I've been running on Gel Kayanos for more than 10 years and this model is by far the most comfortable at impact. The way these handle impact and provide stability is unlike any previous generation of Gel Kayanos. Highly recommend the Gel Kayano 30.

After increasing the distance of my long once over 10 miles my feet started to hurt and I went shopping for better shoes. I went to the store first and tried all the big brands, one shoe on the left foot the other on the right to get a direct comparison. The Kayano 30 "won" against the Brooks Glycerin by a lot. Foot pain went away and I am sticking with this shoe now. Be aware that they run small. I am wearing a whole size larger than typically (12.5 instead of 11.5 for me).

I'm 6'1" 230 and need a supportive walking shoe to wear for knee surgery recovery. Here's a review of the supportive running shoes I tried: ASICS Gel-Kayano 30 Running Shoes - Very supportive. If managing pronation is your top priority, these are for you. Comfortable and excellent Cushioning. New Balance Fresh Foam X 880v13 Running Shoe - If you don't like the new shoes that lift you up with tons of cushioning, these are for you. Comfortable and supportive, but you feel more in touch with the road. Brooks Men's Glycerin 21 Neutral Running Shoe - Close 2nd place. Brooks were a bit too narrow for me, but very comfortable and cushioned. Get wide width if you've had a problem with shoes being too narrow. Good support for larger people and kept my foot from falling in on the arch. ASICS Gel-Cumulus 26 Running Shoe - Wow. Maybe the most comfortable shoes I've ever put on. Super soft upper and very lightweight. Lots of cushioning. Almost feel like slippers but still seem supportive.

Been running in Asics Gel Kayano's for over 20 years. Every new pair is consistent to size, and are comfortable and perfect for running right out of the box. These lived up to my expectations, and I still consider them the best running shoe available.

I tried out a bunch of shoes for running moderate distances of 3-5 miles. I ended up settling on the Kayano 30. The Saucony Guide 16 and Mizuno Wave Inspire 19 were both in a very close second. I tried all of the shoes in a 11.5 wide. Gel Kayano 30: Best overall for a person with a wide and flat foot, who wants support and maximum cushion for long runs. This is the perfect shoe in that respect. -350 grams -Softness: 5/5 -Support/Guide: 4/5 -Smoothness of heel to toe ride: 5/5 -Width: Wide Brooks Glycerin GTS 20: Best overall for a person with wide and flat foot, who wants a firm and nimble feeling ride and support. This is the perfect shoe in that respect. -350 grams -Softness: 1/5 -Support/Guide: 3/5 -Smoothness of heel to toe ride: 5/5 -Width: Wide Saucony Guide 16: Best overall for a person with a wider foot, who wants a medium level of cushioning and support. This is the perfect shoe in that respect. -350 grams -Softness: 3/5 -Support/Guide: 5/5 -Smoothness of heel to toe ride: 4/5 -Width: Wide Mizuno Wave Inspire 19: Very good for a person with a wide and flat foot, who wants high cushioning for long runs. Very similar fit to the Saucony Guide 16, but with less support, slightly more cushioning, and a slightly less smooth heel to toe ride. Only real downside is that the cushioning is so soft that it "bottoms out" as if the foam isn't thick enough and you hit the harder base of the shoe under the cushioning. -343 grams -Softness: 4/5 -Support/Guide: 2/5 -Smoothness of heel to toe ride: 3/5 -Width: Wide New Balance Vongo V5: Best overall for a person with a more normal/narrow width foot who wants a little stability and soft cushioning. This is a slightly more narrow and slightly more soft version of the Saucony Guide 16. Similar to the Mizuno Wave except that it's more narrow and has a little more support. -320 grams -Softness: 4/5 -Support/Guide: 3/5 -Smoothness of heel to toe ride: 5/5 -Width: Normal/Narrow Brooks Adrenaline GTS 23: Best overall for a person with a more narrow/normal width foot who wants support and a firm and nimble feeling ride for shorter and faster runs. Not a light shoe though. Feels like a more narrow and slightly more firm version of the Glycerin GTS 20. -Softness: 1/5 -Support/Guide: 3/5 -Smoothness of heel to toe ride: 5/5 -Width: Normal/Narrow Saucony Tempus: Very light shoe. Fairly firm and feels a little stiff and clunky in the ride from heel to toe. No real advantage unless you just want a really light shoe. Questionable durability. 310 grams -Softness: 2/5 -Support/Guide: 3/5 -Smoothness of heel to toe ride: 2/5 -Width: Normal Saucony Omni 20: Similar to the Brooks Glycerin in that it's good for a person with a wide flat foot, who wants a more firm shoe with support. But the ride isn't as smooth and the shoe isn't nimble feeling and there's slightly less support. It is slightly softer than the Glycerin though. Very heavy for how firm it is. Would be a better walking shoe. -350 grams -Softness: 1.5/5 -Support/Guide: 2/5 -Smoothness of heel to toe ride: 5/5 -Width: Wide

The best, most comfortable shoes I've ever purchased. No break in period, started off on a short 2 mile stint, meant my expectations, way, way beyond anything I thought it would be. Thinking about getting another pair to save when this pair gives out. The one specification I like seeing written about by the manufacturer is the pronation: I'm flat footed and most running shoes are uncomfortable for me (something I notice right away when I first try a pair on). I thought I was standing on clouds the first time I tried this pair on. Could not recommend more.
