I purchased these Brooks Women's Ghost Max 3 Neutral Running and Walking Sneaker in November 2025. This was four months past my Post Double Arthrodesis surgery that July 8th 2025. Prior to purchasing these, I had that major foot/ankle surgery. It's a pretty rough and maddening surgery as you'll be completely off your feet for several months and most definitely need either professional in home care 24/7, a trusted life one or very patient spouse, or if Insurance allow, you'll be in a patient medical rehab hospital where you'll receive 24/7 care like having your personal needs met (commode, moving to and from bed, commode to wheelchair to a recliner, if you have one as you must keep your legs elevated and again, CANNOT weight bear. I BARELY touched the floor with my left foot and I eventually was experiencing pain on that side as well, especially on my hip area where I had a total hip replacement over 13 years ago. As I said, this surgery can be VERY challenging and at times maddening. For many reasons. A couple are - You have to rely on someone else for pretty much EVERYTHING. Even the first few days post surgery you need help "cleaning yourself" on the commode. Right there, regardless if it's your husband and they've seen the very best of you AND the worst, this was embarrassing and frustrating ...to put it mildly. After about a week I got better at cleaning myself, but again, you cannot stand or walk. So he pretty much did everything for me. And I'm very grateful. Of course I'd do it for him if it were reversed. I think being he's such an antsy person, he'd be very frustrated if this were him...until he would just have to resolve to the fact this is how THIS particular post surgery goes and one must abide by the criteria - or you will not heal well and it will only take longer. Fast forward...it's now just shy of 13 months since that surgery. Recovery can take anywhere from 12 - 18 months, and sometimes longer, depending on the individual. I went to PT around 5 months later. It was very strange as you feel like you are learning to walk again. You need to learn balance too. That's a big one. Because you almost feel like you're going to fall down, or if someone even remotely walks near you, you feel a sense of anxiety that you'll fall. And that could possibly happen. But thankfully, that's what having quality Physical Therapy and a great Physical Therapist do for you, along with my Brooks footwear... I now got the OK to start driving again. Oh my! It's been over 13 months now. Yes, you don't forget, but I told my husband I want to take the car around our neighborhood for a few runs first to get "acclimated again." I personally would feel better doing that, then heading out to the main roads, etc. Looking forward to that for sure. Now, you say, we "WHY all the talking about my personal surgery experience? Well I was building up to that. I had to wear specific footwear after my Double Arthrodesis surgery. You just can't wear any Athletic footwear or any slipper, etc. I personally cannot go barefoot even at home any longer. This has been like this for at least 12- 14 years, even before this surgery. I used to be a "Wilma Flintstone" lol walking barefoot all over my apartment, etc. - of course NOT outside. My average feet, albeit problematic feet, were giving me major issues, including advanced Arthritis throughout both feet and ankles. I had surgeries on my feet before, especially the right foot. And now again, this surgery on my right. This surgery is much different than a Bunectomy. I've had that too. Twice. I had a normal arch years ago, but over the years, I developed fallen arches. THAT really makes your feet hurt if barefoot. At least mine. So, how am I now? Honestly? I saw my Orthopedic Surgeon. He said my recent images looked good and I was doing everything appropriate. Well, hell yeah. I sure as heck do not want to go through this again. But I still have all the same Arthritis AND, after this surgery, I have a constant feeling of what I describe as a "wrap that fits somewhat snug, around the entire middle of my foot" and it ALWAYS feels snug, not very tight, unless I over do it, which still at this point isn't that much yet. Then I'll get some swelling. But, for the most part the extreme swelling HAS subsided. I mean Miss Piggy swelling - as a visual. And I have normal sized feet. The feel I feel ..that snug, wrapped around my foot feeling, is NON STOP, 24/7. Is it maddening? It was. At the beginning. It drove me crazy and I was very frustrated and concerned. I'm still not over joyed by this feeling, but oddly enough, it's a numb feeling but still hurts ..a little. I know. Strange. When I was finally able to wear the proper footwear to start my Physical Therapy and baby steps at walking and balancing, etc, I was given a few choices. I purchased a few with my intention to return the ones I didn't quite feel comfortable in. These are YOUR feet, and after this surgery, you damn well better get the best footwear that's appropriate for your needs. Especially after Double Arthrodesis surgery which is very specific. Upon trying those few brands which I won't have, but not that they aren't good, it's just they "weren't right" for me. Until I tried on the BROOKS WOMEN'S GHOST MAX 3 NEUTRAL RUNNING & WALKING SHOES AND SNEAKERS. They fit beautifully. They have the proper Orthopedic insoles with deep heel cup plus stability that is an absolute must after this surgery. Of course they are a great shoe for many even if you haven't had a surgery. But I highly recommend. And I have bunions. I took the 8 1/2 wide as my foot was more swollen then. But I still wear the shoes now and they feel great. Whenever I place my feet in these shoes, they FEEL GOOD. They feel supported without feeling like my foot is in a vice or the show is overly stiff. I was and still am impressed by this shoe. And it's helped me just as much as my Physical Therapy has. I'm very grateful a "shoe" could do all this. AND look stylish too.

I've been struggling most of my life to find shoes that are wide enough to not cause any major discomfort or pain in my feet, and the Ghost Max 3 is BY FAR the best shoe I've found. I've tried Skechers, New Balance, and Altras, to name a few brands you may be familiar with. I still long for the goga mat insoles of skechers, but at some point their shoes became narrower and narrower over time. It came to a point where going up 2 or 3 sizes still wasn't enough to get the width or height I needed for my "high volume" foot. I stuck with New Balance for a while because it was more widely available to try on in stores etc. But eventually they phased out some of the wider models that fit me too, and had meager offerings for any true XX Wide shoes for Women. Then I tried Altras. I LOVE the toe box on Altras, but as many others call out in their reviews--the midfoot area is often too tight. I also felt that Altras seem to target very active folks, so a lot of their shoes are designed for specific needs like cross training or hiking rather than everyday use or walking. I would still totally recommend Altras to any wide feet friends who are targeting those needs, OR who want a low drop/zero drop shoe with less cushioning. Personally however, the Brooks Ghost Max 3 (and hopefully future models of this shoe line) will continue to be my holy grail. My BIGGEST COMPLAINT is that there are only 2 color options (that I've seen on Amazon and the Brooks home website) for the XX Wide version of this shoe for Women. They are also not my top picks of the colors they offer for the regular width, and I have seen others say the same. ADDITIONALLY, the Ghost Max 4 is now available for pre-order and still continues this trend. In fact, the colors available of the 4 are so horrid that I'm contemplating getting another pair of Ghost Max 3's to hold me over until the next generation. If Brooks truly needs to cut costs by offering only 2 or 3 color options for XX Wide models, I feel like it would be better to keep options simple and flexible. Rather than some slightly funky option and an all black shoe (which often gets called out as ugly because they look like food service shoes), I think a better solution would be... 1. All White 2. Black Upper, White Sole 3. All Black (Or their most popular color ordered in regular widths based on pre-order, released at a slightly delayed timeframe). I would knock off a star for color options on the XX Wide widths, if it weren't for being afraid that these shoes might disappear completely lol. I would rather have a shoe that actually fits and is comfortable than looks pretty, so I guess it is what it is. As a side note, one other thing that might be worth mentioning is that I think the base model of this shoe is fantastic, but could possibly be upgraded based on your personal needs with an insole that targets whatever your specific needs are. I tried out an insole that I bought for my previous pair of shoes (recommended to me based on a professional fitting at a shoe store) and it felt like an entirely different shoe. So, you never know what could be worth trying! TLDR; best overall XX Wide fit Women's shoe I've ever tried! Sad about color options, but happy with comfort.

These are by far the best training shoes I’ve ever owned. I have metatarsalgia, and they provide outstanding cushioning, support, and comfort during workouts. They significantly reduce pressure on the ball of my foot, allowing me to exercise without discomfort. They’re lightweight, well-made, and perfect for both training and walking. I walk about 6 miles every other day on concrete, and these are by far the best shoes I've ever worn. My previous go-to brand was Hoka, but these have exceeded my expectations. The cushioning feels like walking on a cloud, providing excellent impact absorption and keeping my feet comfortable even during long walks. The upper material is very breathable, which was especially important during the hot Florida summer. The grip is also excellent, making me feel secure and stable even when walking in the rain. It took a few tries to find the right size. I normally wear a regular size 8, but the perfect fit for me ended up being an 8.5 Wide. Overall, I highly recommend these shoes for anyone who spends a lot of time walking on hard surfaces.

I bought these after reading reviews about how good they can be for sciatica issues, of which I have been suffering recently. I'm also recovering from a neurological issue, so I have felt generally unsteady on my feet. These shoes have been really great in my recovery program. They make me feel stable because the case is so wide (though the footbed itself feels completely normal). I feel like the cushioning is really comfortable without being ridiculous. It seems like it is really absorbing the impact of my steps. I also like the fabric upper because it feels like my feet can breathe. Great walking shoe!

These are ok, and not too bad, but I prefer the Ghost Max 2 way better. I bought t hese because I really liked the Ghost Max 2 shoes I got last year. I thought that I would get a new pair, but they were no longer available as they are discontinued, however these Ghost Max 3s were the updated model. I thought i would get them because they were just the newer version, but after wearing them I quickly noticed that these aren't nearly as comfortable, so I just went back to wearing my older version, because they are just nicer and far superior in every way. It appears Brooks wanted to increase their margins, and unfortunately I was one of the guinea pigs. Im not happy with these shoes over my older ones, these are a lot like my cheaper adidas and if I knew about the changes, I would have just spent 1/3 as much and purchased adidas or new balance, or even under armor, as they are all very comparable and i have tried and own them all.

I'm 5'2" and 114 lbs. I ordered a size 7 (regular width). After trying several popular walking shoes, this one was the clear winner for me. It has the perfect balance of cushioning and stability. The foam feels soft without being overly bouncy, so I feel very stable while walking. The toe box is roomy enough for my feet, which is important because I have a tailor's bunion and need extra space around my toes. I can tell this shoe will be comfortable for long sightseeing trips with 10,000+ steps a day. If you're looking for a supportive, stable, and comfortable walking shoe, I highly recommend giving the Ghost Max a try.
