My husband liked these shoes too and guess who’s closet they’re in now... husbands! My husband likes expensive shoes, the fact that I bought a shoe that he actually loved is a surprise!     • Nice Shoes with a few Flaws
As other posters have noted, the dark brown color has some strong reddish tones to it, making it closer to a burgundy than a typical dark brown. This was perfect for me, so I was very happy with the color. The leather is decent quality and holds a shine relatively well. Two things about these shoes could be better, in my opinion. The first is that the leather is very stiff, they wore holes in my heels the second time I wore them, which gave me a deeper appreciation for what women regularly sacrifice in the name of fashion. After this episode, I went after the heel leather by hand, bending it down into the shoe in an effort to break it down a bit. I also applied some leather conditioner and this has really improved the comfort of these shoes, I would highly recommend it! Additionally, the heels in these things are not insignificant. I am used to wearing relatively flat shoes, so this has been a big adjustment and, really, a drawback for me. I have to change how I walk when I wear these shoes, which is kind of a pain. That said, I do like the wooden look of the heels and the look of the shoe overall, so I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of satisfaction for fanciness. Overall, a very good pair of shoes with just a couple negatives that won't let me give these shoes five stars. ... show more

I own another pair of Cole Haan dress shoes, and when I need to replace an older pair of brown dress shoes (non-Cole Haan), I figured I'd try another of their styles. WOW. Pain that I had been experiencing in my knees is now gone! I'm on my feet all day and when I need a sleek and professional shoe that doesn't sacrifice comfort, I turn to Cole Haan. Despite not having the Nike Air like many of the other Cole Haan shoes, these still provide excellent support and grip while walking. These shoes are also quite evidently made of outstanding materials and the craftsmanship is also very high. Many people may think that these are expensive shoes, but given their durability and quality - they are an incredible value that will easily outlast their less-expensive counterparts. These shoes have a great fit around my foot. They are not loose fitting or bulky like many other dress shoes. I also really love the color of the shoe it self. It is a perfect shade of brown. Finally, my favorite part of this shoe is the the clean profile of the shoe on feet. These shoes look and feel great, they are my favorite pair or dress shoes! They took a 5-6 wears to break in and my feet did hurt a lot during the process, but once they are broken in they are great. This is a very high quality shoe for the price. Laces are longer than other shoes I have and it makes them easy to tie and they stay laced up. I have a pair of J&M Melton's in black that I hate wearing now because of these shoes. They are just more comfortable and better fitting. ... show more

Browns can be such a difficult color for men to use since it seems as if every designer has a different interpretation of what "dark brown" is. I thought I had hit a stroke of luck in finding these great looking oxfords on Amazon and from the pictures, thought that they would match my belt and watch perfectly, however upon unboxing them, I was disappointed to see that the shoes carried much more red in them than the product picture lead me to believe and I had no choice but to send them back – in truth, their coloring was closer to an oxblood or red-brown than a chocolate or wooden dark brown. I hope these pictures help better illustrate my point and can keep others from making my same mistake. Hopefully Cole Haan will put out a "browner" version soon as I still think that these will make a great pair of dress shoes. ... show more

    • Poor Quality - Incorrect sizing
Very disappointed with these shoes for a number of reasons. First, size is way off. I ordered an 11.5 Wide which turns out to be shorter and narrower than some 11M shoes I have. Shoes are visibly narrower out of the box. The pair I got were made in India and the quality is not up to Cole Haan expectations. Finish is kind of sloppy with visible glue. Sole and heel are extremely cheap plastic, not rubber. Also had a bad odor. Understandable that they were priced down from $198 to $98 with all discounts. Would not pay $20 for these shoes. Too bad because the pictures look great! Must have taken the pictures from US made shoes! Really wish we could get country of origin info on all products. Anyway, no problem returning them but a waste of time for everyone. ... show more
