  • Early Review, Will Update If Needed
Color: Duratex Ripstop Charcoal Size: 38W x 30L
As the title states, this is an early review for the pants that just arrived. If they end up being poor quality or if I have any issues I will update this review. With that out of the way: these pants are 5 stars. I was pleasantly pleased to see YKK zippers (it may have listed this in the description and I somehow missed it). The material feels really nice and sturdy, exactly as my 5.11 tactical pants do. The colors (I ordered 4 different) are really nice and while the display you see them on can make them appear one way or another, they were exactly as pictured for me. I bought these a size bigger than I wear to conceal carry and that was perfect (38 instead of 36). To me, these run true to size. The length is good as well. I typically use a 28 length (I'm short and chunky, what can I say) and these only came in 30. They don't look terribly too long, maybe ever so slightly, but not enough to be ridiculouse by any means (I won't even bother getting them hemmed). The legs are also tight enough as to not allow them to slip under my shoes/boots, which is a huge plus considering they are slightly too long for me. The cell phone pocket on either side of the pant is large enough for me to put my Pixel 6 Pro very nicely. It sticks out ever so slightly, but not too bad. My Note 20 Ultra in a Unicorn Beetle case is a super tight fit but it does go in and out with minimal effort. I believe most phones would fit without issue. The stitching seems really good, I don't see any frays realy. The velcro is nice and tight and appears stitched in place nicely as well. The belt loops are wide enough to use a duty belt without issue, with the front 2 loops being open enough to actually hold the excess belt that comes through the buckle. I don't kow what these usually run as far as price, but I paid $31 USD during a Black Friday sale. These are definitely worth that price and then some. If you are on the fence, just pull the trigger and thank me later. ... show more

  • Very well made. No use paying $80 for it's big name brand competitor
Color: Duratex Ripstop Black Size: 36W x 30L
I love these pants and have about 6 pair. The pants fit perfectly and true to size. I'm about halfway between a 36" waist size and 38" so I usually go with the 38" and just tighten my belt a little tighter. The down side of that strategy is they want to slide down my waist if I'm hiking or out for a 2 mile fitness walk. Every pair of pants does that on me and jeans are the worst offenders. When I say these had an expandable waistband I had to try them. Perfect! I can wear the 36" and there's enough give that they never feel too tight, and the 36" fits so much better overall. These pants have a coating that repeals just about anything. I slipped coming down a steep hill in NC on Whiteside Mountain and literally fell in a muddy puddle. It had been raining for a few days before our hike and some areas were very slippery. I jumped up really fast because there were so other hikers behind us an it embarrassed me to fall like I did, Lol. We were just about 50 yards to the trail head and when I opened the door to our Jeep, my wife said I needed to change my pants before getting in. This was the first time that I looked down and there was literally nothing on them. My wife couldn't believe me and had to do an full inspection before I could get in the Jeep. When we were leaving she was laughing at my fall of course and saying how my pants didn't get wet or muddy. These pants are amazing and have plenty of pockets but still offer a sleek profile. Highly recommend for any outdoorsy people in any capacity and for me hiking. ... show more

  • Decent, but falls short of the 5.11 equivalent
Color: Duratex Ripstop Coyote Size: 40W x 32L
I am comparing these with the 5.11 Tactical Men's Taclite Pro Lightweight Performance Pants, which I have owned for several years. When they arrived, laid them both out and did a side by side comparison. Both pants are laid out similarly with 7 wide belt loops, 8 pockets and gusseted crotch. The 5.11s have a third small flap pocket on the left side that I really like for carrying my knife and/or Mini Maglite - this is second small slash pocket on the CQRs. The rear pockets on the CQRs are flap pockets, which I prefer to the deep slash on the 5.11s that goes down to about the middle of the thigh. This is great for carrying things like a folding saw, but is problematic for holding things like a wallet, which slips down to the back of your leg. The CQR has a riveted waist button closure, where as the 5.11 uses a snap. I put the rear pockets and button closure as advantages for the CQR brand. Below, I point out a couple of important comparative shortcomings that go along with the 33% lower price of the CQRs which prevents me from giving them 5 stars. First, the material is much thinner and less tightly woven on the CQRs - when held up to the light, it's easy to see light coming through the individual strands of fabric (see photos) and the slash pocket fabric is very thin. Second, although the stitching on the CQRs looks like there is double fabric on the knees and seat, there is only a single layer. Both these wear areas are double fabric on the 5.11s. This might be an advantage in coolness and weight (650g for the CQRs vs. 704g for the 5.11s), but at the expense of ruggedness. Third, the side flap pockets are mounted much higher on the CQRs, which means that the contents of the slash pocket will overlap with the contents of the side pockets, making for the possibility of less than ideal bulk when you have stuff in both. For $30 (Black Friday price) this is a good pair of pants, but for for my camping and hiking needs, the cons outweigh the pros with respect to the 5.11s for $15 more. However, if you primary interest is in a pair of lightweight hot weather outdoor activity pants that doesn't include a lot of sitting or kneeling on rocks or other rough terrain, these budget pants are worth considering. ... show more
