Designed with a Duratread sole that is extremely durable while still letting your foot flex and a removable All Day Cushioning insole. Let me start by saying I ordered a 8.5 wide/C which is what I normally wear, because I like to wear 2 prs of boot socks. If I can't get a wide option then I size up to a 9M. I must agree they fit true to size as advertised. I have room in the toe box to move my toes slightly, the width is snug as it should be with the 2 prs of socks giving it room to stretch/mold to my foot, my arch aligns/rests squarely on the ample arch support, and the footbed is nicely padded. Now, I noticed amongst the reviews people were concerned and returning their boots because of perceived damage/markings on them. I am glad I chose to order a pair to see for myself. Yes they arrived in an over-sized box stating the original box was damaged, so the boots no doubt were sliding around within,making marks on them which is the nature of DISTRESSED LEATHER/untreated.......if you're looking for a boot to arrive in pristeen condition order an oiled or tanned leather boot,often more expensive but visually more appealing out of the box(1st impressions), and usually stiffer requiring more break in time. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture as they looked upon arrival. The pictures on the right are the results of my rituals/gently bending and squeezing shaft, pressing footbed.....my pre break in whenever I get a new boot or shoe, consequently they look a whole lot worse then they looked upon arrival. The boot on the left is the result of a quick treatment similar to polishing and they now look and feel great. Sorry for such a lengthy review, but hopefully this will help someone. ... show more

This is my third pair of Ariat Ropers over the past 30 years, but my first pair of black ones. I've only seen them available in brown before so when I saw them available in black, I put them on my Christmas wish list and my husband bought them for Christmas. I ride horses and have been wearing Ariats as my riding boots for years. I've tried other brands but they just aren't as comfortable, especially for walking, and if you get a lame horse and have to walk three miles back home, you want a comfortable boot!!. All boots need "working in," but I have found that Ariats are easier than other brands. I also buy their hiking boots for my ranch as my daily work boots, and no, I am not paid by anyone to write this review. As a ranch girl, I just have a lot of experience with boots. ... show more

These stand the test of time and work for sure! I live and work on a farm and unless it's super muddy these are all I wear. These do fine in the mud but these are my all the time boots too so I try to keep them not super super muddy if I can. I've had a pair before these(same boots) that lasted me about 6 years before they started to show any bad signs of wear. ... show more

This is my third pair of Ariat boots. I wont wear any other brand! I wanted a pair of black ones that I can wear for work, and these were unavailable on the Ariat site so I was happy to see them here. As they should be, just a tad snug at first, but by second wearing all was good. Plus I registered them on the Ariat site, and they are sending me a keychain! So as any true leather piece of your wardrobe you can expect a break in period. That said I now wear these for everything. I just broke them in by wearing for a few jobs at a time until they became so formed, soft,and molded to my ankles, bends in my calves and fit to my feet (and I have a tricky left foot so it took a little longer) it was so worth it. My feet stay dry and now I can wear warm socks in them. There is just enough tread on the sole that I can where them on the ice and feel confident (but have to still be careful of course). I live in Wisconsin so it is important. Only negative thing is they have a USA patent, and are made in China. ... show more

I almost dropped a star from these boots, because mine arrived with some very noticeable scuffs on the front of them, and I was initially very disappointed. (See pix) However, I buffed the scuffs out with some leather cream, and it worked well enough that I consider them within the normal range of appearance for leather boots. Boots ain't supposed to be "perfect!" Anyway, they are the most comfortable boots I've ever tried, and that is critical, because good looking boots are of no use if you can't wear them. I have plenty of room to tuck jeans in at the calf, which I was worried about, because my calf area is a little larger than most. After trying these boots, I'll not hesitate to buy Ariat again, truly I'm just thrilled with them! ... show more

I put these on right out of the box and wore them all day - Comfortable! Most shoes & boots I buy, I put in arch supports, or cushioned liners. Have not felt the need with these. I live on the rain-sodden Oregon Coast, rural area, no pavement in sight, and have not had wet feet yet. Once I accidentally wore them into the paddock when it was very muddy and mucky: Came in, wiped them down with a damp, wrung-out microfiber cloth, dried with dry clean microfiber - looks like nothing ever happened. ... show more

I have a pair of these boots in brown that I got a few years ago. I've been wearing those boots all the time and wished I had some just like them in black. I asked Santa to bring me some, but he didn't get the message, so I decided to just get them myself! They are absolutely perfect! Still breaking them in, but over time I know they'll be just as comfortable as my brown pair. I wear size 8B and the sizing on these is very accurate - keep in mind that they will be a little tight at first (my husband has to help me get them off!) but they do soften up. And there should be a little slippage in the heel - not enough to cause blisters, but boots shouldn't fit like regular shoes. I would absolutely recommend these boots! ... show more
