Time will tell. The sole has good traction, and has a medium flex stiffness to it. The rubber is somewhat grippy on painted floors and linoleum, yet is not "eraser soft". Cushioning is great. The tongue is slightly padded for comfort, and inside the boot there is a soft, woven mesh-type bootie with the weave "open aired" enough that when you look inside the boot, you can see through the ankle/side-foot material with a light on the outside of the boot. That = cooling to me. The outside material weave is tight enough and rugged enough though that it repelled a playful foot-attack by my cat (has all of his claws) without penetration. The lacing eyelets appear to be metal and sturdy, and there is a fabric lacing loop on the aft side of the toe-box to give the option of lacing the first set of eyelets in a triangle with the apex pointing toward the toes, or simply straight across like the usual ...your choice. Overall, I have to give this boot 5 stars---they are my new favorite boots--- but that's because the reviewers that came before me provided valuable information with their experiences. If I had ordered my regular sizing in these boots, I'm convinced that they would have been returned for width issues. I would buy these again in a heartbeat.

Almost sneakers with a unyeildingly hard sole. They run a little small in the length. My concern if I went smaller is the heel cup is wide so hot spots can be an issue. The rubber on the sole walls does cup the bottom of the foot and the leather is multi layered so I’m not sure these would ever break in to become one with the foot, like a great pair of boots should. The lace web has room for days so as the leather and nylon mesh stretches you’ll have take-up. Could be good boots for garrison or standing guard/watch until they have a chance to conform to the foot. The insole is a standard small cell foam type with almost too much cushioning, one I plan on replacing ASAP for better arch support. All in all, good boot for the price initially. The stitching looks ‘bullet proof, leather is high quality and thick. Prior Infantryman so I’d like to think I know boots, but I’m old school when it comes to boot preference.

For context, I bought these bad boys for Air Force Field Training in camp Shelby MI, in the middle of the ball-sweat-humid and red-hot summer. For multiple weeks I wore these everyday for about 14-16 hours. I marched on roads everywhere I went and did excersizes in the middle of the forest. When I wasn't moving I was either standing in these or sitting with them on. I gave them a ton of use in all sorts of ways and am writing this review after owning these boots for about 2 months. These things are great! They're SUPER lightweight, putting on any other boot after wearing these feels like having cinder blocks on my feet. They're also pretty manuverable, I could do pretty much anything I could in sneakers while wearing these. I expected to have to break them in but they honestly feel like slippers from day one. They are really comfortable and have good padding. The support for the arch of my foot is a little lacking, but after putting boot oriented soles in to replace the stock ones I have no complaints (Though the stock ones are good on their own). They have the creature comforts you want in a work boot, thick laces that are comfortable to tie and stay tied, along with being rugged so they don't wear down and rip. Additionally, the tab on the back to pull them on with is a much smarter route than traditional webbing loops. The boots themselves seem to be built well, I haven't had anything start to wear or rip. Finally, they are cool. Feels like good airflow! Overall definitely a fan of these and a happy customer. If you're looking for a good pair of hot weather boots these are your best bet.

This is my 4th pair of Danner boots. Danners are the best blend of quality and fit of any brand. The pair I'm retiring lasted me four years, and the pair I have is in its fourth year, going strong. Usually, I wear a size 10.5 EE or a size 11 DD. In this cut, the 11 EE fit me the best. The 11 DD was too narrow. Keep that in mind when picking your size; they tend to run small. The lace pouch is a nice innovation.

I purchased these boots because I own a ranch in the California Desert. All of the boots I have worn in the past have not had enough airflow And would cause my feet to sweat significantly. The good: The boots feel amazing. They fit well, light weight, and plenty of airflow in the heat. I walk probably 6-15 miles a day in them depending on the day and they are always very comfortable. The lacing system on them is fantastic, I can put them on or take them off in seconds. I’ve walked over granite, they are very grippy and hold onto the rock no problem. I’ve cut brush, dug holes, fixed fence, processed livestock, and despite the work my feet never sweat. The bad: The boots are just not made well. Period. The glue and the stitching is just not the quality I’d expect from a Danner product. The right boot stitching has come apart in less than 6 months. The eyelet or whatever it’s called for airflow at the bottom of the shoe has completely come off. These boots will finish the year but be retired to lawn cutting boot once the rains come back. The thing is, if I paid half the price I did for these boots I’d give them 5 stars. But danner is charging danner prices for sub danner quality. I am an EMT, I have danner boots for EMS work. I have the pronghorns when I hunt. The adventure 650’s when I hike. The quarry’s for when I need a steel toe. I usually only buy danner boots but this pair of boots has just lacked the quality needed to be stamped with the danner name.
