  • Reliable mineral sunscreen with strong protection and gentle ingredients
Style: Face
I picked up the CeraVe 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 because I wanted a sunscreen with strong sun protection that also uses mineral-based active ingredients, and overall it’s been a solid option. The biggest benefit is the SPF 50 broad-spectrum protection, which gives good coverage for daily use, especially during extended sun exposure. Since it’s a 100% mineral sunscreen, it uses zinc oxide and titanium dioxide rather than chemical filters, which is a major plus if you have sensitive skin or prefer mineral formulas. The quality of the formula feels good overall. Like many mineral sunscreens, it is a bit thicker than chemical alternatives, but it spreads reasonably well once applied carefully. It also includes CeraVe’s signature ceramides, which help support skin moisture and barrier protection. In terms of skin comfort, it feels gentle and non-irritating. It worked well on sensitive areas without causing burning or discomfort. One thing to note is that, like many mineral sunscreens, there can be a slight white cast, especially if you apply a heavier layer or have a darker skin tone. However, that’s fairly typical for this category. The packaging is easy to use, and the product feels durable enough for regular travel or daily carry. Pros: * Strong SPF 50 broad-spectrum protection * 100% mineral formula * Good option for sensitive skin * Contains ceramides for added skin support * Trusted skincare brand Cons: * Can leave a white cast * Slightly thicker texture than chemical sunscreens * Requires careful blending Overall: This is a solid mineral sunscreen if you want dependable sun protection with skin-friendly ingredients. It may take a little more effort to apply than lighter sunscreens, but the protection, formula quality, and gentle ingredients make it a worthwhile choice. ... show more

  • Only mineral sunscreen to not dry me out!
Style: Face
First mineral sunscreen that doesnt dry me out! Skin feels hydrated all day and doesnt feel like it compromises my other products. Other mineral sunscreens seem to always absorb all the moisture in my skin, despite using a ton of hydrating products underneath. This is fantastic for my rosacea prone skin. Only downside is the slight smell for the first hour or so after applying. Kinda smells like gasoline, but that's from the zinc. It does go away at least. This does also leave a white cast, which I am okay with since I am a red head with skin the color of paper and it kinda just looks like a bb cream on me. But I could see that being an issue for anyone who is blessed with the ability to tan/deeper skintones. ... show more

  • Great physical protection for sensitive eyes, but expect a noticeable white cast
Style: Face
I spend a good chunk of my day outside walking my dog, so I go through a lot of SPF. While I love lightweight chemical sunscreens, they sometimes sting my eyes when I sweat, so I picked up this CeraVe 100% Mineral Sunscreen for days when I need a heavy-duty physical block. Here is how it performs in the real world: The Protection: With Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide at SPF 50, the actual sun protection is bulletproof. I haven't gotten any color on my face even after spending hours out in direct sunlight. It also doesn't irritate my skin or sting my eyes at all. The Texture: This is a very thick cream. Unlike watery lotions, you have to be intentional about applying this in thin layers, otherwise it can feel heavy and slightly greasy sitting on top of your skin. The White Cast: This is the main reason for four stars instead of five. Because it is a 100% mineral formula, it leaves a very distinct white cast. You have to spend a solid minute thoroughly massaging it into your face to sheer it out, and even then, it can leave a pale, chalky finish, especially if you have a deeper skin tone. Verdict: If you have sensitive skin or eyes and specifically need a physical mineral block, this is a highly effective, affordable option. Just be prepared to spend a little extra time rubbing it in front of the mirror before you head outside!" A quick tip for posting: A photo showing a streak of the cream on your cheek right before you rub it in, or a side-by-side of your hand with and without the sunscreen rubbed in, will give other shoppers a very realistic look at the white cast. ... show more

  • This is an embarrassing product...
Style: Face
I like the rest of Cerave's line up, I use a ton of their other products. Their Skin Renewing Night Cream is probably one of the best moisturizers on the market at this moment and can go toe to toe with some of the big expensive brands you'd find at Sephora. I use their Diabetics Dry Skin Cream all the time and it's positively divine, so much so that I haven't bothered to test out other brands. It's just that good. This? This thing? I genuinely can't believe this is amongst their other products. I read a couple of reviews saying it leaves a white cast and I, looking for a way to make my fair medium skin tone lean more towards the fair end thought "hey, maybe it will lend me just enough to lighten me up a hair." No. I only used a tiny dab, not even the full amount you're SUPPOSED to use on your face and not only did it leave me with a white cast but with a blue-ish grey-ish cast that genuinely made me look like I had died about 6 hours ago. UNBELIEVABLY bad cast. And I'm a white person! If that leaves a cast that intense on me, I can't even imagine what kind of cast it would leave on someone darker than me! I get it, this is probably purely a physical sunscreen, its probably all zinc or mineral or something like that in there and the point is that is creates a literal physical barrier so that the uv light can't penetrate through or it bounces off. You can't have a physical barrier without it existing, that's literally impossible. HOWEVER. The fact that it's THAT bad of a blue grey cast??? What are we doing here????? ... show more

  • Great mineral sunscreen
Style: Face
Some reviews bemoan the fact that it turns your skin white. And yes, I cannot disagree with them on that. However... It's a *mineral* based sunscreen. Mineral sunscreens work by providing a *physical* barrier. Meaning, there essentially *must* be a thick enough physical coating on your skin to prevent burn/UV. Chemical based works differently, and that's why you don't get a thick coating with those. So it's unfair to compare the two. Furthermore, this is an SPF 50, so it's going to be thicker -- *must* be thicker -- than lower SPF. I've used lower SPF minerals before and those are not as thick. This is a great sunscreen for me and it works fine for me because I'm a pretty pale kid who easily burns. So the white coating isn't as obvious on my skin. That's not true for everyone, however, so do what works best for you. For those blessed with darker skin, this white mineral coating probably does look kinda bad, so I don't blame y'all for hating that. Unfortunately, I don't see another way around that when you get a high SPF mineral sunscreen. Ultimately, get whatever sunscreen works best for you. But understand that this product does exactly what it's supposed to do and it really can't be better than it is. So, full marks from me. Again, I burn easily, so I reapply frequently. As long as I do that, I have never gotten burned while using this sunscreen. It's great and works really well. ... show more

  • Too heavy for acne-prone skin
Style: Face
I really wanted to like this sunscreen because I usually love CeraVe products, but this one did not work well for my skin. The texture is very thick, heavy, and leaves a strong white cast on the face. It also made my pores feel clogged and I started getting more breakouts after using it. It may work better for very dry skin, but for oily or acne-prone skin it felt too greasy and uncomfortable. The sun protection is good, but the formula was not for me. ... show more

  • Awesome sunscreen
Style: Face
I’ve been using the CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 for more than 2 years, and I’m really impressed. I have sensitive, combination skin and struggle to find sunscreens that don’t break me out or cause irritation. Its lightweight and creamy, and although it does leave a slight white cast at first, it blends in well after a few minutes especially if I apply it over moisturizer. I appreciate that it's fragrance-free and packed with ceramides and niacinamide, which help keep my skin feeling calm and hydrated. It wears nicely under makeup and doesn’t make me greasy throughout the day. I also love that it’s a 100% mineral sunscreen, which feels gentler on my skin compared to chemical options. ... show more

  • Works but messy; do not recommend
Style: Body
This SPF works great at keeping you from getting burnt but I found it to be VERY messy. I used it over a few days while in a visit to San Diego where we had several pool days and beach days. This stuff definitely has the white look on your skin when applied. I’m pale so it wasn’t too terribly annoying for me but it definitely doesn’t rub in all the way and you’ll have a white ish look where it’s been applied. I found that I didn’t have to reapply often and it held up to some dips in the pool and ocean. Here’s what I didn’t like about it. It is very thick and doesn’t apply easily. It rubs off onto other services VERY easily and we had to spend hours cleaning white residue from the car seats, arm rests, grab bars, cup holders, door handles, doors and anywhere else we might have bumped while on our way home (that’s even after covering the seats in sheets and towels as a precaution as well as showering off at the beach). Transfer ease aside, this stuff also managed to somehow refuse to wash off from the skin. Anyone who used this had to take two showers and aggressively scrub this stuff off their skin (which is the last thing you want to do after a few days in the sun). I tried with a regular washcloth and soap but still found it on my skin and ended up showering again with a stiff loofah to get it all off. Other family members mentioned the same issue. I will not be purchasing again. ... show more
