  • Great value! Avoid the high cost of other name brands and save some money with these!
Style: Fresh Scent Size: 100 Count - (22 x 22)
After reading other reviewers' posts, I can understand why some say these pads are not worth the money, yet others swear by them! Let me first say my experience is rather... extensive lol For years, I've been an animal foster parent with a local animal rescue. It's not uncommon for me to house 2-3 dogs/puppies, 3-4 cats/kittens, and a rabbit or 2 (eh, why not?). Plus, I have my own resident 6 yo beagle mix who puts up with my mayhem. It's typical for my home to house a new foster pet every 1-2 weeks! With that said, I've used these pads with a variety of dogs of different sizes, breeds, and ages. Perhaps I can shed some light on the effectiveness of these pee pads! From my experience, these pads DON'T leak from puppies and dogs under 10 lbs. Once your furry friend uses his indoor commode, remove the soiled pad and replace. Whenever I left the soiled pad sitting for too long or allowed a foster to reuse the same pad, the urine and feces will leak. Yet, other pads are so very costly --even the ones from a big retail grocery store and especially from a pet retailer like PetSmart or Petco! Those pads also leak when left on the floor while soiled or allowed to be re-used by dogs and puppies 10 lbs. and under. For dogs and puppies over 10 lbs., you'll be hard pressed to find any training pad that won't have some leakage. So what's a good pet owner to do when they can't promptly remove a soiled pad or who are fortunate to raise a large breed puppy or house a not yet housebroken adult rescue dog? In these situations, you can save money by only allowing the potty area to be on tiled or laminate flooring. Or, you can invest in a hard, plastic pee pad container in which you place the disposable pee pad on top of. Just to throw out a few other tips for housebreaking clean-up... do you have a fun-loving, rambunctious puppy who just loves to tumble right into the pee pad area, toss those training pads around, and then pee RIGHT NEXT to the pee pad (if only it hadn't been tossed around)?! A nice trick is to pickup a thin roll of masking tape and tape off the corners of the pee pad so they stay put! This works on carpet as well; however, you might want to line your carpet with either a hard, plastic training pad or trash bags in order to save your carpet. Regardless of which route you go for your training pad purchase, DON'T use newpapers! Some people try to cut costs by using old newspapers, and if you're in a bind until the morning, these will do in a pinch. However, newspapers definitely and readily leak through. Plus, that nice newspaper ink just runs through to your flooring. It's worth it to buy training pads! As a pet foster volunteer, these are my go-to for training pads. If you want an affordable training pad with a decent quality, these work great! Enjoy and happy housebreaking! ... show more

  • Smart, dog-friendly design
Style: Fresh Scent Size: 100 Count - (22 x 22)
I want to acknowledge this company for using visual design to help my 10-yr-old chihuahua mix "hit the spot" perfectly, each time. I adopted my pet from a rescue shelter about a year ago, and discovered very quickly that she had no prior training in relieving herself indoors on a pee pad. I bought what I thought were the top-of-the-line charcoal-activated pads, which are dark grey with a light grey border on all four sides to indicate where the pee area ended and the hardwood floor underneath was about to begin. I found that my pup rather haphazardly peed sometimes right in the middle of the pad, and sometimes on the far edge, with half the pee leaking onto the floor and under the pad. A "mess" to clean up! What frustrated me most, though, was that my very, very smart pup did not seem to know the difference between when she made a "hit" versus a "miss" (or "mess," my inner voice said). This surprised me, since I made a game out of discovering and rewarding her for each "hit"--a game she loves so much that she has gotten into the habit of dropping very big, unsubtle hints whenever she thinks she's made a "hit." And although it's tricky to accurately assess a pet's emotions, I began to feel her frustration and even disbelief when I reluctantly told her she made a "miss"--as evidenced by her going back and forth, several times, to the scene of the "miss," as if to check on my judgment lol!!! About six weeks ago, as luck would have it, I ran out of pee pads and could not get my usual brand, so I settled for another brand that had a white interior surface, and a neutral colored plastic band around the edges. And almost immediately, I noticed a change. My pup started scoring direct hits most of the time, with only a few misses here and there. This caused me to remember something I read long ago about color perception in dogs. Pretty much everyone knows that dogs are colorblind. But what does that mean, practically speaking? Well, from a dog's perspective, everything is sort of grey. A red ball, thrown to a dog on green field that rolls into high grass, is--to a dog--a grey round object hidden in a grey thicket. The dog won't find the ball by sight, because it can't tell anything in that scene apart, based on color. It goes by smell. There are two colors that dogs can see well, though--bright yellow and bright blue. When I remembered this point, I started a search for a pee pad that employed color as a cue to help a dog quickly distinguish the allowed area for peeing from the surrounding, off-limits area. And that search led me to this product, the AKC puppy training pads. Dogs are color-blind, but they can distinguish shades and intensity. The first thing I noticed about the AKC pads is that they use a top layer of absorbent material that is white with very high brightness factor, like top-of-the-line, bleached printer paper. Immediately, this intense white causes the "hit" area to pop out of its surroundings. Then, for the protective layer underneath and the border around the pad, the AKC pads use a very intense, bright, baby-blue plastic. This is another big cue to the pup about where a "hit" is about to turn into a "miss." My smart, but nevertheless still color-blind, pup got the point of these new pads instantly. Since the moment I laid down the first of the AKC pads, she has been proudly delivering "hit" after "hit"--and I, thankfully, can finally see a future without another "miss" to clean up! My pup and I live in an apartment in the middle of a major city, and so it has been imperative to me to ensure that she is a well-trained user of pee pads. It was breaking my heart to see how hard she was trying to do the right thing, with results that she was struggling to comprehend. Those days are behind us now. And I have this product to thank for that. ... show more

  • Very LARGE, THICK ABSORBENT PADS. I LOVE THEM
Style: Fresh Scent Size: 50 Count - (XL 28 x 30)
Love them.. The LARGE size really helps the pups always hit the pad, with no leaks. It also is very soft and absorbance and a GREAT price, I think! If you have a litter of puppies, it's very easy to cover their whole pen area, with ease. Helps them get used to walking on the pad that they will use for a potty , so they will know right away what it is and know exactly what it is for. Use in their potty area in their pen, right away, then EACH DAY, slowly move it a little more towards the door they will use to go out to go potty..eventually just put it in front of the door.... if there is a litter, one will usually follow the other, and do what that one does. So hopefully The LEADER will go to the pad and quickly learn, that going outside to potty, is Much Better...because POTTY TREATS are given!! Slow, Steady and, Happy or Stern Reinforcements, by way of Excited (ALOT of Praise and Love Hugs/Petting and TREATS) or Mad, Disappointed Human(Stern Voice and No Treats, No Petting!!) Puppies are very smart... they know and understand when YOU are happy or mad.... all they want to do is please you..they LIVE for their Humans. So, just let them know, if they have an accident, immediately pick up the trainee...put it's nose in the wet spot...be stern with a NO NO, take immediately to Potty Pad or Outside..wherever they are in their training. No more words are needed...they know you are upset..you just have to make sure the pup understands WHY you are mad. Well, I didnt mean to get carried away...but that's exactly what I'm doing right now with a new puppy! Happy Training! ... show more
