This model has been updated with a more accommodating forefoot fit while reducing the number of overlays around the forefoot without sacrificing durability. Lastly, the outsole is also more durable, incorporating a traction pattern that's been improved with re- engineered lugs under the heel. I’m not sure if the sizing is unique to these shoes or common with Asics, but they run very small. I’m typically a size 9.5 in all tennis shoes. I ordered a 10 and even those were too short and narrow. Returned for a 10.5 and they fit perfect now with about a thumbs width in the toe box to spare. Have only worn the shoes for a couple workouts and runs but they feel great. Lightweight, good grip, good support, and they are incredible affordable compared to some shoes of the same quality for $150+. A couple notes about the black/gold/“cherry” colors: The sides are more of a greenish gold than gold as pictures. And the mesh on top is a dark greenish blue. Not black. I actually like this better than the photo provided! Also several have complained about the laces. They must have been given a bad lot because these are some of the best laces I’ve had. ... show more

ive been using these shoes for a while now, almost daily since purchase. i will say, i did not expect these to be comfortable or to last very long, but they've surprised me. i actually do recommend buying these shoes if you're low on cash and need a replacement pair quick. First off, if you have ever worn any Asics shoe you know they run about a half size small and the Venture 8 MT is no exception. That being said I ordered the same size I have worn in other Asics models like the Kayano, Nimbus, Novablast and Sonoma and the fit was perfect. This is the first "Mid-Top" trail shoe I have ever bought so I was afraid the slightly higher top might bother me but I got used to it fairly quickly. I think the cushioning is just about right for a trail shoe and the mid-top gives the support I was looking for. I took them for a three mile hike right out of the box with absolutely no problems. I was looking for an athletic shoe with ankle support and all I could find were basketball shoes or heavy hiking boots. These ones are nice, my inserts fit inside and they are light and breathable. I wish they had more colors to choose from because I would probably buy more.

I really like these shoes but after a few long days on the trail I would have preferred to have a half size bigger. For just walking I don't notice it but running or trail walking with elevation change I tend no notice a bit of squishing in my toes.

My original review is below. Here is my update: I reordered a half size larger. The length is good but they feel a bit wide. I’d I wear them with thick socks and lass up the mid sections tightly it fit fine. They’re comfortable after a few gym sessions and mile to two miles of walking. The laces are oddly thin to the point they’re uncomfortable. I will probably replace them Original review: As other reviewers have said, they run small. I typically wear an 11-1/2 in most brands including other ASICS and the Amazon recommendation was for that side. But when they arrived it was obvious I’d need a 12 or perhaps a 12-1/2. Other than that the quality seemed good. They looked like the photos. But I am returning them. I may or may not get a larger size. If I do I’ll update this review ... show more

Overall the shoes are great. I made the mistake of going for 11 because the brand doesn't do .5s, should have gone with 12. I expected to " break in" the shoes, but they are pretty well built, the size is exact inch by inch, so go for the larger size.
