This shoe is perfect for my job as a Telecom Technician. I climb ladders all day and walk a lot. I love the zipper on the side as it makes it easy to remove and put on shoe. Just don't install insoles from the beginning. I has previously used a certain insole as it helped to not have sore feet at end of day so I put one in this brand new shoe and began to have foot pain for a couple weeks. Decided to remove insole and now foot pain went away. Maybe wait till original insole is wasted then install new one. Other than that, this shoe is very good. Would buy again. ... show more

I wear these on my security gig. Great comfort-was the only tactical boot I could find with a roomy toe compartment- safety toe requirements at work, not sure why but whatever. Very disappointed there is NO real leather on this boot. All fake, so if you scuff these like I did then there is no kiwi buffing them out. other than that, good boot. ... show more

    • Likely the Best Work Boot On the Market Today
Size: 7 Color: Black
The Bates Men's Tactical Sport 2 Mid Side Zip Safety Composite Toe are likely the best work half-high boot on the market today. PROS 1) It works well when working, without being a full-size boot. 2) Soles have good traction, could always have a little more traction. 3) Boots with an integral side zipper is a must, for easy on and easy off! 4) Vented for warm weather conditions. CONS 1) Boot sizes are too large, whereas I'm an 8.5 typically common/normal size shoe, I'm a minimum 7 with these boots! Matter of fact, 7's might be still slightly too large once broken in! 2) Boots need to be well broken in, either using mink oil or soaked in water, else the boots will be very stiff, which is good but bad for the feet. 3) If well broken in using water or mink oil, the soles can pull apart from the boot, requiring wood working bar clamp and a good shoe glue. Once a good shoe glue is used, I've witnessed no further pulling apart of the sole from the boot! Believe I only used water with my initial pair long ago, and close to 6-12 months of extensive use, the soles simply pulled apart from the boot. ... show more

Pain. Pain. PAIN! My only thoughts as I stood up from tying the laces in my new compliant work boots. Ow. Ow. OW! Continued my brain as I took a step. After my fourth or fifth step, my body began to panic from the pain and like a rabid monkey who accidentally snorted cocaine, I began to hyperventilate slightly as I untied the shoes as quickly as humanly possible to remove the sensation of extreme pain from my feet. I tried relacing. I tried moving the tongue. I tried meditation. I tried a multitude of ways to make this boot work. Nothing prevailed. It’s as if the boot was designed to cause inexplicable and extreme pain for any wearer for as long as the boot remained on the foot. I needed a zip down boot because of my back pain and inability sit and ties my boots due to pain. These fit great, feel great and I even forget to take them off when I get home. So far so good. 20 days in.

I currently have an older pair of Bates boots that are non-zip. The soles are worn down. I work in the DOC and boots are a necessity. These returned boots are not bad but difficult to put on. I understand being new but when I got them on, they were extremely uncomfortable too. The zipper was difficult to function. When I asked my co-workers, without a delay, each said the lower quality of Bates boots actually work better that the new ones. I chose to return them and find a better option. I have an issue with my feet swelling after walking all day. I have found that my feet feel much better after wearing these boots at the end of the day. I was initially concerned about the weight, but I have found that they are not much heavier than the tennis shoes I previously wore.
