I love Chucks. They're my favorite everyday knockabout shoe for jeans or shorts. That said, they have some peculiarities. They tend to run about a half-size big in length. At the same time, they're kind of narrow for me. So rather than going DOWN a half-size (as most people recommend) I tend to go UP a half size, to accommodate my hobbit-like feet. I end up with about an inch of headroom at the toe, but the shoe doesn't slide around or anything. In fact, the sidewall of the sole still ends up separating from the canvas at the ball of my foot, long before the shoes are worn out. Oh well. I've grown accustomed to it. The trade-off is, (at least for me) it's almost like going barefoot. I wouldn't want to run a mile in them, but they're plenty comfy to wear all day. I tend to look for sales because $50 is a bit high for what I basically treat as a disposable shoe. But at $40 or below, they're worth every penny. Oh, and if you want arch support, throw in an insert. I moved the inserts from a fancy-pants pairs of Chucks over to a pair of slip-ons, and I have to admit, it's pretty nice. I've been wearing converse for the last 20 years. What happened to the quality? My first pair lasted 6 years before they started separating. I have worn these 4 times. 4. And the side near the toe is already separating. Long time loyal, but I'll find other shoe.
