This is a really great intermediate to advanced student violin. It has a clear tone, rich in the lower register, but a little brittle on the upper A string. It has powerful projection, one doesn't have to work too hard to get a lot out of it. It also has the nicest set up I've ever seen, especially the pegs, it's a joy to tune. It lacks the resonance of say, a Zhu (which I also own), but those top end models are four times as much as this. I agree with the first reviewer in that you may be able to find better, especially if you can find a Ming Jiang Zhu 905 for under $1500. That instrument is amazing and for only a few hundred more. Nothing is as pretty as this Eastman, though, its varnish and appearance is top notch... ... show more
