    • Width is important
Wide for me, should of gotten a narrow. 2nd hole from the last on straps and still loose. They are leather and I hate to go the last hole and have them stretch so soon. Since I haven’t had them for very long. So I’m wearing them loose.

My feet are a bit wide and I usually wear normal width in Birkenstocks. I ordered these in narrow width since they have only one strap. Glad I did. They are a perfect fit and very comfortable. A versatile, nice looking shoe:

The quality of these Birkenstocks was as good as expected but they were just too long for me. I ordered my normal (European) size. I think the problem may be that my foot is a little on the wide size. In shoes, a little extra length helps with the width. But in sandals with adjustable straps the extra length is not needed...and is, in fact, detrimental. So my advice is to pay attention to the length, not the width, when ordering these sandals. If in doubt, suggest ordering down. ... show more

These do not run big. They are traditional Birkenstock sizing. Because of the reviews, I bought a 39 (I wear a size 9) and they were too small. Do not size down on these babies. I love Birks and usually wear the Gizeh but thought the Madrids would be a cute change of pace. Unfortunately, they ripped the heck out of the tops of my feet while just trying to break them in walking around the house. They are cute but going back. ... show more

I got these as a birthday gift for my husband and he loves them! Everyone I know who has a pair (or pairs) absolutely loves their Birks - including me!!! This was a great purchase!!! It took a little while for the package to arrive from Germany, but it was well worth the wait!!! :)

I love these sandals. They are always very firm at first but I just wear them around the house for a day or 2 and then they go everywhere. They "break in" quickly and you have a customized shoe. The patent leather is unique and works well with maxi dresses.
