Nice looking tires

  • White letters are peanut butter brown
After installing the new BFG T/A's 215/60R 15 on my car it sat in the garage for months and the letters turned peanut butter brown. I tried several known cleaners for white lettered tires with no luck at all. Thinking it may be an issue with the manufacturing of the tire I thought it might be the heat from molding. This led me to try a different approach. I got out the trusty bottle of Wesley's Bleach-white and wet sanded the letters with the cleaner and a folded piece of 320 grit D/A paper. The letters cleaned up to an acceptable white. They still are not as white as others I have had but 90% better than the peanut brown. Time will tell how they hold up. Well after about a week the letters are brown again and car hasn't left the shop. Guess I will have them remounted and balanced and run blackwall. Very disappointed and won't buy again. ... show more

  • Thanks for the brown “white letters”
Sharron Bell - thanks for the honest feedback. I was afraid this would be the response as I am experiencing the same issue. I find it absolutely insulting that BFG would state that browning of the white letter is not a defect. Most anyone buying these tires are ruining them on a classic car for appearance and therefore the discoloration is a major flaw. Despite what has been stated; this does not wash off either. I have BFG all terrain tires which have not experienced this issues and older BFG TA’s which have not experienced this issue either. Given the cavalier response of BFG I will be taking my business to Cooper as I have yet to see a Cooper tire with yellow/brown lettering. One would think paying a premium would yield a premium product. Not the case here. If you want white letters, do NOT buy BFG!!! ... show more
