Description

Approaching the new season at West Point, Army football had one goal in mind... win. After 27 consecutive victories in the last few seasons, Army gained the reputation as winners and honorable leaders. With Coaches Blaik and Lombardi constantly drilling the team, pushing them to their limits and leaving little room for school and cadetship, the squad must remember their vow: A cadet will not lie, cheat or steal. George Holbrook, a young running back with great potential at Army, struggles with the relentless stress and finds himself caught in a situation where he has to choose between loyalty and honor, a double-edged sword that jeopardizes everything Army stands for.

  • Well Worth Watching.
A very good watch. The system they were in was exactly the same system I endured and it was well presented. They broke the code and they knew it and they paid and accepted the price. They were good men and went on to good lives after their expulsion. It's too bad one guy pushed the others to break the rules -- he's the one that should have been expelled and the others should have been re-oriented and would have eventually gone on to be good Army officers. ... show more

  • NOTHING LESS THAN EXCELLENCE
This is true of this video. The movie I found good but the extras are excellent. If any flaw, the director seems to ignore an important part of the code. "A cadet must not lie, cheat or steal" is stressed but the remaining part of the code, "or tolerate those who do," is down played, obviously in sympathy to the code violaters and to enhance the plot. Excellent all around dvd and am giving it as gifts to my brothers for Fathers Day who will enjoy the sports history aspect and the very informative and interesting extras. ... show more

  • Great performances
Moral dilemmas abound! This film tells the story of how a cheating scandal torpedoed West Point's football season in the 1950's. What makes this story unique is how the school's code of honor dictated that anyone who knew of the cheating and didn't report it were punished as severely as the cheaters. ... show more

  • Good movie by ESPN
I'm about to share my perspective on the 2005 film "Code Breakers." This movie delves into the cribbing scandal that occurred at West Point, primarily involving football players. The movie explicitly mentions that this misconduct took place prior to the 1950/51 season. In the film, Scott Glenn takes on the role of Coach "Colonel" Earl "Red" Blaik. Despite initial assumptions, the movie doesn't aim to vilify Army football; rather, it handles the subject matter respectfully. The concluding scenes depict the players accepting responsibility for their actions and stepping down. The players implicated in the scandal ensured that the senior cadets ("Firsties") graduated and promptly joined the front lines of the Korean War. The movie concludes by sharing on-screen captions that highlight how several players pursued college football with other teams, while others continued their military service. Notably, one individual even achieved the rank of Lieutenant General. For those with an interest in the history of Army Football, I recommend giving this movie a watch. ... show more

  • Great Learning Experience Movie for Older Kids...
My fourth grader and her friends watch this movie, like it and think, think...THINK. These guys had it all and they blew it. It really enforces the fact that cheating is not worth losing your own personal integrity and that it is grounds for dismissal at any university.
