  • Love it, but a few things
I bought this a few days ago, and, I have to say, and it’s a great book! But there are a few things you should know: On page 57, a green baby frog (probably Drake) tells Flippy that Naomi is making him draw “full-frontal nudity” because he is drawing a werewolf without clothes. That part made me think that Drake might have been looking at inappropriate pictures/websites at that time. On page 75, I found out that the baby frogs wanted Naomi’s comic to be published just to get an ice cream machine. When the publisher lady rejects the comic(The Under Werewolves), they fall to pieces. On page 199, when Melvin tells Poppy that her comic( Skelopup and the Happy Game) was also rejected, Melvin tells her to change it by making the characters normal. Poppy doesn’t want to be normal, and on the next page she thinks she’s disturbing and quits the club. The book only has 5 comics, and there is no haiku-photo comic by Summer and Starla. I also finished this in one sitting, but I hope you found this helpful! ... show more

  • Autistic Nephew and Dying Child Love This Book
My nephew has severe autism and this series and the Dog Man series are the only books he responds to and will talk about with others. I have a close friend who has an 8 year old son dying from a rare form of cancer. These are the only books that make him laugh and temporarily take away the pain of a bone marrow transplant and other treatments. In regards to the ridiculous outrage about the "nudity" in these books, my response is from Genesis 3:11. And He said, "Who told you that you were naked?" What happened in Genesis 3 helps us understand how valuable the condition of innocence really was. Please don't take away these books from your children. The people who are taking away these books from their children are misinterpreting the panel about nudity and other issues. Dav Pilkey never makes any statement about his views - not even in a sly way. He is merely showing what we are all facing today. A perfect opportunity to discuss these issues with children. They are exposed to these things daily even if you want to remain blind by this fact. Our own efforts to cover ourselves can't redeem or save us from our own guilt and shame. Dav Pilkey's work has much depth and children connect to the compassion in his work. ... show more
