Description

Training Pads are ideal for puppies and dogs that stay indoors for long periods of time. What you should do; Unfold the training pad and place it in a confined area. (Blue plastic side down). It is important to place your puppy or dog on the training pad several times a day in order to get him used it. on the average, a puppy must relieve himself every few hours, based on his age (a 2 month old puppy every 2 hours, a 3 month old every hours etc). If your pet relieves himself somewhere other than the designated spot where the pad is placed, bring him back to the correct spot immediately. Keep in mind that your pet will have to relive himself shortly after a meal and will need to eliminate more frequently during the summer when his water intake is higher. The minute your dog begins to relieve himself on the pad, be sure to use cures like “go potty”. You should use this cue every time that your dog relives himself on the pad so that he associates the phrase with the action of elimination. Every time that your pet used the pad successfully, make sure that you give him a treat and lots of praise. Treating helps your dog to understand that he is doing what you want him to do. Always remember to dispose of soiled pads and replace them as needed. When your pet begins to relieve himself on the pads, on consistent basic, it is time to begin moving the pad closer to the door. Keep moving the pads closer to the door until they are actually outside. At this time, the training process will be complete.

These are super basic. They are not great, but they are budget friendly. I have used all types of puppy pads, and some of the very expensive ones may have an added benefit, but not enough for me to keep buying them. These.. well, the price is right. I have them for my elderly cat who does not want to use a litter box despite having them in various convenient locations and kept super clean. So, since she likes going on a puppy pad and seems pretty consistent with using them, I go ahead and buy them. I go through a lot. Here are my thoughts on why I think they are worth the purchase: Yes, they are thin, they can leak (see below), and that they *should* have a better quality being the AKC brand. However, these are just like the other cheap ones in its category- thin, can leak, no frills. Yet, these are cheaper than the cheapest among other cheap, low quality brands. SO, for a purchase within the category of CHEAP, BUDGET puppy pads, these stand out in terms of price (since they are same as other cheapies). NOW, compared to another quality/price tier of puppy pad-- where they are thicker, perhaps more absorbent, might have carbon, and multiple layers, and draw moisture away from top.. they are pretty good.. but also priced way way more. It is a toss up. What are your needs? Kinda like 1 ply smooth commercial TP vs triple ply multi textured TP. Both work, one you may use more of, the other you will pay much more for. Both are fine depending on needs and preference. As for the leaking.. I notice that is more a matter of WHERE the urine is deposited and how much. If the urine comes out quick with decent volume AND it is near or on the edge of the pad.. then, yeh, it will leak to the floor. I haven't noticed it leak directly through when the pee is in the middle. I tend to put down a few layers at once just so I can "grab and go" the spent puppy pad. Sometimes I put down a reusable puppy pad (large washable pad) OR a towel.. then these on top. I think my cat likes the additional padded feel and it also helps any leakage or over shoots. I dont just use a towel or a reusable pad on its own because unlike these pads.. the towl/reusable tend to smell AND I would still have to go through multiple of them a day to make it work (sometimes I do-- use a combo of big towel/reusable, then smaller tea towels on top.. really just using these disposable pads are way easier and more cleanly). I have considered a puppy pad holder tray.. but Like I said, I go through multiple per day because I try to grab them almost as soon as they have been used. These do a fine enough job. When it came time to buy another package, the 100 count I had purchased was not available. I took a moment to look at other brands (of this style) as well as some of the really "good" ones that I liked in the past (which now have mixed reviews about changed quality with still same high price).. and I simply came back to this American Kennel Club puppy pad product to see if they had it in the 150 count. They do, and so I ordered (a few minutes ago). Make it a subscribe and save item for even greater cost reduction. And so I decided to write this review. Let you know my experience and why I am making a point to buy this again despite my freedom to choose among every other offering available :) Hence, my 5 stars. I keep buying them! I hope this helped you, one way or another. Your needs may be different than mine and you will want to look into other types.. or your needs may be similar and will appreciate what these have to offer. Basic, simple, lightly fragranced, and inexpensive. PS. I included a pics that show what it looks like underneath a pile of urine. Unlike cheaper brands this has a scent that attracts your pet to the pad and encourages them to go on the pad vs other parts of the house. Does not leak and has good absorbing properties. The scent also keeps unwanted odors away. Good value and quality. I hope you find this review helpful.

After reading other reviewers' posts, I can understand why some say these pads are not worth the money, yet others swear by them! Let me first say my experience is rather... extensive lol For years, I've been an animal foster parent with a local animal rescue. It's not uncommon for me to house 2-3 dogs/puppies, 3-4 cats/kittens, and a rabbit or 2 (eh, why not?). Plus, I have my own resident 6 yo beagle mix who puts up with my mayhem. It's typical for my home to house a new foster pet every 1-2 weeks! With that said, I've used these pads with a variety of dogs of different sizes, breeds, and ages. Perhaps I can shed some light on the effectiveness of these pee pads! From my experience, these pads DON'T leak from puppies and dogs under 10 lbs. Once your furry friend uses his indoor commode, remove the soiled pad and replace. Whenever I left the soiled pad sitting for too long or allowed a foster to reuse the same pad, the urine and feces will leak. Yet, other pads are so very costly --even the ones from a big retail grocery store and especially from a pet retailer like PetSmart or Petco! Those pads also leak when left on the floor while soiled or allowed to be re-used by dogs and puppies 10 lbs. and under. For dogs and puppies over 10 lbs., you'll be hard pressed to find any training pad that won't have some leakage. So what's a good pet owner to do when they can't promptly remove a soiled pad or who are fortunate to raise a large breed puppy or house a not yet housebroken adult rescue dog? In these situations, you can save money by only allowing the potty area to be on tiled or laminate flooring. Or, you can invest in a hard, plastic pee pad container in which you place the disposable pee pad on top of. Just to throw out a few other tips for housebreaking clean-up... do you have a fun-loving, rambunctious puppy who just loves to tumble right into the pee pad area, toss those training pads around, and then pee RIGHT NEXT to the pee pad (if only it hadn't been tossed around)?! A nice trick is to pickup a thin roll of masking tape and tape off the corners of the pee pad so they stay put! This works on carpet as well; however, you might want to line your carpet with either a hard, plastic training pad or trash bags in order to save your carpet. Regardless of which route you go for your training pad purchase, DON'T use newpapers! Some people try to cut costs by using old newspapers, and if you're in a bind until the morning, these will do in a pinch. However, newspapers definitely and readily leak through. Plus, that nice newspaper ink just runs through to your flooring. It's worth it to buy training pads! As a pet foster volunteer, these are my go-to for training pads. If you want an affordable training pad with a decent quality, these work great! Enjoy and happy housebreaking! ... show more

These pads are amazing, they hold a lot of liquid. And I love the larger size. They are everything that I could want in a training pad, and the thickness is just right.
