Compared to the previous model, the toe box feels a bit stiffer. At first, I felt some pressure on my toes, but after a few days of breaking them in, the discomfort completely disappeared. The outsole also seems to have been upgraded — the material feels slightly firmer, and the larger contact area provides excellent traction. Walking stability has clearly improved on both paved and unpaved surfaces. There appears to be some variation in stitching quality depending on the pair, but the one I received was perfectly made. No crooked seams or loose threads — I’d say I got a good one. Cushioning is on the firm side, but since the sole is designed a bit deeper, it’s easy to fine-tune with aftermarket insoles. I personally use a slightly firm Sorbo-type insole, which gave me my preferred level of comfort. Overall, this new model feels more solidly built and gives a stronger sense of stability compared to the old version. The cost performance is excellent, and I’m very satisfied with it. One of the best boots you can buy for the price. The zipper makes it easy to put them on and take them off. Takes a bit to break them in but once you do that they are good for a long time.

Don't know what happened to their QA since I bought my last pair of Bates, but within a few weeks of wearing these, the zipper came off the track. I've never had this issue before, and I've worn side-zip Bates for decades now without the zippers coming off the track. Even the last pair I had (Bates Ultra-Lites), which were worn for years to the point the tread is all but worn away and the sole is seperating (and which these were meant to replace), are still solid. Cold weather work, wet weather work, and a thousand miles of work travel per month isn't going to be supported by boots which are held together by a velcro strap. I bought Bates because they were a reliable symbol of quality to me. Now I don't know what to think. ... show more

These are great! Wide toe box for bunions. I wore these for 18 hours for 3 days for break in. I can't even ware tennis shoes for that long! Use baby powder to stop the squeak! ( Cuz they aren't really "tactical" with the squeak...lol). They accidentally sent me size 12 when I needed size 11, but I kept them and they fit great. I also ordered the brown suede at size 11 and they fit also. The suede did not need baby powder. ... show more
