Description

From the gutter to the stars... Dance brought us back together. Our pain and hurt bled out with every movement, with every step across the dance floor. The Breakers never expected to love me again and I never believed we could get past our pain. Yet here we are. My Breakers are mine once more. But nothing is ever that simple when it comes to us. True happiness only comes when you’re free. Free to love. Free to dance. Free to live. But that kind of freedom comes at a high price. The Breakers are still members of the Skins. Jeb is still their leader. David is still a psychopath, and now there are new enemies to contend with. Dance might have brought us back together, but it’s going to take more than a beautiful routine to keep us all alive. It’s time for the Breakers to own up to their truth, just like I did. It’s time for the Breakers to live up to their name. It’s time for the Breakers to start breaking things. Breakers is book three of this dark gang romance romance and deals with adult themes and some subjects you may find upsetting. If you love dance, your men on the criminal side, alpha hot holes, and the friends-to-enemies-to- lovers trope, this is for you. Contains foul language and sexual scenes. Read more

  • the breakers are stronger together!
Breakers delivers the penultimate dance in the Academy of Stardom Series, and I have all the feelings! This series is just so special- truly, there is nothing like it- creative, innovative, emotionally intense, this is a series that has captivated from page one. These characters- their flaws and complicated dynamics- have gripped me. And now, oh now we finally get to see what we’ve been waiting for. We get to see these 5 broken souls somehow find a way back together while facing seemingly insurmountable emotional baggage and imminent danger. And what an emotional and sexy journey! Like all her stories, her titles have meaning. It is no accident that Breakers is the title- this books about the crew identity, about the Breakers family. In dancing, a breaker squad is like one living organism. A bunch of individual dancers with their own strengths and roles who are united by one steady beat, a shared rhythm, and somehow (in good breaking at least) those individuals merge into one, with no one more or less important or more or less central. Moving as one, breathing as one- each dancer an extension of the other. THAT art, well that is what Bea replicates in this story. Lyrical set the stage- it was about an emotional catharsis, about the messy act of reconciliation, a story about the weight of healing. They started to confront their pain, confronting each other. And now, now in Breakers, these characters we love have to figure out what to DO with all those feelings, and how to grow together after so many years of growing apart. About finding the strength in their unity instead of the years of trying to find the strength to recover from their fractures. BREAKERS is about the unit, reforming their family, becoming ONE. Of course, our individual characters still grow, still confront past hurts and current insecurities, but the overarching arc of this story is about becoming the crew- figuratively, of course, but Bea has always so cleverly told their stories in dance. Their progress, their growth can always be tied to their artistic expression, so we also get to see them LITERALLY move as one, too. And it is total magic. In dance, but also in heart, crew that pulses to the same rhythm, the crew that beats as one. But Breakers isn’t just about dancing, it is about the emotional center of this story. These characters are broken...and that is because they have been breakers themselves. Because they have broken each other- which in turn, has made them breakers of themselves. They’ve hurt each other, out of naivete, out of altruism, out of anger- a string of emotionally destructive decisions that have torn each other apart. But, they’ve grown and evolved. Once isolated, they were thrust back together, but they weren’t REALLY together. But Breakers changes all that, they’ve learned how to hurt each other, now they have to heal. As one. Bea shows us how sometimes we have to break in order to really be whole, to really SEE. And oh my, how Pen gets to see Xeno, Dax, York, and Zayn. Bea exposes them wholly- their fractures, their broken and gnarly bits. No more secrets, no more pretense- just five flawed, beautifully broken individuals who just want a universal human experience they’ve been denied- unconditional love, safety, and family. They all have sharp edges, made from the breaks they’ve given each other, but Bea so carefully and tenderly puts them back together. Our Breakers shrug their reps, their personas, open their hearts fully, so that they can finally heal together. So they can take the broken pieces of the wreckage of their pasts pains and piece them together into one beautiful mosaic. Different than before, but better, more beautiful, and STRONGER. Because combined, they are, in fact, unbreakable. As always, Bea brilliantly matches tone and pace to her immersive character journeys- so we can truly immerse ourselves. While I know we are THIRSTY for the take down of the big and scary bad guys, Breaker is not the finale- this is setting the stage for it. The story has some action, but for the most part, our action keeps the focus on the true task at hand- bringing the harem together. Getting everything out in the open (oh yes, there is more to reveal), re establishing trust, and exposing the depth of their love so that they can learn to operate together again. And that is harder than it seems- because these characters have changed so much, and they are still changing. They are no longer the young adults in a basement experiencing first love- they’ve loved and lost, they’ve done horrible things to protect each other, they’ve experienced immense, character defining pain and sadness. Lyrical freed their emotional trauma and let us/them sit in it, Breakers is about them figuring out the path forward, redefining their individual relationships but most important defining the relationship they never actually truly had romantically- the harem. And Bea gives us this incredible gift tonally and with the pace. She really slows things down, she allows us to marvel at their new-found reconnection, and, GASP, let’s us soak up their happiness, their intimacy, the joy they have to be exploring what they thought was forever lost. Our story starts slow and sweet, Bea mutes the urgency some. Not what I was expecting, and at first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. But, then I realized, THIS Is the very heart of this story. These 5 coming together- THAT is really its heart, and I love that Bea respects its magic, gives space for its beauty, and recognizes that dark, gritty danger aside, these moments are this story’s steady beat. OF COURSE, that also means we get some SCORCHING heat. HOT MAMA, Bea has been holding out on us- and lord, she delivers. The chemistry here is just so delicious- a beautiful balance of emotional and physical intimacy. And throughout, a few of our characters get to shine- Xeno in particular gets some character growth moments here we’ve been anxiously awaiting, and they do not disappoint. Along the way, these characters have all had their own growth arcs, and I love how Bea has united their arcs now into the growth of them not as individuals but together. The power of the chemistry in Breakers, though, really comes from Bea removing the veil from these men. We see them fully, uninhibited and hearts on their sleeves, for the first time. Which means we also see and feel the depths of their love for Pen in a way we haven’t yet- and OH MY, it is beautiful and even more intense and meaningful than I had imagined. GAH, I just love this series. And the writing! It is just so incredibly inventive- truly innovative and inspired, and hands down one of the most unique reading experiences I’ve ever had. These characters, their story, is so intimately connected to dance. I’ve marvelled at Bea’s capacity to merge music and movement with her imagery- the dance moments pulse off the page, with an emotive resonance that has astounded me in its artistry. But Breakers moved me further with a culminating artistic moment that left me sobbing- from it’s beauty, from its meaning, from its power. Pen and her guys began with dance, they’ve fought and battled and hurt through it, they’ve healed through it, and watching them unite and reform themselves behind it is perhaps one of my favorite literary moments ever. The story of the Breakers, in movement, moved me deeply. I felt it in my soul. Of course, things won’t stay sunny for long. The plot has thickened, and even though our Breakers have found their way back into the safe embrace of each other, their enemies are still a volatile and unpredictable threat. A threat that painfully manifests in a heart-stopping ending that has me begging for Finale. But now, well now our Breakers are ready to truly face their foes, because they are finally one. A crew that is healing, a few that has evolved, a crew that is at long last open and honest and equal. But most importantly, a crew that is strong in their love for each other. At long last, they’ve found what they were always denied, and NONE of them are going to give that up- which means we are in for a jaw-dropping and dangerous final dance in FINALE. A reckoning is coming- and now that the Breakers are no longer breaking each other, they are ready to truly break their enemy. ... show more

  • This world and characters are incredible <3
Breakers is book 3 of this amazing series and do an audiobook listen leading up to book 5’s release has made me fall for these characters all over again and I am going to be so emotional when we close the door on their story and lives (hopefully just for now!). We finally get the resolutions we had been waiting for, the walls come down even more, the steam is turned up a notch and more characters from the shared world make an appearance (love the Easter eggs and spinoff series coming from this one!). I loved every second of this book. Lyrical and Breakers are seriously tied for my favorites out of the 4 (and a lot of her other series’ - I mean Grim and Beast still are at the top though haha. So many laughs). Ok back to the review. Now I can’t get into too much what I loved because I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone, but we finally get all the guys officially on board with being back together with Pen. Xeno lets some things come out that he had wanted to keep to himself and he finally makes that step to allowing himself to love Tiny and her to love him back, despite how he thinks he doesnt deserve it. Pen has to cope with the aftermath at Tales, and the hits just don’t stop coming with many sides for the Breakers. The ending of this book was WILD and so many twists. So epic. The steam and romance was so much fun in this one. The Magic Mike moment *fans myself*, the way someone has been taking care of Lena made me swoon so hard, and helped get the family on track, the adorableness of Grim and her news and loving seeing her and Pen’s budding friendship that become sisterhood. I loved seeing Hudson again, and the nickname they gave him hahaha. This author does a good job bringing levity into some hard topics and books and I loved that we got that with how York always acts, but them being silly together, the joking with Beast, etc. I couldnt pick a favorite of the Breakers, they all upped the ante and made me love them all, hook line and sinker! Narration was good again. Nothing more to say, same small criticisms but the emotion in this one was more intense than the others. With the different baddies and the aftermath of their chaos and destruction, the confrontation with new characters, the deaths, etc. So an emotional rollercoaster, but the narrators did a fab job bringing the characters to life in my head while I listened, I felt like I was in the studio, their home, Pen’s old family home, the bar, etc. The narration just helped prove this could be an incredible TV show and how the readers would eat every word up haha. If you havent read this series yet, you are doing yourself a disservice. I didnt want to stop listening but real world life just got in the way! ... show more

  • I am so madly in love with this series.
I am on my way to the Finale and I have enjoyed every moment of it. I am truly and utterly obsessed with this series, these characters, and this plot. I have been reading these books back to back. Switching from audio when I can’t read and then back to my Kindle when I can. I haven’t put these books down because I can’t get enough. Pen has to be one of my favorite characters all around. Actually all of Bea’s characters are my favorites. Let’s be real, I’m obsessed with Pen, Grim, and Clancy. I would give anything to jump into this book and become one of their friends. Especially if I can find a group of breakers. These guys kill me. I love each and every one of them in a different way. They each have their own personalities and quirks. I am so obsessed with the way they care and the way they feel. I am so ready for this Finale but I’m also completely terrified. I already don’t want this series to end because I could read this story forever. This series will forever be one of my favorites. ... show more

  • Ehh..
Sooo.. This one wasn't my favorite. I had a hard time getting in to the book and I kinda feel like I lost the connection with the characters. Which sucks major butt cause I've loved the last two books.

  • Somtimes things have to break to be rebuilt
This third book is about healing, helping each other and building back the trust that no relationship can survive without. They are the breakers and nothing will stop them from getting to their HEA. Bea's writing makes you forget you are reading and you are living it all
