  • A Budget View Of The Night Sky
Size: Without Adapter Color: Orange
Our youngest grandson is a space nut. He loves the NASA channel on the television, can name and point out several different constellations and various other celestial facts. A couple of years ago we got him a "star projector" for his room and he loved that, even though he knows none of the formations are real. A couple of weeks ago he was giving me a tour of his bedroom and pointed out the projector and said he wished he could see "real stars" so I started searching for something suitable for him to use. The MLABINYA Astronomical Refracting Telescope fits that requirement perfectly. What I Like: The price. Even at my purchase price of $30, this is a great deal. It's perfect for kids and won't break the bank. It looks sharp, works great and easy for my grandson to set up and observe the outdoors. The 70mm objective lens lets in a lot of light for crystal clear viewing. Once you find an object you want to view, you can dial in a lot of clear details. Adjustable height tripod. It extends from 2 to 4 feet which is great for kids. The supplied tripod holds the telescope well and limits shaking or blurring of the objects in view. Since the attachment point has a standard fitting, it can be placed on a larger sized tripod for use by adults. Interchangeable magnification eyepieces let you see the objects in even greater detail. You can increase the viewing by 1.5x or 3x with the same amazing clarity. Works great for terrestrial objects as well. Everyone can enjoy this telescope. While it is designed primarily for kids, adults will enjoy this telescope as well. Assembly and set up was easy and my grandson has no problems using this on his own. Caveats: The finder scope is somewhat difficult for me to use. Since it sits on top of the telescope and forward of the viewing eyepiece, it's difficult for me to get my big melon in a position to use the finder scope and not bump the telescope. No lens covers. I've already included a zip lock bag with a 4x4" piece of microfiber cloth to clean what will surely be dirty lenses down the road. Lens covers would help keep the lenses clean and it would protect the glass surfaces from whatever kids may put them through. No carry bag or case. Since the kit comes with several pieces that are interchangeable, you have several pieces to keep track of (especially the kids). My grandson is currently using an old gym bag to keep all of the pieces together and easy to transport. I wish the finder scope had the same 45 degree offset that the main viewing lens has. It would certainly make finding an object much easier. Overall I find this to be a great purchase. It's simple but effective, you can really find and see a lot of the night sky and it also doubles as a great big monocular for terrestrial viewing. It's perfect for kids and easy enough for them to use with minimal adult supervision. ... show more

  • A decent children's telescope
Size: Without Adapter Color: Orange
First of all, this is a cheap children's telescope so keep that in mind. I was surprised by the amount of extra eye pieces and accessories it came with. It works well enough for a kids telescope. You can see the moon really well when it's a full moon. If you or your kids aren't wanting to get into astronomy or just looking at some celestial objects, grab this telescope and start here and you can always upgrade later. ... show more

  • Works well
Size: Without Adapter Color: Orange
Definitely a good beginners telescope. As with any telescope, there is a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it it works great. Got this for whenever my niece comes over so we can stargaze.

  • Good quality for the price
Size: Without Adapter Color: Orange
This is a pretty decent telescope for the price. It is much better than I expected for the listed price. While it is not what I would consider to be a good telescope, there's no way you could get a good telescope for even 10 times this price. In my opinion "good" telescopes start at about 20 to 50 times this price. But it is a perfectly adequate beginner scope. I used to have a very large very expensive telescope, but lost it in a fire. At my new house there are too many trees for good astronomical viewing, so I didn't see a point in spending lots of money on a good telescope. When I saw the asking price on this one I thought it would be totally useless. But hey, there's not much to lose either. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is a perfectly adequate little scope. It comes with a good selection of accessories so you don't need to buy anything else. The biggest issue I have is that the tripod is very "wiggly". It wiggles around whenever you touch the scope. But once again, refer back to the price. A good tripod alone is many times the price of this whole set. ... show more

  • Small but good telescope
Size: Without Adapter Color: Orange
You won't mistake this product for a "professional" telescope, but it serves its purpose at its price point ($20 when I ordered it in late Feb 2024). I think it's probably aimed at school students who are interested in astronomy, but as an adult, I'm using it to zoom in on wildlife like birds in a distant tree. I'll look into using it during the upcoming eclipse in the USA, although the scope doesn't come with any filters for such (otherwise dangerous) viewing. The included tripod is a necessity, and it does its job okay. Being plastic, it's not rock solid, but it holds the scope still for the most part. The optics are good but nothing precision like a pro model. Again, given the price point, you're getting a nice telescope aimed at students. I heartily recommend it for this purpose. ... show more
