  • It's a beautiful desk but challenging to assemble.
Style: L Shaped Desk
This is a very beautiful desk; however the assembly was quite challenging. There are 36 steps! I’ve assembled many furniture pieces over the years but this desk was by far the most challenging. I originally purchased the expert assembly option (based on other reviews) but later cancelled it. I had to wait for a replacement part from Bush and the assembly appointments were just too far out (1-2 weeks). So here we go... When the desk was delivered, I first checked each piece to ensure there was no damage. The largest piece had some damage in a very visible location. I called Bush to request a replacement. It was received a week later. While waiting for the replacement, I read the instructions cover to cover several times and made some notes. Bush does a good job of labeling each piece of the desk. All the hardware comes in its own little individual bags that are also clearly labeled. The instruction book has pictures only. There are 1 or 2 steps that actually have text. The desk uses the cam and bolt system, and also screws and nails. The drawer is the first section you assemble and it can be a little tricky. Especially since the pre-drilled holes are very tight. You have to really use some muscle to get the screws in. My palm was swollen from pushing the cam bolts and screws in so hard with the screwdriver. I would not recommend a power drill as you could ruin the “wood.” It took me approximately five hours over two days to assemble. Although, some steps suggest an assistant is required, I was able to assemble it by myself (female, 5’3, 125lbs). I had a little help to move the desk into its final place. Other than that, I just took my time. In the end, the desk turned out beautifully. I've worked from home for several years now and this piece makes "going to work" each day a lot nicer. If you decide to purchase this one, I recommend taking your time, reading, and then re-reading the instruction booklet cover to cover before you begin. Don't rush through it. You can do it! Pros: 1. Great labeling system: Each furniture piece and hardware was clearly labeled. 2. Workmanship: Beautiful and sturdy. I love the molding at the top and bottom. There’s a little cubby area right above the small drawer that's nice for daily use items. It helps to keep the top of the desk clutter free. 3. Function: Lots of leg room. I have a foot stool under the desk for comfort (purchased on AMZ). 4. Size: large enough for multiple monitors, eyeglass case (purchased on AMZ), cell phone stand (purchased on AMZ) and other office items. 5. Good customer service. You can call to request replacement/missing parts or call for help with assembly. 6. Nice smell of wood. Cons: 1. Assembly: There are 36 steps to this assembly which can be overwhelming and very time consuming. 2. Workmanship: the pre-drilled holes are very tight. It’s challenging to get the screws in which adds to the assembly time. 3. Once all pieces are in place, the desk is very heavy and takes two people to move it. I've searched for a desk for a long time, and this one meets my needs. I'm glad I made the purchase and took the time to assemble it myself. It makes me appreciate the piece that much better because I did it myself. ... show more

  • Worth the effort
Style: Home Office Desk
I'm not particularly handy so the challenge that this assembly presented scared me. But I learned when I ran into some questions, that Bush Industries has a terrific help desk and they could walk me through anything. When I used a wrong size dowel and cut the dowel to better fit, they quickly sent me some additional dowels. When I accidently dropped a rather large piece that damaged the surface of the piece, they just sent me another. I'm now just waiting on a slide that I put in wrong and bent the plastic on the slide. All provided quickly and free. highly recommend them. ... show more

  • Great desk for the money
Style: Home Office Desk
I was pleasantly surprised by the finish quality of this desk. While it is (was) roughly the same price of the least expensive desks from Office Depot or Staples, the wood texture is not the press on picture of wood, or at least it doesn't feel like it. The construction is solid, and it looks great, especially for the price. I do recommend this product. ... show more

  • Broken Pieces and Missing Part?
Style: Home Office Desk
I bought this about a month and 1/2 ago and pretty quickly put together the base part of the desk, no problem, I love putting furniture together and have made it through many IKEA assemblies :) I had to take a break from putting this together b/c some unexpected things came up but was not worried about it b/c everything went so smoothly with the base, but I was WRONG! When I started putting together the drawers, I just ran into problem after problem that at first I thought "No big deal, it was a cheap desk, just grab a little super glue and carry on!" but it just got impossible to put together and I was feeling so embarrassed b/c I bought this for my dad and it was going to end up a mess. The first problem was one of the plastic pieces was already broken, so I just super glued it back together and moved on, I think the fourth picture shows the plastic piece that was broken, I attached it to the drawer piece per the instructions so it is hard to see, but if you look closely you can see the super glue holding it together around one of the screws. Then, I went to put the same type of plastic piece on the same board just on the other side and the screw completely tore up the "wood" you can see the plastic piece in the 1st - 3rd pictures with the screw attached and the wood that was eaten away and on the 5th picture, you can see the drawer piece with the wood eaten away. I was using a hand held screw driver so I was not trying to drill it in or anything like that and had no problems like this anywhere else on the project so I was surprised and not really sure how I would "band aid" this problem but moved on. Then I got to the next drawer piece and the corner was cracked and is ready to fall off, you can see the crack in the 6th picture. Again, I was not sure how to "band aid' this but thought the whole project was still doable so I moved on but this last part stopped me b/c it is impossible to get the piece in the picture into the position in the instructions. I feel really stupid b/c I am assuming user error, but I don't get it, the "hook" inside the metal piece can NOT be facing the direction shown in the instructions....I am just assuming I am missing a piece or maybe go two of the same pieces when one should have been facing the opposite way? At this point I am not sure what to do...I sent an email to customer service but I will be pleasantly shocked if they do anything. I am so disappointed, now I have unfinished shelves in my dad's bedroom for him to pile stuff on I guess??? If you can see what I am doing wrong in the last two pictures, please point it out! ... show more

  • Nice Desk... if it weren't broken
Style: Home Office Desk
The box did not appear damaged in any way, but two of the pieces were cracked. One of them was the actual desktop. If it weren't cracked it would have been a nice desk. There's a card in the box stating to call the manufacturer to resolve any issues. I tried doing that, but the machine said I was 10th in line. No thank you. Called Amazon for a refund and for UPS to pick up of the product. Looks like UPS damaged it en-route. ... show more
