  • TWO STARS ARE BETTER THAN ONE.
I never write a product review unless the product is in some way exceptional; that is, it’s getting either a FIVE STAR or a ONE STAR review. (To be fair I should address the fact that, truth be told, no matter the DAW, the selection of usable texts on offer is paltry at best. The majority are downright useless. It is to the latter set this book belongs). (1) This book, ostensibly for teaching how to do something as complex as running a DAW, only has 275 pages. Worse, of those 275 pages, the first 100 pages have nothing to say about Logic Pro X. Instead, the first 100 pages are dedicated to “The World of Audio”. It covers selecting a computer, what is a DAW?, basic recording principles — microphone types, what is multitrack recording anyway?, selecting an A/I, etc. So that leaves the “main topic”, LOGIC PRO X, the remaining 175 pages. And on page 101 we indeed reach the chapter entitled “Logic Pro Concepts, Part 1” (2) ANY text dedicated to teaching ANY software application, DAWs included, require lots of good quality screenshots so you can see if what’s on your screen matches what’s being covered. This book has plenty of screenshots. They’re all rendered in small grainy black and white images of such poor quality that even under a magnifying glass nothing can be seen clearly. Like I said, unfortunately there just aren’t many (if any) really good books of this kind out there. What few there are are priced like a college textbook. They say if you can’t find the book you’re looking for, write it yourself. And I’d do that — if I knew anything about it. ... show more

  • Very instructive overall. But illustrations!!! Not good
Overall this publication is quite informative and covers the surface of most functions of Logic Pro. If you already have beginners or pre-intermediate knowledge of music production software, then you may want to consider a book that delves deeper into each subject than this one does. The only real complaint I must convey is the illustrations! They are black and white, too small to read and cannot be read anyway because they are blurry and muddy. I've included a picture of one of them. Very aggravating after spending so much money! ... show more
