There are so many different versions of the Arizona Birkenstock I wasn't sure what would replace my 20+ year old ones and I got lucky! Fit is perfect, construction materials are just like my original ones from 45 years ago. Soft brushed suede straps, plenty of holes to tighten or loosen, perfect foot bed, not soft, but supportive and not like the originals, these do have some give and fit to your foot after a few hours. Just make sure to put them on correctly! Don't fasten the straps before putting them on. Out of the box, put your foot on the foot bed in a comfortable place (if they are too long or short send them back, you have the wrong size) and then fasten the straps to a comfortable hole. They will give slightly, but you don't want them tight ever. Color is interesting, neutral but not the standard beige I associate with the old original sandals that were difficult to even find in the US.

Update: My original review was in 2016. At that time I ordered a 39 for myself. Then my son wanted a pair and his feet were slightly smaller than mine, so I bought him a 38. He grew out of them so I tried them on since they were barely worn, and I actually like the way the 38 fit better! My 39's suddenly seemed big and clunky. So I suppose it's how you want them to fit. As a women's 8.5-9 (but more often than not a 9), I prefer the 38's. The length is perfect, so I guess I prefer them more snug. The ones I received all 3 times were authentic, but I've had a few pair, so I know what to expect. If you don't, I would highly recommend purchasing directly from Birkenstock. If they weren't authentic, they were going right back. I ordered the exact same shoes, and have included the new and old in the pictures, as well as the box. My old ones are going strong except for the uneven wear on the sole. I love these shoes and live in them 16 hours a day! I ordered these in a 39. I am usually an 8.5 or a 9, and they fit perfectly. I listened to other reviewers that said they run a little big, and they do. Not much, but maybe a half size. They are very durable and comfy. Highly recommend!

I have a pair of Berkinstocks that I have had for years. You slide your foot into them (not sure of exactly what type of design that is, but I wouldn't call it a sandal really, although you would have to wear socks for your foot to be completely covered at the heel. However, your toes do not show and they are not a thong. At any rate, I love them and have always loved them for their comfort and the style never seems to go out. I wanted to try a pair of sandals and tried several different designs before finding one I was happy with. I first ordered a pair of thongs, that had the Birkenstock name, but were not called Birkenstock (the Betulas) but the foot bed was not soft, they were too small and too tight. I returned them for a pair of slide in, not a thong, and liked them, but I thought they showed too much of my toes/in a weird sort of way (the Arizonas), and that they made my toes look big and ugly. I exchanged them again for the thong design and although they are little uncomfortable between the toes, not so much so that I believe they will stretch and get comfortable, as soon as they are worn for a couple weeks. I like the way they look but the foot bed doesn't feel as soft as the slide in/Arizona's that I had. I am going to keep them and as I said, I like them enough that I believe they will stretch out (the ones I have ended up being satisfied with are the Adria design. I loved the way the Arizona's look and feel, just not on my foot. I am obviously hard to please, but am a fan of Berkinstocks since I have had my first pair and was confident I could find a pair I liked.

I wear (perhaps a little under) a men's 9; so ordered the Men's size appropriate for that. The package arrived and fortunately there was an outer tough shipping envelop, as the interior box was pretty much mangled in shipping; as such, the sandals were pressed together so much that, after a week, the first strap on one still is pressed down, so they do not permit the foot to "slide" in as easily as expected. They are a bit narrower than expected, although good arch support and at the lower limit of what I would call a tight fit ... but workable and nice to have around the house

I am usually an 38.5 (womens 8), however i needed to return that size and buy the 37 (womens 6-6.5). These are snug and comfortable for me! I would say I am on the mid-narrow feet size so I have the straps adjusted to their smallest hooks. If you have a wider foot, I would either go with the wider base or try this one out and adjust the straps wider. Make sense? The cork bed will do a pretty good job of molding to what you feetsies need. The suede straps are soft and enhance the comfortability. Just be mindful that the first few times you wear them, part of the suede coloring may come off on your foot.
