  • This hardy, inexpensive gaming laptop will be the best $700 you ever spent on a laptop.
Style: Laptop only
Ok, here’s the idiots guide to the FX505DT: Pros: 1. Solid construction. Although the casing is plastic, it seems durable and looks aesthetically pleasing. 2. Keyboard feels great. Adequate travel and firm feeling when you press the keys. The backlit multi-color keyboard lights are a nice touch, although they serve no real purpose as far as I can ascertain. 3. The screen so far has been wonderful. Has an anti-glare feature that helps in bright light. Beautiful refresh rate. I’ve read some peoples reviews who make it seem like the screen is subpar, but I have to adamantly disagree. Colors seem accurate and vibrant, and the refresh rate is great as I stated previously. 4. The specs are more than adequate for my needs. It is quick and responsive, booting up takes no time at all and opening programs/apps seems relatively effortless. With multiple tabs and programs operating at once, I’ve noticed very little lag. 5. Also worth noting is, setup was super simple. Before this laptop it had been a while since I had a windows based computer. They seem to give you more privacy options than I remember (although one has to wonder how legitimately they do to secure your user info and not share marketing metrics despite giving you the impression you can disable sharing your info. Time will tell I guess. Cons: 1. Although this laptop feels durable and robust, it still does leave you wishing it was encased in aluminum or some comparable material. On one hand the plastic feels good enough, but on the other hand it feels a little cheap. For the price though I really can’t complain about this. 2. The trackpad is a bit touchy. If you use two hands to occassionally manipulate the pad, you will notice some alignment issues. You think your finger is right where your last finger was, but in reality it’s not. Perhaps this has to do with the the pad not being directly centered in the middle. It’s hard to explain. 3. Microsoft preinstalled some shitty apps and games that I deleted expeditiously. You may want to do the same. VERDICT: This is one bad ass laptop. It’s strong as is, but is also upgradeable in terms of RAM, space and WIFI. If you are looking for a capable laptop, great specs, great screen, and the ability to game, I recommend. It is worth noting, I just received this in the mail 4 hours ago. But so far so good lmfao ... show more

  • Going into year four
Style: Laptop only
This computer is going into its fourth year of existing with daily use, sometimes 5-10 hour days. Everything so far works and works well. I give it roughly twice a year internal cleanings to get out any built up dust. I also upgraded it last year from 8GB of ram to 16GB of ram and has done very well. I have called this computer my PS4, as its so far been able to handle anything I throw at it. I havn't run into a game yet it can't run, though maybe not on the highest detail. Then again I dont mind potato mode at times in various games. Some game titles ive been able to work with [Plus frames settings] Ark: Survival Evolved - Custom settings ranging from low to high. [Low settings on any extra cosmetics, like skybox, or shadows, Medium everything else] League: Max settings Fornite: Custom settings, doesn't like unreal engine 5, but hey this PC is using gear from 4-5 years ago. Minecraft: Custom settings between low and high. Various other games that can be rescourse hungry. Depending on the game, I was able to stream with it while also gaming some of my less resource hungry games. That was before the addition of RAM. I worked with the PC for about 2 years before upgrading the Ram. I highly suggest doing it on your own, it is super easy to upgrade. Plus well worth it for frame rate. Just buy the right item and plug it in basically. The only thing I have ever really noticed with this PC was when I bought it, I thought it was a lemon. It would blue screen randomly, but it was like after it got to know me it never did it again. Same with the wifi, sometimes it acts a fool, but is still stable enough to run. I do plan to replace it at some point in the future. The fans still work and do a pretty good job of self cleaning. There is very little build up when I go in and clean. I still suggest doing it now and again anyways to make sure everything looks okay. I hope to keep this laptop running until I no longer can use it[PC dies, or games just scale past abilities]. Its really easy to get into and work with. I for sure hope to get another Asus, I'll more than likely get an older cheaper one just like this one was [this PC was bought I believe a year or two after release]. ... show more
