  • Straps are a little finicky, but they work well
I got this for my daughter-in-law, and the following is her review: I have used these several times, and for the most part, I like them. I am not crazy about the ratchet bindings. My husband has the next step up from these with the pull strap bindings, which are much easier to put on and take off, and I am jealous of that feature, but these work fine. It is a little tricky to get the bindings adjusted just right- if they are too tight, it hurts my foot, and if they are too loose, they fall off- it is a fine line. Maybe I need different boots, but once I get them adjusted to where they are comfortable, they work great. I wish I had gotten a smaller size since we usually snowshoe on trails that are slightly packed down. I was right on the border for the weight limit, so I went with the bigger ones just in case, but they are quite large, and I think the smaller size would have worked just fine. If you are on the edge for the weight and plan on mostly using trails that are somewhat packed down, then I would suggest going with the smaller size. I have the 25" and wear size 9 1/2 ladies, and these fit my boots just fine. These keep me up in deep snow, and the claws are excellent for going up and down inclines. I love that they come with a carrying bag which seems well made and is well sized. Overall they work great, and we have had a lot of fun being able to go on winter hikes. ... show more

  • Well made but small for the weight rating.
I bought two brands, both 25 inches long. Both similar construction and weight. This brand is rated for more weight but has a smaller surface area, clearly a sales pitch. The snow has to be pretty firm for a 160 lb person on these shoes.

  • Nice construction with tight strap design, no heel lifts
These snowshoes have a nice, sturdy design. They use the classic snowshoe setup with an outer tubular structure from which the foot bindings are attached. There are two ratcheting straps over each foot along with a heel strap. The ratcheting straps are very easy to use and allow you to get the main straps nice and tight. The straps have molded indents on them and should stay tight, unlike some other snowshoes I’ve tried that have simple flat straps that tend to slip out while in use. When the main straps are released you can separate the left and right sides and then fold the straps flat and forward. This allows you to make the snowshoes as flat as possible so both of them will fit inside the included slim storage bag. The only feature missing from these snowshoes are flip-up heel lifts. Without this the snowshoes aren’t going to be the greatest for use in hilly terrain, but if you mainly plan to use them in flat areas then you won’t miss the lifts. ... show more

  • Decent entry level snow shoes for a great price
The Expedition Light Weight Aluminum Snowshoes Explorer Plus Snow Shoes are reasonably light weigh with a convincing design and good manufacturing quality. The surface area is adequate for the weight ratings and works well in powder as well as on crusted trails. The binding is simple, but works. The crampons are nice, big and provide good traction. I am not totally convinced of the longevity of the simple hinge design - but it works well. Not a set of snowshoes that I would pick for a multi day trip into the back you try. But given the very reasonable price, the would be perfect for a beginner who wants to get a first experience of snowshoeing in relative easy terrain ... show more

  • Good snow shoes for the price
I’ve been wanting to try snowshoeing, but haven’t wanted to invest a few hundred dollars in a set if I didn’t enjoy it. These Explore Plus snow shoes are an excellent value the quality is good at a responsible price. They were easy to figure out how to get into even for a beginner. I’m looking forward to next winter, so I can use these more than the one time I got to enjoy them this year. Overall, if you’re looking for a good set of snow shoes give these a try. ... show more
