The instructions were horrible. I had to do some modifications to the hutch to keep it from falling apart. I wasn’t really looking for anything fancy and the modifications were not a big deal to me, since I was only using it for my radio desk. it works really good for being a amateur radio desk. Plenty of spots to put multiple radios. I’m sure it will work really good for someone else also but just be ready to have 2 to 3 people to put this thing together we were working on it for more than four hours, since the instructions were horrible, this is not my first desk to put together. ... show more

I always wanted an L-desk with a hutch, but never new exactly what kind until I found this. The instructions are a bit lack-luster. For example, it has you put the back panels on last which will be hard to do if you can't move the desk much and/or have less space, but that's a minor gripe. The only real complaint is that if you do not use a mouse pad, you WILL scrape the black "finish" off. It happened in less than a week. I was lazy about putting my mouse pad down and I regret that, but it's covered so it's no biggue. ... show more

I purchased the package with the bookcase and the lateral file. See my reviews for those individual pieces. The desk and hutch came very well packaged. While the outer cardboard box had the usual expected dings and tears from shipping, inside the box the desk is encased in thick styrofoam and each piece is separated by either thinner styrofoam or wrap. The hardware and directions are easy to find. Each piece of hardware is packaged in individual bags with the part number clearly marked on the bag. It was so easy to lay out the parts and grab what I needed. Yes, you should put aside several hours to put it together. I put most of it together myself, but I needed help at a couple of points. Make sure you have someone nearby to help. But it was easy to put together, and everything fit just like it's supposed to. Any issues I encountered were self-induced. A few tips. The backing to the hutch is put on with tiny long screws. Just nail those in. Look ahead a few steps as you proceed. You may decide to do things in a different order depending on your preferences. I glued the wood dowels for sturdiness but in retrospect and looking at other reviews, that may not have been a good idea if I ever want to move it, or worse, try to get it up the basement stairs. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. The desk and hutch look beautiful when assembled! The glass fronts are a nice touch that you don't usually see in desks at this price point. The little cubbies in the hutch are useful for storing stationery. The USB hub is great since both desktop and laptop computers are sorely lacking in extra USB ports. There are a few dings that keep this from a five-star review. While the file drawer has nice bearing slides, the drawer has a simple wheel track that gives it a cheap feel and doesn't always glide smoothly. The charging shelf is really cool, but the insert isn't attached to the desk so it slides out when you are using it, but it should be removable to make it easier to reach into the cabinet to pull the USB cords through. I will probably add velcro attachments to keep it in place and still be able to remove it. Finally, the glass front cabinet below the charging station is kind of useless as it is. If you have a huge CPU I suppose that it's useful, but my small CPU doesn't take up much desktop and it's more convenient on top. So I may install a shelf in the cabinet. One more tip. This is composite wood with a woodgrain paper cover. Pretty standard stuff at this price. If you intend to use the desk alot, get inexpensive desk pads to protect the wood. You should do that with solid wood too, so this is not really a negative. Use a coaster for your coffee. Just common sense. The surface survived assembly perfectly so I expect that this desk will look great for years to come. ... show more

    • Three Huge boxes; each too heavy to lift. Imagine my surprise!

Two huge instruction manuals; one for the desk and one for the hutch. Lots of preliminary work installing hardware before actual construction. It took two people four hours one day and the same two people 5 hours the second day. One major problem was that the labeling on the parts hardware packages was not always accurate so we used the wrong screws and later had to go back and exchange hardware. also some of the boards were not labeled at all and we ad to go by the drawing to identify the part. One major issue was the Styrofoam packing. it had been rubbed into near dust and when the box was opened it clung to everything and everybody. This was the biggest part of the cleanup. The final product was a stunning addition to my den/office/guestroom and was worth all the issues, I guess. I remain amazed that all the pre-drilled holes and all the hardware went together for a near perfect fit and finish. ... show more

The desk is exactly as pictured and what I expected. I'm giving it a 4 star because there were some holes that didn't line up and a few small damaged areas. I read reviews before purchasing so I expected the assembly time to be long. But realistically that is to be expected - anyone buying this should expect a lot of pieces because well, there's no other way around manufacturing a desk with these characteristics. However I almost didn't receive the desk in time to start my new job because the first desk became "lost" (it ships in three boxes, only one showed up) but amazon had another sent right away and it got here just in time. I did see in some reviews that the desk can become bowed over time - but I dont think that is because of the material the desk is made out of. I noticed as soon as it was put together the hutch had a bowed appearance (see photos) and I think its because of the way its screwed together - its too tight therefore pulling the pieces together too much. The manufacturer needs to change the length of the pieces that connect together on the hutch. But I'm not an engineer, just my 2 cents. I saw the boards when they came out of the box and they were all perfectly straight. The two doors with the glass also didn't quite line up with the space its covering - My husband did his best to make it look decent. All in all I think for the price it is a good desk, just be aware that it may not be perfect and you'll need 3+ hours to put together. Space wise I have plenty of space working full time remotely with a monitor and laptop on a laptop stand. ... show more
