  • Beast for convection baking and air frying; falls short for toasting; smaller than advertised
Style: Stainless Steel
I've not ever owned a toaster oven, nor an air fryer, so there was a little bit of a learning curve here for me. The short of it is that I like this appliance a lot. It won't do everything but I love that it's a lot more efficient time wise than the standard freestanding oven, and healthier than a microwave. Browned food tastes better in this too than insipid microwave cooking. I had my eye on a Wolf convection toaster oven for some time, but upwards of $650 is not really what I want to spend on something that I'm not sure will be everything I want it to be. Plus, I wanted to give an air fryer a run. Wolf doesn't have this option as far as I know. My parents have a countertop convection oven / roaster — one of those big round ones with the motor in the top which they picked up in Asia 30 years ago. Yep, it's still going strong, so I base my expectations on that machine. I can say that as far as convection baking goes, this Cheman makes the grade. Here is my experience with my experimentation so far: - Air fried chicken drumettes (2 lbs): perfectly cooked, browned on the outside, moist on the inside at 400°F for 20 minutes. - Convection baked corn dogs x3 (from frozen): 350°F for 10 minutes (package recommends 18 minutes), perfectly cooked and hot inside throughout. Originally I tried air frying these but fraculated them and it nearly burned the wooden sticks/skewers - Convection baked to reheat a full size Cinnabon bun: 300°F for 5 minutes on parchment paper and toasting rack, with a little water in the lower baking pan to prevent drying out. Oh mama! Hot gooey goodness - Air fried seasoned almonds: 400°F for 20 minutes — way too long. I saw recipes for smaller, round air fryers that recommended 10 minutes and looked at the Crunchy Spiced Chickpeas recipe in the accompanying book which recommends 35 minutes, so I tried to go somewhere in between. No bueno. The skins on the almonds were scorched and the insides were overcooked. I'll try this again at 10 minutes which will likely be perfect. - Toast, 2 slices: ironically, this was the most challenging. This was the first thing I tried and I had the crumb tray set above the bottom element slid inside the bottom shelf guides as I thought that I would want to protect the elements from any food falling. The top browned, the bottom didn't. I figured out my ignorant mistake and moved the crumb tray to below the elements. Then I forgot to turn the temperature dial all the way to 'Toast/Broil.' Just sad, dry white bread. On the third go around, I finally had the crumb tray under the element, the temperature dial set to 'Toast/Broil,' the mode dial set to 'Toast,' then turned the Toast Timer dial to between Medium and Dark. Lovely! At least to look at. The top was beautifully browned and the bottom had those coveted 'grill' marks. But it was really stiff, almost halfway to teething rusks. It took about three times as long as my trusty KitchenAid toaster too. I think because the bread is not right next to the elements and due to the size of the oven, it needs to take longer and therefore dries the toast out unnecessarily. I really like my toast crisp on the outside and tender in the middle, like a quick sear. This oven offers no tender toast. So, we have sent our microwave to my husband's office for him to replace his old one, as I have wanted to find something to replace that thing in our kitchen at home and this Chefman Air Fryer Toaster Oven is it! I can't bring myself to do away with my toaster though. My husband's consensus is the same on this oven's toasting ability. It may bear more experimentation but I think at this point we're not compromising here as we find that even the little things, like tender toast, can be a gourmet affair. Things that could be improved on: - The knobs are plasticky and feel a bit cheap - The numbers on the cook time knob and the temperature knob fall between the markings, so you have to be diligent in turning the knob right in between the marks to get the designated temperature or cook time. When I cooked my chicken for 20 minutes I tried to be careful to set the cook time properly, but also set my oven timer to see how accurate my guesstimate was. Apparently I was about a minute and a half too long. Note to self: if upgrading, get one with a digital timer and temperature gauge. For now, this is sufficiently workable - The crumb tray has to be angled in between two sets of screws in order to slide in properly and lay flat. It's a bit odd that these screws are an obstruction - The rubber feet leave (cleanable) marks all over my countertop Things not mentioned in product listing: - There is a light! It only comes on when you're cooking - Included is a wire holder / handle to pull your hot trays out without getting burned after cooking - Relatively small footprint and useable space. The description says that the interior is 15.5" x 12.2". This isn't so. I thought I'd be able to fit my Pampered Chef medium bar pan (older style with handles) in there, but no. It fits my round and square metal cake pans just fine though so they will be pulling double duty. Real dimensions? Here goes: INTERIOR: 12.5" wide x 11" deep x 7.75" tall (useable horizontal dimensions, not including the space for the rack guides and clearance from the door and back wall — you won't be able to do a 12" pizza in this as advertised without it pushing up on the door. Shoot for a square or rectangular stone or tray with no extruding handles, or a small round). It will easily fit 6 slices of square shaped toast; it's a bit of a squish for 6 slices of rectangular. Included baking tray with dimensions in photos maximizes the cooking space EXTERIOR: 15.75" wide x 13.25" deep x 14" tall (I love that the dials are placed at the top instead of the side as this saves a lot of space compared to other models Granted that this is rated at 1500 watts of power which is lower than some of the higher end ones, I find this one to be quite a beast when it comes to baking and air frying. Overall, I love the convection feature the most, and I'm really glad to have this in my kitchen and no longer need my microwave! ... show more

  • Yummy food after 2 1/2 weeks of everyday use
Style: Stainless Steel
I received this toaster oven/air fryer 2 1/2 weeks ago and have used it everyday. I have baked biscuits, cornbread and muffins using the bake setting and convection bake setting. I have toasted bread and biscuits. I baked a Mac & cheese. I have used the warming setting to keep items warm while finishing other dishes on my range. I air fried chicken tenders, chicken cordon bleu, meat balls and the most special of all, homemade Chinese egg rolls which were actually crispy and not greasy. I never though I could cook my egg rolls without deep frying in lots of oil. I am thrilled. The instructions are easy to understand. The little cook book is nice, but I am mostly going with my gut instinct. It hasn’t failed me yet. I hope this oven last a long time, but purchased the extended warranty just in case. As you can tell, I highly recommend this product. ... show more

  • Great deal, great product
Style: Stainless Steel
While researching air fryer ovens we noticed some of the top brand names had many bad reviews. Hesitant to buy one with no reviews and never heard of the brand Chefman, we took a chance. So glad we did, this oven is AMAZING! Easy to use, and everything we’ve cooked so far has tasted great. I’ve cooked wings, fries, toast and a grilled cheese sandwich so far and can’t wait to cook more! ... show more
