I just installed this on my back deck and it seems to be pretty much exactly what I hoped for. Time will tell, but at least initially, I am very happy with both the appearance and the functionality. (And the size matched what I ordered: 6' wide by 8' tall.) If you want extra bungee receivers so that you can secure the bottom of the shade at different heights, they are inexpensive, but as far as I can see they can only be ordered direct from Coolaroo's web site. (They're listed in the "replacement parts" section.) I do have a few other notes: 1) I found the appropriate drill bit size for the pilot hole in my softwood beam to be 1/8" (might want slightly larger for hardwood). The instructions specified a larger drill bit size (3/16") but I tested first and that was much too large for the screws that came with the shade — had I drilled pilot holes before checking, I would have been very unhappy. (Their specified size might be appropriate if using the optional anchors, but I didn't need them.) 2) When I mounted the end units, I was very slightly higher on one end than the other. When extended all the way, the bottom of my shade is visibly not level. I'm guessing this is because of my end unit placement error, so I recommend being very precise with the vertical placement when mounting the end units. (Due to the slotted screw guides instead of screw holes, you have some leeway horizontally. It might be a challenge, but in an ideal world one of the end caps would have some kind of control letting you fine tune the vertical position too.) 3) I initially attempted to swap the clutch to the left side but to do that you have to swap the end plugs on the shade tube, and I was unable to pull those end plugs out. It wasn't important in my case, so I simply gave up and used it as-is, but for anyone who needs to do this, it might be a struggle unless there's some trick which simply eluded me. ... show more

This is the 5th Coolaroo shade we've purchased. We love these shades! Durable and blocks the sun. The other 4 we purchased 5 years ago have held up beautifully and have only had to replace the bungee cords, which you can also order through Amazon. We have high winds so it is necessary to roll the shades up when the wind picks up but other than that these are the very best shades we've found. ... show more

The shade lacing is sturdy and well made. I like the muted colors of the driftwood one a lot. The roller function is much better than the cords I have on many indoor similar blinds. The only problem I had was the difficulty installing it. Really need two people or putting a temp bracing under it. Also the holes for the screws were too close to the end of the brackets to get in with a screwdriver, even with an extra long bit Thus also hard to place, slide into place evenly and tightly. Though the instructions detail how to ceiling mount, the bracket does not show the screws as mentioned until you slide up the plastic piece. That detail was missing from instructions. See pictures in what to move first.

    • Blocks a Lot of Heat

We are very happy with the purchase of these in driftwood. Our bedroom windows face west and it was extremely hard to keep the bedroom cool without freezing out the rest of the house. These installed fairly easily with two people and I like the cordless feature. We can still see outside the windows and shades without anyone being able to see in, and the temperature reduction is incredible! There is a metal bar that slides over the bottom of the bamboo shade, but there are no caps for either end. I am hoping wasps don’t try to get into the bar. ... show more

I had been putting off buying a blind for my outdoor patio because I thought it would detract from the oneness and be difficult to put up. However the afternoon heat and sun convinced be to give it a try. This blind is perfect! Very easy to install and looks very nice on my patio. I love how it is sheer enough to see through but still blocks the intense rays and heat of the sun. Wish I would have done this years ago! ... show more
