  • It works
Size: S10 Pro
Fit and finish are great - It looks great. It was relatively easy to assemble. When I had questions I found plenty of assembly videos online although curiously few for this model specifically (S10 pro). The controller is mounted at the front (where it should be). I am not a fan of the I/O ports being on the top of the controller box - can you say dust, dirt, particulate collector? The controller comes with a touch screen display/controller for use with off line printing via the micro USB card. I have not used this since I prefer to use the USB tether for control. I was intrigued by the WIFI antenna and have looked extensively for information regarding use of WIFI to control this engraver and have been unable to find anything save a few references to an control app for your mobile devices. I did find the app on the play store and installed it but it seems to look for a WIFI hot spot originating with the engraver but cant find it so the app appears to be kind of useless as well as the WIFI antenna on the controller I, like some others had issues with the x carriage eccentric nut causing real problems with cutting. I did adjust this during assembly to what appeared to create the proper amount of wheel pressure. However, after a few runs it loosened up so there was excessive play on the x carriage. After re-adjusting this cutting works pretty well. Engraving works well. I have tried cork, baltic birch plywood and slate. All worked well, but I have found that I have to use substantially higher power and slower scan times than the suggested Atomstack reference sheets show to achieve satisfactory results - almost as if the laser is not outputting full power. But it could be that I'm new to this and have my expectations set too high. I have added the Atomstack air assist it has greatly reduced discoloration and charring with wood cutting. It also helps keep paper in place when cutting paper. All in all this is a good machine. It works well, but I really wish it had working WIFI control(like Octoprint) and that the ports were on the front of the control box instead of the top. I bought this engraver on sale and the price was very good. Would I but this again? If Atomstack ever makes the WIFI work - maybe. With no WIFI, knowing what I know now, probably not. I would either spend more on their S20 pro or there are other 10 watt engravers that cost substantially less with the same functionality. update 10/2/2022: In my first review I didn't touch on cutting. After more time with the machine and and many attempts at cutting 3 mm plywood I am sorry to say that NONE of my attempts produced any type of what could even be considered marginally successful cuts - no matter how many passes were made. AND - this brought to light another issue I have not been able to resolve: Position repeatability. When making multiple passes, each pass is as much as a half millimeter off from the previous pass. I have checked belt tension, made all screws are properly tightened, frame squareness, material level, laser focus position, etc - all to no avail. The maximum depth I can cut on 3mm baltic birch plywood is about 1mm with 3 passes. More that 3 just adds to the charring and ash and not to the depth of cut. So, I am downgrading my initial review from 4 stars to 3. Atomstacks description clearly says that this model will cut 3mm wood in the product description and my experience says this is not the case. If you are looking for an engraver that will engrave on various substances, this one will work, but my experience has shown that you will have to use substantially higher power to do so than what their documentation says to use. As a cutter for plywood (for puzzles, childrens toys, boxes, etc) I have found it to be NOT functional. And for repeatable positioning, I lacks accurate repositioning. If you are looking for an EXPENSIVE engraver with very limited cutting ability (craft paper (not white), cardboard (around 1mm), then this is the engraver for you. There are as I said initially, other 10 watt (optical power) engravers with the same features for MUCH lower prices. That being said, I definitely would not purchase this machine again, even if they make the WIFI work. It is NOT the multi-function engraver they say it is. ... show more

  • Great Entry Level Machine
Size: S10 Pro
I am completely starting from nothing learning to use lasers and this was a great first purchase. Was easy to assemble, but I did use youtube videos to double check I was doing it correctly. The one thing the instructions and most videos don't tell you is that it is likely that when you set it up and plug it in the first time, the emergency stop button will have been depressed in the shipping and that you must twist it to reset. Nothing like the panic of plugging it in and nothing happening and not finding any help in the manual. ... show more

  • One of the best out there.
Size: S10 Pro
I am new with this type of technology, it is not my first machine though. It’s the second machine I’ve bought on here. It’s a huge investment for a beginner for sure but it is totally worth it. It could be cumbersome for someone totally new to assemble it but it was fun and easy for me. I really enjoy putting it together and get it up running. Everything about this machine was made to be perfect in performance and look. This is why I bought it and of course it's a pro version for some reason right? The machine equipped with 50w but the laser head is 10w. It is the most powerful for under $1000 range. The high-density laser can cut 15~20mm thick wood, engrave mirror, stainless steel metal, ceramics, glass, etc… One of the best features you won’t see from others is the ability to print without the need of a computer. Of course, the setup needs to be connected to a PC at first to upload the files to the machine. After that, it can run the jobs without the need of a PC connected at all times. This is the feature I was wishing for and here it is. Fixed-Focus High-Performance, The focal spot area of the new laser is only 1/3 that of other regular lasers; automatic fixed focus, new laser combine precision engraving and high energy cutting at the same time. Another good thing about this machine is that it supports PC and Mac. Anyone can enjoy this machine because it does not lock into specific PC or Mac. It can read file format like NC, BMP, JPG, PNG, DXF, etc… I’m totally stoke and happy about this machine. I’ll upload video and pictures later soon. No regret regardless about the price. Highly recommended ! ... show more

  • Reasonable power (excellent for the cost) but won't cut clear materials
Size: S10 Pro
This is my first laser and I found it very easy to get setup and begin cutting/engraving. Haven't had any issues with it yet. The precision is fantastic and the power is okay on the right materials. Two big things I would point out: 1. This laser will NOT cut clear materials. I believe this is a function of wavelength. Not a problem with the laser, but if it is your first laser (like me) and you want to use it cut clear materials like acrylic, this is not the laser for you. I think it's a great "first laser", but it is limited in what it can do. Ideally you want to cut things that are dark & thin. BTW, it cuts black acrylic fine, it just can't cut transparent materials. 2. Lasers burn through the material they cut. I know this seems obvious, but if you're going to be cutting a lot it produces a fair amount of smoke. Not necessarily so much that it looks like you're working with Cheech & Chong, but the smell will very quickly get annoying (like if you're working with Cheech & Chong). I ended up building a fume hood that vents to the outside and now the setup is great, but I wouldn't consider using this without fume extraction in anything smaller than a pole barn. ... show more
