The United States Postal Service is proud to commemorate the centennial of Charles M. Schulz's birth with the release of ten new 'Forever' stamps. These stamps honor the legacy of Schulz's 'Peanuts' comic strip, an iconic part of American culture for over fifty years. Schulz's work, which he both wrote and illustrated, culminated in a remarkable 18,000 strips, concluding poignantly the day after his passing. The stamp series captures the enduring spirit of the 'Peanuts' characters, each embodying Schulz's profound creativity and humanity, while reflecting on universal experiences of hardship with humor and grace. The collection is elegantly presented around a 1987 photograph of Schulz, with the stamps meticulously designed by art director Greg Breeding, utilizing Schulz's original artwork complemented by Douglas Kirkland's photography. Further honoring Schulz's impact, Santa Rosa, where he resided and worked from 1969 until his death, is home to the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center. The local airport bears his name, and the city celebrates his contributions with bronze 'Peanuts' sculptures in prominent locations, including the airport and the historic Railroad Square downtown.
