Description

The CGEM II 1100 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope features Celestron’s premium StarBright XLT coated optics and the newly redesigned CGEM II computerized equatorial mount. With the optical tube assembly of the CGEM II 1100 weighing only 27.5 lbs., this telescope is still portable enough to be taken to dark skies, and it has 89% more light gathering power than an 8" telescope and more than 40% more than the 9.25". This telescope is especially at home as a solid platform for long exposure photography with optional CCD cameras or photographic equipment; it is a serious scientific research tool that comes with Celestron's premium StarBright XLT coatings. A fresh update to the venerable CGEM mount, the CGEM II has a fresh, attractive, bold appearance and is capable of carrying Celestron’s higher-end SCT optical tubes (up to 11") securely and vibration free, which is ideal for both imaging and visual observing. Capable of holding 40 lbs. of payload and slewing at 5° per second, you will be able to instantly point to any of the celestial objects in the database. ERGONOMIC DESIGN CGEM II was designed to be ergonomically friendly with large Altitude and Azimuth adjustment knobs for quick and easy polar alignment adjustment. The internal RA and DEC motor wiring provides a clean look and an easy and trouble free set up. INNOVATION The CGEM II series features Celestron’s innovative Polar alignment procedure called All-Star. All-Star allows users to choose any bright star, while the software calculates and assists with polar alignment. Another great feature of the CGEM II sure to please astroimagers, is the Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PEC) which will allow users to train out the worm gears periodic errors, while the mount retains the PEC recordings. PERFORMANCE For objects near the Meridian (imaginary line passing from North to South), the CGEM II will track well past the Meridian for uninterrupted imaging through the most ideal part of the sky. The CGEM II mount has a robust database with over 40,000 objects, 100 user defined programmable objects and enhanced information on over 200 objects. Celestron's CGEM II mount is the perfect fit between the Advanced Series and CGE Series. Offering the portability of the Advanced Series and the precision of the CGE.

  • Most Awesome !!!!!
Most awesome telescope I've ever had. Have wanted one of these for years. Was worth the patience.

  • Amateurs Beware
This might sound lame given the price, but people who are new to astronomy might be better off not starting with this. We had bought are son a few telescopes before, but all were really bad, to put it bluntly. We thought that by splurging for this, we’d all be able to enjoy seeing stars, the moon in detail, etc. I consider myself reasonably tech savvy, and after buying the GPS unit for this, I can’t figure it out to save my life. Attempted to set GPS alignment with the closest major city in the unit’s database (15 mins away) and set alignment for the moon. The telescope aimed about 90 degrees off it. After setting alignment manually, we tried searching for various stars (none of which we know the names of) and it repeatedly attempted to aim at the ground. I don’t doubt that it works properly, I just think it’s probably intended for people who are already well versed in the field. Here’s hoping we figure it out - haven’t given up yet, but so far, it’s been a frustrating process to say the least. Even when aimed at the moon very clearly, all we see is a vague bright spot in the eyepiece. Focus knob doesn’t help regardless of which way it’s adjusted. ... show more

  • Amazing Telescope
This is an amazing instrument. It breaks down into small pieces that a fit, single person can carry and setup in his or her backyard. Deep sky objects are bright, which lessens the need for averted vision to view many Messier and Herschel objects. With an OIII filter, nebula are stunning. Planets are sharp. Once the scope is aligned, it flawlessly locates thousands of objects in the sky. It can even find objects that are not in its database using celestial coordinates. It is impressive just watching it slew to different sky locations. I recommend purchasing a focal reducer and a polar alignment scope, but these are not required. Be careful with the mount. The azimuth knobs are large, but do not overtightening them because the threads can strip. Turn them carefully. Realize the mount is made of a softer metal to make it lighter. The screws in the mount can work themselves loose over time as the telescope is attached using the dovetail, so it is best to check them periodically. However; these are minor issues that do not detract from the enjoyment of the product. I did not regret me purchase. ... show more
