I recently bought artificial plants to put around my pool and deck area because living in South Florida it is so hard to keep plants from sun scorching including those plants that claim full sun in Zone 10. Of all the artificial plants I have purchased, the purple coleus is the most realistic…even up close, they appear real! These make the claim they are for "outdoors". So I put them outdoors UNDER a tree that only gets maybe 2 hours of sun a day. While they looked fine initially they have started to turn white around the edges after only a month. I am disappointed in this item.

I have been slowly converting many of the plants around my pool to artificial ones. So far, I have a large variety of flowering ones, but I didn’t have any just leafy plants. Coleus plants are always nice since they have an added color other than just green. I chose the red ones. Since I have grown many and still have some real ones, I knew exactly what they should look like. So, when I opened the box, I was immediately disappointed. The color just isn’t correct. It just too bright. Kind of cartoon looking. Unfortunately, I think this is a common problem. It would be better if the manufacturers would err on the side of too deep, not to light. If it looks too bright in your house, it’s going to look worse out in the glaring sun. In all they give you 5 stalks. Each one of these has seven branches. Each of the branches is somewhat wired for bend-ability. Maybe not as much as I would like, but you can spread them out a great deal. Then, of course, there are numerous leaves on each of these branches. If you stick them all together in one pot, you could make a reasonably good grouping. I don’t think you would be able to achieve the height they show in their listing unless you had a mound of sorts in the middle. The leaves are made from a faux silk material that has both that silk feel and a little bit of a paper feel. They seem like they would be durable over time. The product claims to be waterproof and fade resistant. These are good things. The printing on the leaves shows on both sides. On the back side there is also pale green plastic veining. The green that is on the back and comes away from the leaves is a light color, but then where it is attached to the larger branch the plastic is a different green. Why? It would look less fake if the colors were the same. The obvious benefits are no watering, no pruning, no fertilizing, and no sweeping up the mess. (otherwise, for me the leaves end up in the pool) Although I would have like them to be more realistic in color, the good still outweighs that. Probably if I got some more, I would go with the other darker color. At $19.99, at the time of my order, it comes to about $4.00 for one stalk. That’s not a bad price. ... show more
