I'm well seasoned hiker with more than 50 years of hiking mostly in the US SW. After hiking in boots with Vibram outsoles that are relatively stiff and heavy for several years, I decided to purchase moderately flexible outsole boot that is not waterproof and provides high ventilation capability and is relatively low weight. In the SW US the climate is relatively dry and warm for most of the year; accordingly, waterproofing is not needed for a hiking boot and high ventilation is definitely desirable. Most hiking trails in the SW US are relatively rocky for a significant part of the trail -- see image. I purchased the Columbia Benson with some trepidation because of low cost and low weight relative to mainstream hiking boots available to purchase. Well, that trepidation has vanished because since buying the Columbia Benson boot in late Jan 26, I've hiked about 45 miles in them on well maintained and rocky trails (again see image) and they have performed exceptionally well. In particular, the boot grip is outstanding on all of the trail surfaces I've hiked and they are very comfortable. I can't comment on the Benson longevity; i.e., how many miles of hiking before failing or wearing out. So, I definitely recommend them for hiking (not necessarily for backpacking with a 25+lb backpack) provided you're looking for a well ventilated, low weight boot for hiking in a relatively dry climate such as the SW US. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I purchased these Columbia Benson Mid shoes and I’m very happy with them. They are comfortable right out of the box and didn’t require any break-in time. The ankle support is excellent and provides great stability, especially when walking on uneven surfaces. The sizing was accurate, exactly as described. The design is practical and looks good, easy to match with casual or outdoor clothing. I highly recommend these shoes if you’re looking for comfort, support, and reliability. I have 2 other types of Columbia hiking/walking shoes/Boots which have been very comfortable and held up very well. These Columbia mens Benson mids are comfortable right out of the box and do get even better with more wear. The quality of this boot appears to be very good and im sure I will get many years of use. I always get the wide width due to the toe boxes feel too narrow to me with a D width. Very pleased with these boots and highly recommended. ... show more

Wore them out on my first hike to break them in and they were pretty good. The ankle support is great and they’re pretty comfy. I will say they may run a half size bigger than you’d expect and can get warm though. I think it’s a fantastic fall and spring hiking boot thus far.

I searched high and low for a hiker that wasn’t waterproof and was vented to wear in hot weather. I’ve worn these hikers for as long as 16 hours in hot weather and my feet didn’t sweat at all. I got these to wear for work and after being on concrete all day I have no fatigue. They are very cushioned, very lightweight and super comfortable. The grip is great. I normally wear size 11 but ordered a half size up and they fit great. I got the mid high hiker but I’m looking at getting a second pair in the low version to wear for everyday use. ... show more

Haven't had a chance to wear them yet as far as doing a full review I gave them a three they seem nice but they are described as brown and the picture shows a darker regular colored brown. But they are a very light colored maybe more of a khaki. I decided to keep them anyway. If you look at the pictures I shared compare them to the picture on Amazon you will see they are not close to the same. Just keep it in mind if you are looking for Brown. ... show more

I am impressed. I do not do a lot of reviews but I felt obligated because I believe I got more than I paid for. These are excellent. No they aren’t waterproof. The ad doesn’t say that. They are very water resistant and breathable. You can feel the air blowing into them in front of a fan and I just went through a tremendous amount of rain with only a small wet spot on 1 of my sock. Very comfortable. A+. The gray ones are very sharp but I had a drop of diesel on the top and it shows. Hopefully it’ll wash off. ... show more
