Description

Odyssey from Bicycle Playing Cards is a premium playing card deck meant to transport card collectors, card enthusiasts, and card players alike to a different time and land. The design for the deck began with the court faces, which were inspired by the Trophy Whist No. 39 deck, first printed by The United States Playing Card Company in 1895. The faces were re-colored in beautiful, monochromatic blue tones, while the suits still retain their traditional black and red colors. The blue tones of the court cards inspired the theme of the deck, which is taking card enthusiasts on an adventurous quest on the high-seas as well as on land. The tuck design continues the theme of monochromatic blues and features intricate wave-like elements as well as a central compass. The tuck case is printed on matte finish paper with gorgeous light blue metallic foil details for an ultra-premium look. All Bicycle playing cards are made in the USA with Bicycle’s classic Air Cushion finish. This gives the playing cards a linen-like feel and allows cards to glide smoothly off one another during shuffling, dealing, and flourishing. These cards are gorgeous in addition to being an affordable price. They're the kind of quality one would expect from Bicycle. The indexes are very large. There are complaints about the red being dark and difficult to distinguish from the black, but maybe that is more the case when playing in a poorly lit area. I think the two colors are distinguishable; the key thing about this deck being subtlety, and so the colors have a subtle (and perhaps difficult to distinguish for some people) difference too. The colors, including the blue tones, in this deck are muted but very pretty, especially on the card backs. If you're expecting foil on the cards as on the tuckbox, they do not have that and you will be disappointed. I took it for what it is and the subtle, muted, ancient sort of aesthetic is definitely my thing personally, though it won't be for everyone. What I found interesting is how all of the face cards are distinct, not standard, and different from suit to suit. (You can tell by the different flowers the queens have.) Absolutely love that. I loved the color and design of these cards. I love the compass rose. They are coated so a little slippery but I really like them and will probably order 2 more decks.

Its weird how slippery these cards are. Its hard to hold on to. When shuffling it will take a little getting used to. I own a lifetime set of KEM cards. They were very slippery too. But, more supple. They bend easier and shuffle better right out of the box. But, they become brittle over time and 20 years later they are falling apart. I hope these very stiff cards get easier to use and hopefully last just as long...we will see. ... show more

We play cribbage every day, and these cards have held up perfectly. No creases no bends or lamination issues. We have tried several decks, and these are the best so far.

I don't know why but I decided to collect some of these playing cards that looked cool. I have no intention of actually using them or even opening them so I can't really review them, but legendary bicycle quality assures at least they should be great if I ever do open them.

    • Don't buy plastic cards. WAY SLIPPERY.
They look very nice, but they are hard to shuffle because they are the most slick cards I've ever seen. You better be really good at handling these plastic cards.

    • Just a deck of cards but the box is pretty. Cards aren't foiled.
Bicycle are reliably decent playing cards. The card stock isn't notably thick or thin - just there-enough. The faces are printed big and bold and classy - very nice. The pattern on the card backs is very nice. I'll admit disappointment based on my own expectations (isn't it always so?); I was soooo excited for these shiny-foil-backed playing cards! But they're not... They're just regular acceptable-good cards in a shiny box. ... show more
