I recommend this book shelf. Very sturdy! The middle shelves are the only ones not adjustable. Instructions are not that clear but easy to install. The backing is a bit cheap, due to the size it is put together by tape. Not an issue when placed against the wall. Exactly what we were looking for!

The backboard is held together by duct tape. The instructions are just flat out wrong. The instructions and images for each instruction don’t match. And the amount of pieces used in each step do not match with what you have to do. If you already know how to assemble book cases that will help a lot. The back is a very thin panel, almost thinner than a piece of crappy cardboard, and there’s two large piece that are connected with normal packing tape. ... show more

These are beautiful. I shopped around for forever and settled on these, to try and save some money. After I placed my order, I had instant regret!!! I was scared that they were going to look cheap. Well… they don’t! They look so beautiful, they don’t look cheap at all, and I saved a couple thousand dollars going this route. I am so pleased. Definately a two person job to set up after assembly though, because they are extremely heavy. Now, time to bring in the boxes of books from the garage. ... show more

This set of shelves is mostly made of an "engineered wood product" (MDF - medium-density fiberboard), but all visible surfaces are covered with real wood veneer. In addition, most of the smaller edging and trim pieces are solid wood. The shelves have a front edge piece, also of real wood, which although it slightly decreases the height of the shelf below, increases the strength of the shelves so that they won't sag under a full load of books, even long-term. The end result is a bookshelf that looks like a real piece of furniture, or even a built-in depending upon how it's placed, and definitely not like a typical Ikea-type product. There was a bit of odor from the product, probably due to the finish still outgassing (the surfaces are real wood, remember, so they are finished with stain and some sort of finish, probably polyurethane); however, the odor was completely gone in a day or two. My only complaint is that the back shear panel, although nice enough looking from the front, is still the typical heavy cardboard with a laminated visible side. I took off one star, not because of this (there's really no other practical material in the price range, and from the front it looks and feels just fine), but because it's not recessed, so that the edges of the material are visible from the side. If they're not visible in your application, this won't be a problem at all. And did I mention big? These arrived in two boxes, both of which weighed 100+ pounds - you'll probably want to get some help loading them in. Once in the house, I was able to assemble them by myself with no problem, which took about 3 hours (taking my time). The instructions were clear enough, but many of the pieces weren't labeled. Once assembled, I could stand them up and maneuver them OK - they weigh around 250 pounds. As another reviewer noted, having a big open floor space to work in is definitely a plus, and make sure that you measure the space you're planning to put them in - they're every millimeter of the 72 inch width. All things considered, I'm very happy with the shelves. They would look right at home in a lawyer's office - they're that nice looking and feeling. Our home has quite a bit of built-in wooden cabinetry, and these stand up to that look just fine (except for that exposed back...). ... show more

Looks great in the office. Assembly was ok but directions were lacking in detail! Delivery by FedEx was poor. One driver with a pathetic 2 wheeler cart that would have broken if used.
