Additionally, the kit includes a range of pads and compounds tailored to different polishing needs. From cutting and polishing to finishing, each pad and compound works seamlessly with the polisher to achieve the desired results. The included backing plates and pad cleaning brush add further convenience to the kit. Furthermore, the ergonomic design of the polisher ensures comfortable handling during extended detailing sessions. • Great for anyone! Long review and detailing instructions. *UPDATE*
Size: 9 ITEMS Style: KIT Pattern Name: Polisher
This is a great polisher/buffer for anyone. It is one of the few products where it is extremely user friendly. This polisher/buffer (everyone calls it something different) lets a weekend warrior have the ability to look like a professional. This package comes with everything you see in the picture. The polisher/buffer, a 4 pack of sale compounds and polishes (4 oz), and 3 pads. This is a complete system that gives you the ability to fix most car imperfections. But it is not a miricale worker. You have to put in the time and have the correct technique to get great results. Even then there are some things you will not be able to correct. So before you think "I don't want to buy this cause someone said it didn't work", realize that there are limitations to any paint corrections. I will talk about it again in a little bit. But first back to the review. The unit itself is built very well. It is a very sturdy and well balanced machine. "What does he mean by well balanced?" What I'm referring to is that, even on the lowest setting, you can handle this machine with one hand. The pads are hook and loop (velcro) and are 5.5". This is somewhat an odd size that puts you in a situation where you have to find them online most of the time. But to be honest is is a happy medium. Each pad has their own uses. You need to make sure you are using the right one for each situation. The compounds are from Chemical Guys based out of California. Their products are probably some of the best that I have ever used. They are very user friendly and have a great smell. Yes I said great smell. If you are going to compound or polish your car its nice to have something that has a pleasant scent. So if you have read it this far and know how to compound or polish a car that's all that I have. Those of you who don't know what to do can read on if you want. This is a small tutorial and list of products you will need in order to get great results. 1: Wash your car. This is the starting point to any body work. You should use only microfiber. *DO NOT USE TERRY CLOTHS OR HOUSEHOLD RAGS* These rags will hurt your paint and cause small scratches. 2: Clay Bar Get your favorite clay bar and clay your paint and glass. Periodically fold the clay over and knead it to get a clean/fresh side. Use a clay bar lube or quick detailer spray. Do small sections at a time and wipe off excess product when complete. 3:IPA Mix Isopropyl Alcohol and distilled water in a spray bottle (I would research to see what you are comfortable with). This will strip any wax, clay bar, or sealant that remains on the vehicle. 4: Determine the work you need to do. Many people jump into this with a all or nothing attitude. What need to do is look at all of the scratches, water spots, bird dropings, and any other imperfections. From there you need to determine what is the minimum that can be used to take out the scratches. If you have a lot of paint correction with deepnscratches you should compound. If it is just water spot with a few scratches then you need to polish. This step, though, is to determine what you need to use. 5:Compound/Polish Compound is more abrasive than Polish. With this in mind, depending on what you determined in the previous step, start with the least aggressive to get the job done. If it doesn't work to get all imperfections out then move up in the compounds (like 36 to a 38 in this kit). Once you get all the imperfections out that you can then move down to a polish and polish the entire vehicle. 6: Apply a sealant. I used Jet Seal recently. I personally like it. A sealant basically protects you paint from contaminate like water spots, dirt, and bird droppings. Jet seal also make your paint surface hydrophobic which is pretty nice. 7: Apply your favorite wax. You can use whatever wax you want. I personally like using a liquid wax. A liquid wax can be spread with a polisher with the correct pad. We are here to work smarter not harder. That's all there is to it really. Just note that not all imperfections will come out. On a neglected paint job I would expect to get out about 90% of the imperfections. Then there are some things that you can not remove with the products in this package. Deep scratches that are into the color coat or show metal will not come out with these products. Orange peel is another imperfection that you can not buff out completely. These two types of imperfections will either need to be wet sanded or the panel will have to be repainted. Do your research. Look up different techniques if you would like. But once you feel comfortable with what you know, compounding and polishing is easy. And this kit gives you nearly everything you need. *Tip* use a permenant marker to put a line on the backing paint. This will allow you to see if it is free spinning on the paint or not. **Update** I have used these 4oz bottles on 2 vehicles now and I still have product. These foam pads are great but I would invest in more if you can. These pads are great for the do it yourselfer but if you want to use these for a commercial purpose then you should get more pads. I have used my orange pad quite a bit as it is the one I use to get out most of the deep scratches. Honestly, if you were to get a better cutting pad you would be better off. The machine itself is still in great condition and I have not regreted buying this one bit. Update 06/13/21: ... well I used this kit several times and loved using it. I say "loved" because someone broke into my garage and decided they wanted to take it. I used if for 5 years and have bought different compounds and pads. It held up very well and I still highly recommend it. Chemical guys products are still by far the best products to work with and I highly recommend them. ... show more

  • Great Tool for Detailers!
Size: 9 ITEMS Style: KIT Pattern Name: Polisher
I’m pretty picky about the cleanliness of my vehicle. I think it can say a lot about a person based on how they care for their belongings, especially their vehicle. I bought this as a way to fix some paint defects on my 2020 Forester, which is starting to show some wear and tear from daily use and harsh Wisconsin winters. I wanted to see if there was a reasonably priced way to achieve the results I wanted, especially considering I haven’t got much experience using tools like this. I’m happy to report that after a test run, I’m thrilled with the results and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Chemical Guys Torq polisher. After some research into how to use the polisher I was ready to give it a go. Some common sense and a few YouTube videos will go a long way towards getting good results. I began by washing my vehicle using a foam cannon for applying soap (Mr. Pink from Chemical Guys), along with an electric pressure washer. After thoroughly washing and drying, I removed any additional paint contaminants with a clay bar treatment. Again, preparation is key to doing this right. If you leave dirt or debris on your vehicle you’re asking for trouble using this polisher. The next step will be determining which cutting compound to use. The kit I got came with 4 trial sized bottles of the V line of products. They recommend choosing the lightest abrasive possible to achieve the results you want. Since my paint was fairly new and not in the worst shape, I chose V36 as a sort of in the middle option. I paired this with the supplied orange cutting pad as recommended. Another key step is making sure you use the pad lubricant which may have come with your kit. Simply spraying 3 spritzes before each application of compound worked well for me. Chemical guys recommended 4 to 5 dime sized drops on the pad, those drops being spread out evenly across the surface you’re working on for even coverage and preventing spatter. You can use the polisher on speed 1 to evenly spread the compound at this point. Once you’ve got sufficient coverage you can proceed. Using form pressure working in an overlapping manner, work the product onto the surface at speed 5 or 6 until the compound becomes translucent. Like I mentioned earlier I chose to use some lighter duty compound and decide if I need to use a stronger product after assessing the results. Short answer, I probably could have used the stronger stuff. But, as a beginner it was a good idea to follow the recommendations from Chemical Guys. For what’s its worth, I used about a 3rd of the small bottle on this project. On to the results: I’m impressed. All of the swirls and light scratches have been removed. Some deeper scratches will require more time to work out, but from what I’ve seen so far I don’t think it’ll be an issue. The black paint on my vehicle has insane depth and clarity after my first go using the torq, and I’d gladly spend the money on it again. My only complaints so far would be the lack of instructions included. You’ll want to do some research before you get to work, mainly to avoid damaging your paint. The pads are apparently an odd size according to some other reviewers, and while that makes ordering them slightly difficult, I’m not worried. I give this one a hearty yah. ... show more
