  • Superb trail shoe
As a runner w wide feet, only a few brands of shoe fit well. Brooks is one of them. Size 10EE and this shoe fits perfectly. As a lugged trail running shoe, I could not ask for more. Slightly stiff which I want in this type of shoe, very stable. My foot feels locked in. Slightly heavier than other shoes but it’s a trail runner, not a sprinting spike. They clean up fairly well, are breathable. I am a huge fan of this show. ... show more

  • For me way better than the Hoka Speedgoat 4/5
Size: 12 Color: Blue/Navy/Firecracker
I have been in the sportswear business for 35 years... specifically footwear. IMO the Hoka Speedgoat has way too much cushion and it supinates the foot as though you're about to roll the foot. Too much cushion promotes instability throughout the foot into the knees. The Cascadia seems to have the perfect blend of cushion with stability. With the Speedgoat every time I stepped on uneven surfaces such as rocks it felt like I was one wrong move away from rolling the ankle. As width goes I would call this shoe D- C+ across the midfoot and D+ in the toe area of the shoe. The shoe is designed as a "low" volume shoe which means the foot should fill the entire shoe with little wasted space. For someone that has a low instep, this fit design is perfect. For me, I have a high instep so the low volume fit now reduces the width of the shoe (making it very tight across the midfoot. For me, I tried going up 1/2 size and the Wide version. The Wide version makes the shoe too wide in areas that I don't want wide. I want the tailored fit, so the 1/2 size up was perfect. There is nothing wrong with more toe room. ... show more

  • Well made shoes but not wide.
Bought a EE size but it's barely wide in the mid-foot, toebox is okay, not anything special. The shoes themselves are quite good tho, the cushioning is firm but still very comfortable, exactly what I want for a trail shoe. The full rock plate does an excellent job of making rocks vanish underfoot especially when combined with the protective cushioning. The upper seems pretty decent but again could use some more width in the mid-foot area. Still easy enough to get a good lockdown. The outsole is mostly good, nice lugs, a good pattern and the split heel really soaks up uneven surfaces, the compound itself isn't the stickiest rubber I've used however, this is Megagrip levels of traction but it's not terrible. ... show more

  • Sturdy with great support but liner is coming apart
Size: 13 Color: Lemon Chrome/Sedona Sage
I wanted to love these but my experience with these has been mixed. The good: sturdy upper, quality materials, good support and a grippy (at least on dry surfaces) sole. But, the lining of the shoe began to tear after only a couple of months' use, which is not good. So durability hasn't been great at least in my case. ... show more

  • Value
Size: 12 Color: Lemon Chrome/Sedona Sage
Used them to hike Buck Head Mountain overlooking Lake George in upstate NY. Excellent traction and appropriate firmness to handle the rocky terrain. Toe box not as roomy nor as flexible as previous Brook's shoes.... but worked out better because of lateral forces exerted by the rocks.

  • Passed my expectations!
Size: 10.5 Color: Sharp Green/Navy/Firecracker
I’ve been an Altra Lone Peak guy since version 1. The quality/durability has went way down (130miles shoes dead) so decided to try a proven workhorse shoe. Now this shoe if obviously very different from my usual more barefoot design but I have the 1st 5k trail run down in them and I'm seriously impressed. WHAT I’VE NOTICED: 1 Stability- is a 10 out of 10. The trail I ran today threw a lot of narrow, tapered down and big quick decents. This shoe hooked up unbelievably downhill. Plant the foot and I just slowed to a manageable speed. Amazing! 2. Comfort- Rock solid (pun intended) support. Didn’t have ANY pain post run. Stepped directly on rocks and roots and literally barely noticed them. Toe guard worked amazing as I snagged a root and felt zero pain (would have killed with my Lone Peaks). 3. Mobility- they felt a little stiff for the 1st mile but opened up very nicely and really started to mimic my foot well. 4. Speed- they felt very slow but I guess it was a mentality thing because I beat my PR for this trail by over 3 minutes. On only a little 5k that’s remarkable. “Slow is smooth and smooth is fast” I noticed much more but don’t want to drone on forever on how impressive these shoes quite literally are. 45 years old- Variable mountain terrain- Minus 3 minute PR- ... show more
