This model has been updated with a more accommodating forefoot fit while reducing the number of overlays around the forefoot without sacrificing durability. Lastly, the outsole is also more durable, incorporating a traction pattern that's been improved with re- engineered lugs under the heel. Nobody expects the mid tops these days, but they’re just the best. Ankle protection, good support, and these ASICS are even lighter than the old Nike Cross Trainers I loved so much, and have more tread for pavement/natural surfaces…the old ones were kinda slick court shoes, and then wore down slicker SLDR on there. They’re true to size *FOR AN ATHLETIC SHOE*, which means 1/4-size small-ish, or a tight fit for when your foot starts moving around. I’m flat-footed too, and the arch support isn’t too aggressive. All in all, very pleased, and they look nice with jeans, etc. too. Some sneakers have such loud colors, it’s hard to pass them off for casual (non-athletic) affairs, but these have only just enough design/color features to get by, but nothing garish.     • Had to order a whole size larger and the style and design could have been better!!

The overall design is closer to the gel venture 7 because the breathable air vents aren't right against the bottom sole traction whereas the g.v.8's are which allows more water in if you step in a puddle or snow bank (it is a little more water resistant like the g.v.7's used to be)! What I didn't like was in the g.v.7 I wore a 10 1/2 size and in this shoe I had to order an 11 1/2 instead! I also don't like the thinner tongue which can make to top of your foot hurt more after wearing for awhile! Last of all, would it have hurt Asics to make the side stripe red instead of gray to match the little bit of red accents that this shoe did have? ... show more

I've worn Asics for ever and was actually skeptical about buying since other reviewers that where Asics gave poor reviews. Well, in glad I bought them. I have always wanted Asics to make a high top and they finally did. These will make great trail shoes. I'm returning a pair of Merrells that didn't fit like old Merrells did. The Asics have built in stability for people with high arches. They are lightweight, comfortable and fit like good shoes should. Gave these a try to walk the dogs on the wooded trails and maybe some backpacking. Very comfortable. Typical Asics style and size but with the added Mid top for a little ankle protection. Perfect for my application. I have about 30 miles on them and feel like they were broken-in immediately. No noticeable wear on the bottoms yet. Great shoe. ... show more

I am a lady that wanted a pair of these, yet this color are only in the men sizes. Darn I have narrow feet. If you are not narrow footed you might be able to wear these more comfortably. My aunt likes them and they fit her very well.

I've been searching for an alternative to my heavy backpacking boots for some time. I've had Salomon trail-runners in the past but have had fit and quality issues with them. I didn't want to spend $120 on that experiment again. The Venture 8 seems to address my gripes with the speed cross and they do it at a fraction of the cost. They're built well, have nice knobby tread are comfortable and are a available in a nice range of color ways. They're not super supportive (even the mids) and they could use more arch support or removable foot-beds. Other than that, I'm extremely pleased with these! ... show more

Great shoe for work or work-outs, noticeable comfort when walking. ( Sizes run a bit small, if you have a wide foot go half a size up.

    • Good for orthotics
Size: 11.5 Color: Black/Cherry Tomato
I got these because I wear orthotics, which lift my heel a bit, and most shoes slip. I got 1/2 size bigger. took out the original insert and placed the orthotic. Fits perfectly, since it's a mid top, and the shoe doesn't slip on my heel.
