Description

The Twin-Cam Shield Pivot System on the Arai XD helmet allows the faceshield to operate fully under a peak that can be lowered for better aerodynamics. Its high-flow peak channels air directly into the front vents. Dual TDF3 top intake vents and Double Delta bridged exhaust vents are designed to draw a significant volume of air from the helmet interior. The shell, constructed of fiberglass composite, is stronger and lighter and allows the use of softer, less dense liner materials for increased rider comfort. An efficient chinbar vent, with interior and exterior controls, flows fresh air to the mouth area or across the shield interior to help prevent fogging, while large chinbar side exhaust vents draw out additional hot air. Arai XD series helmets can be configured with shield and peak, peak only, for use with goggles, or shield only.Fully Removable Replaceable And Washable Liner Optional Liner Sizes Available For A Custom Fit Four Top Vents DOT Approved. Meets The FMVSS 218 Standard >Snell Standards

  • Helmet flows lots of air and fits snug on the head but....
So I bought this helmet because I knew that it was very popular and after doing some research it seemed like a really good choice for me. I will keep this very simple and just say that the reason why I don't like it is it puts a little bit too much pressure on my neck at the base of my skull where the neck roll is. I don't know if it's because maybe my size is a little bit too small but it would make riding for more than an hour painful. Pros: quieter than my bell mx-9 adventure. I don't need ear plugs with this on the highway. Flows lots of air that you can really feel. Super aerodynamic even with the peak on. Easily adjust the peak on the fly by simply moving it up and down. Cons: if you do not have the anti fog lens this thing will fog super easy and I mean SUPER EASY. They do not make a pin lock for this they also do not make a transition lens. As mentioned before it puts too much pressure on the base of my neck causing back pain and neck pain. Chin strap double d ring sits really high so even without gloves on it's kind of a pain to strap up. No dedicated speaker pockets but you can tuck in your speakers into the cheek cushions underneath the liner. ... show more

  • Pending First Warranty Outcome (2 Years in)
Been happy with helmet for mostly road riding! Have alternate beater helmet for low speed, more technical riding with goggles. This helmet definitely quietest I’ve owned; however, not all that light. Currently in midst of submitting for my first warranty issue, as clutch-side switch on top front of helmet does not work anymore. Will report back with update on my service experience. ... show more

  • Best helmet I’ve ever owned.
Color: White Size: Medium
I’ve owned a lot of good quality helmets and this one is the best fitting and has amazing air flow. Cardo Packtalk Bold com and speakers fit perfect too.

  • Good but there’s some flaws..
Color: White Size: Small
I love the venting and overall design and the fact in addition to DOT it’s also SNELL rated. I ordered a small and I’d say it runs large for a small. I’m going to say between small and medium. It has one major flaw. It has vent covers that are meant to come off for cleaning however it’s very easy to release one on accident. I went to open a vent today (not remove it) and while on highway it just flew off and was ran over by the car behind me. I’m not happy about that. This is a bloody expensive helmet. Hopefully Arai can send me a replacement fast.. ... show more

  • Always a Shoei guy... until now.
Always been a Shoei guy, have a couple of RF1200s and some older models. Just a good fit and value for the dollar. Wanted a high viz dual sport helmet for my dual sport bike. Shoei didn't have what I wanted. Arai XD4 - wow, checked all of the boxes. Lightweight, better fit than even my RF1200s, ventilation is great, and very little, if any, wind buffeting without a windshield. With a windshield depends on your bike and shield setup. The windshield on my other bike is set up to blast the wind right at the crown of my helmet so the XD4 catches some, but not near as much as I thought and not enough to even bother me. The fluorescent yellow is an awesome eye-catcher. I can't count the number of times I've had people glance my way and start to pull out and then do a double take on the helmet. I'm not lost in the crowd anymore. Couple of drivers have given me a thumbs-up while pointing to their head and nodding. This color actually makes a difference. Notches on the visor are great, can get a small crack if I want one at stops or around town. I can't say enough about this helmet. I'm a Large in all other brands and the Arai fits right on with the others. I don't have the pressure points that I do initially with my Shoei helmets. They go away with wear but this Arai fit right at the start and now 2,000 miles later still fits perfect. It's expensive compared to some other helmets but the build quality is worth it, fit is great, and people WILL notice this lid. Arai safety is second to none. ... show more

  • Once you go Arai, you'll never go back.
This is my second Arai helmet and first of the XD series. Before this, I owned a Quantum 2 which served me faithfully for 6 trouble free years. After checking up on the lifespan of helmets I decided it was time for a replacement and cashed in my credit card points. There is no doubt that this is an expensive helmet. It costs twice that of most of its competition. In my humble opinion (developed over about 7 years and 40k miles of mixed surface riding) it is worth every penny. Read below if you need the specifics. Or just buy one and see for yourself. The pluses - * Looks - just look at that bad boy. Its like I stole it from Master Chief when he wasn't looking. * Ventilation - the race/street helmet features have made their way into the dual sport arena. Toggles and switches are easy to find and operate. Their direction is intuitive. When you open them you feel a solid stream of cool air. There is no doubt that they do the job and do it well. * Protection - its an Arai, snell 2010 and ECE - what more could you ask for * Versatility of shield, peak, goggles combination. * build quality - the shield snaps shut with a solid thunk, the peak is well affixed. The padding on the inside is better than my Quantum 2 - its clear to me that they've upgraded the touchy-feeley surfaces and the padding underneath. Bravo. The minuses - * weight - its on the heavy side * cost - its ~$600, but cmon - you spend a bundle on your bike, keeping your head in one piece to enjoy it should not be an afterthought * no pinlock on the stock shield. * shield changes require tools ie you can forget about morning or mid ride shield swaps if the conditions change. All in all - I am extremely satisfied with it. I've ridden in cold weather with it, I've ridden in 30+ mph crosswinds, and I've ridden on a few warm days. I felt the pull in the crosswinds, but it was not unbearable. ... show more
