This review is for the Black and Rose Gold Bicycle Metalluxe Playing Cards for $12.99. I love cards. I am known to buy them just for the love of the limited designs. And Bicycles are always a favorite - mostly because in college (30+ years ago), I had a friend who I taught to play Gin Rummy and she couldn't figure out why they were called Bicycle. I said - the backs - isn't it obvious? She said she thought they were tiny fairies on pogo sticks. I have never thought of them the same way since. Right out of the pack, the first thing you notice is the metallic finish on the backs. The quality is the same as other decks of Bicycle cards that I own - they are shiny and have an almost grass-cloth texture that makes them feel a bit more luxurious than a standard deck. The metallic backs are reflective and stunning. They shuffle well and retain their shape even after making the rainbow. The only reason these lose one star for me is because the color of the grey is a little darker than I thought it would be. Between this and the standard red/black used on the face of the cards, it's very difficult to see the contrast - the red/black almost blends in, if that makes any sense. It's definitely not a deck I'd choose for a poker night where the lights are dimmed. But as just a deck to show off - it's gorgeous.

I’ll start with the good: these cards are beautiful. The black and gold metalluxe finish gives them a luxe, premium feel. The foil catches light in a really nice way, so they look sharp on the table. If you care about aesthetics (or want to gift something that looks special), these deliver. In terms of handling, they’re decent. They shuffle okay, fan okay- not perfect for serious cardists, but good enough for poker nights or casual games. A few cards had slight stiffness right out of the box, but nothing that made them unusable. Over a few rounds, they loosened up a bit. Where they fall a little short: the foil finish can show wear in high-friction spots. After a few games, I noticed slight whitening along card edges on one or two cards. Also, in dim light the gold foil sometimes caused glare, making smaller pips or suits harder to read. If your lighting is less than ideal, that could annoy you. Finally, for the price, I expected a bit more durability. If you’re going to use these a lot, or roughly, these may not last forever. But for occasional use, game nights, or just wow factor, they’re a solid pick. Bottom line: I’d give them 4 stars. If beauty and gifting appeal matter to you more than raw performance, these are worth it. For high-use or serious play, I might pick a more rugged deck.
