Description

Your teen doesn't need to become more confident. They need to uncover the confidence that's already there. You already have the key to unlocking your real personality and fearlessly creating an authentic life free of labels and comparisons. You just haven't been shown how to use it yet. Too often, we let other people define who we're supposed to be. You try to live up to an ideal. To be like the teen you think is smarter, better-looking, or more popular than you. When you spend your life trying to become someone else, it's easy to lose sight of who you really are. That's when self-doubt begins to grow. You start worrying that if people see the real you, they won't like what they find. Over time, that can chip away at your confidence, your sense of worth, and the belief that you deserve something better. That's a lonely place to be. But it doesn't have to stay that way. Whether you're a nerd or a jock, an overachiever or an underachiever, a loner or an outcast, those labels are only tiny pieces of who you are. They are not your identity. This book isn't about teaching teens to become someone new. It's about helping them uncover the confidence, strengths, and individuality that have been there all along. Through relatable stories, memorable examples, and simple mindset shifts, they'll learn how to stop comparing themselves to others and start building a life that's true to who they are. Inside this book, you'll discover:5 simple steps to uncover your unique strengths and embrace the person you were created to beHow to let go of negative beliefs and rebuild genuine self-confidence4 ways to escape the comparison trap and start living authenticallyHow to become the "ruler of your kingdom" by choosing who influences your lifeWhat The Three Musketeers can teach you about friendship, loyalty, and confidence6 effective ways to stand up to bullies with confidenceThe inspiring stories of 7 well- known people who succeeded because they embraced what made them differentThe powerful "1 in 60 Rule" that will forever change the way you think about failureHow Santiago's journey in The Alchemist can help you discover your own purposeHow to overcome body shaming and appreciate the person you already are ...and much more. Excellent book for young adults or for anyone who works with teens or is a parent of teens!
Format: Paperback
As a former teacher of middle and high school students and a parent who well remembers the anxiety and challenges that my daughter faced during her teen years, I found this book extremely informative and full of practical exercises to help teens better cope with the insecurities that are so plentiful in today’s society. Social media, peer pressure, physical changes and other external forces can all contribute in making a young adult doubt his or her own self-worth. In cases where these feelings lean toward the extreme the individual may very well resort to bullying others in order to make himself feel better and while a little teasing may be fine among friends, it is unfortunate that many cases of bullying result in not only verbal abuse, but on occasion physical abuse as well. I believe that this is particularly true in today’s society where it seems to be okay or even encouraged to mock or attack entire groups of people due to their religion, color, or sexual orientation. As far as the person who is the victim is concerned, even verbal abuse can cause a sensitive individual to resort to self-harm such as suicide, something that is a little too common among today’s youth. In this text the author proposes a variety of tools and techniques that can be utilized in order for young teens to cope. First and foremost, teens are encouraged to do a somewhat intense self-study of themselves as individuals—their likes, dislikes and passions. It appears that the author’s premise, and one which I agree with totally, is that in order to manage external challenges it is imperative to first understand yourself. I also found the topic on positive thinking and “pattern intercepts’ to be not only useful for teens but basically anyone who may be missing out on all of the good things life has to offer because of an attitude of negativity. I am now convinced that we do have the power to reverse this! I would highly recommend this book not only to young adults but also parents, teachers, school psychologists and others who are responsible for the education as well as the mental well-being of the young adults that they work with on a day-to-day basis. Excellent read for teens and parents alike!
Format: Kindle
I read the book on Kindle. After I read it, I had my 13 & 14 year old teenagers read it. Then we talked about it. They loved the direct and open approach to writing; along with the informative content. They felt the book gave them insight into how they can reflect on their teenage years and make it better for themselves. The author is concise; the writing intelligent. The information was just what my teens (and I) needed to know to survive this crazy world our teens are now living in. Great book. Highly recommend as a read for parents & teens! I plan on following the author’s lead, and taking one chapter at a time and focusing in on that w/ my kiddo’s each week, since they do not need to add more to their already overflowing workload. That’s what’s also nice about this book. It isn’t a workbook. It is written as a guide, 9 chapters in total ~ which can easily convert to one chapter a week for my teens! Thanks to the author for his insight, knowledge and experience. ... show more

A Confidence Boost Every Young Person Needs

This book is an absolute gem. As a guy who spent way too long trying to fit into labels and comparisons, I found this read both refreshing and empowering. It’s packed with real talk, practical advice, and uplifting messages that help you break free from the trap of trying to be someone you’re not. The steps to embracing your true self are clear and motivating, and I appreciated how it speaks to readers of all kinds. Whether you're feeling lost or just need a boost, this book is a powerful reminder that who you are is already enough. ... show more

Help For Self Esteem Issues We All Can Use
Format: Kindle
In raising my 17 year old granddaugter, there are many issues she is going through. This book gives good examples to work through self-esteem issues, bullying and finding your passions in life. It also talks about training your mind to choose to reframe the negative self-talk and focus on seeing situations in a different light. It has personal teen experiences of the author that a teen can relate to. I need this book years ago as a teen but it is also a good read for adults still struggling with these issues. It's never too late to discover who you are and how to make life more positive. Some of the wording seemed like it would be a little "old-timey" to teens and that's why I gave it 4 stars. But I highly recommend this book for your teen who is going through finding out who they are and dealing with life's problems. ... show more

Authentic and relevant
Format: Kindle
Often books aimed at teens are out-of-touch or corny. This one is not that kind of book. Building Unstoppable Self-Confidence is a wonderful mixture of authentic anecdotes, relevant advice for teens navigating today's world, and EASY-to-use self-help sections that give teens (or anyone reading) a step-by-step roadmap to creating more self-confidence. I really enjoyed the way concepts were explained. They weren't dumbed down but were put into a concise perspective that teens and adults could easily understand and relate to. I would absolutely recommend this book to teens and parents--or even just adults who struggle with self-confidence. Many of the methods described *actually* work. Some of them are ones I myself stumbled across while trying to navigate this very subject almost 20 years ago. If I'd had this book, I would have certainly boosted my self-confidence faster and had something to rely on in those moments of self-doubt. ... show more

Practical Guidance and Skills that will last a lifetime!
Format: Kindle
Derek has hit the key points right on the head! It's not easy to be a teen and never has been; the stakes seem even higher now with everything being so public due to social media. This book gives great pointers on boosting self-esteem (which leads to more self-confidence), finding your passion, changing your vibe (because you really do attract what you put out!) and so much more. As a certified life coach for teens, all these things are issues my clients and I work on and to have a resource where they can read it and then talk about application in sessions is a wonderful thing! ... show more

SO Important for Teens - and Anyone!

Over my years as a parent, I have accumulated a mini-library of parenting books on various topics. This book is absolutely one the most useful and one of my favorites! It is insightful, easy to read, and engaging and a MUST READ for teens, teachers, and anyone raising teens. I have already passed this along to my friend who has a mental health and wellness curriculum at her studio for kids of all ages. Derek compiles wisdom needed to become one's authentic self in a way that will appeal to anyone! I cannot wait for my 16 and 13 year olds to read this book, and will also read this with my 9 year old. ... show more

Great self-help book for teens
Format: Kindle
As parents, we'd probably had conversations about some of these 'growing up' topics such as bullying and self image with our children. This book comes packed with these topics, and then more. Topics such as growth mindset, law of attraction etc. are touched on and this is an excellent resource where each chapter is a good starting point to have a such conversations with your tween/teen. I like that there are questions in it to help your teen think through some of the topics and you can take each chapter on its own and re-read the chapters that you need more reinforcement in. All in all, a great introduction 'self-help' book for teens to start with ! ... show more
