  • Excellent tutorial and overview.
This Dummies book is well organized and goes to the level of detail I needed as a semi-novice. Particularly helpful was the comprehensive coverage and explanations of the new auto focus capability of the Mark III. Beyond the simple mechanics setting individual functions the author offers good suggestions and rationale for custom user settings. Highly recommended. BJR ... show more

  • This is a very helpful book. I love it.
I bought this book before I bought my Canon 5d Mark III. I really wanted the 5D but was a little bit intimidated by the awesomeness of it. After looking over this book I knew that I could understand and use the 5D. I ordered the 5D and began to start learning about this amazing camera. Mr. Cordell wrote this book in a way that anyone could understand it and use the 5D. The book is written in such a way that you can pick out certain chapters and learn them or you can start at the beginning and learn as you go. I cannot believe how much this book has helped me. Great homework book to go along with the Canon 5D. ... show more

  • A great resource for the 5Diii owner
I'm a huge fan of the Dummies books especially as a supplement to the OEM manual. I wisely chose to buy one for my first DSLR and it was great source to refer to as I grew into my camera and was able to understand its more advanced features. If you want simple explanations, tips and an easy on the eyes layout, this book meets those needs. I bought another book that was highly recommended in addition to this one for the 5Diii and I'd have to say that although this book comes in a close second, it is definitely adequate if you only wanted one 5Diii reference. The 5Diii for Dummies is a great book for newer or less experienced photographers and has plenty of use for the more experienced. If you're less experienced plan on having your camera next to you as you read this book. That's the best way to learn how to navigate the many menu settings and operations of this or any camera. Don't concern yourself with memorizing and understanding everything at first read. The 5Diii is a pro level DSLR and you'll have to re-read and refer back to this book until some of the more intricate features sink in. Some features may be out of your interest or comprehension for now but as you grow you'll find yourself referring back to this book for reference. ... show more

  • Essential Reading for the Canon 5D [or any Canon] user
Canon DSLRs are amazing cameras, but many people have no real idea how to operate them, or what each of the many menu and shooting styles mean. Whats Program vs Manual? Whats a RAW Image? Whats Depth of Field? You get quick simple to the point answers with the "Dummies" series, and this book is no exception. Good photographers can tweak photos to make them look good in Photoshop. Realy Good photographers can do much of the tweaking in the camera. If your shots are too dark, adjust them in the camera, not in PhotoShop. Leanr how to tweak your camera settings. Do I want Auto Lighting Optimzer? This answers the question. I know many photogs who own $4,000.00 camera who are still shooting in Program and asking me why their photos stink. I ask what the manual says. Without fail, they have not read the manual. If you dont at least know how to under and overexpose to compesate for different light, perhaps you shoudl become a plumber. Great book to learn about the 5D and just about any Canon, as many of the parameters here are on just about every Canon DSLR. ... show more

  • Not organized well
Clear writing, but not organized in a readable manner. Busch's latest book on this camera is much better. The organization makes it harder to use in it's Kindle form. Maybe the hard copy would be easier to skip around in. Not bad, just not good.

  • The best book I found for my new camera!
I read at least two other books on the 5D Mark 11. Neither book "flowed" very well. I kept thinking I had to reset things that had already been set. This book was fantastic! It flowed sequentially, explained topics a dummy could understand....and gave me the 'big' picture of the camera that fit nicely with the detailed areas. Would ABSOLUTELY recommend this book for any newcomer to this camera, its new functionalities AND the autofocus system! ... show more

  • Money well spent.
A wonderful but very involved camera needs a manual like this just to get started. I enjoyed it very much and feel like it was money well spent. I was very satisfied with the product.

  • Very informative
It has a lot of information that helps with the camera. There was still confusing parts that I had to google to figure out how to use certain parts of the camera
