This is a heavy winter coat with a generous amount of synthetic fill. I'm 5'10" (178 cm) and the coat comes down to my knees. It looks and feels like it is well designed and well constructed. The fabric seems fairly water resistant but I will put a couple of coats of Camp Dry on it before winter to waterproof it, and I definitely won't wear it in the rain without my poncho. Synthetic fill is generally a better choice than down for wet weather. It should insulate when wet and dry quickly. I got my normal size and there is ample room for layering. I can fit a thick sweater, my down vest and my puffy down jacket with a hood underneath the coat with no problem, if I should need to. It is a heavy outer layer, I'm not going to wear it without multiple layers beneath. I have no idea how warm this will be, I can't find any temperature ratings. I would have preferred more pockets but after putting it on I see why they chose just the one small interior pocket. I tried to fit my knit cap and balaclava in the pocket and even those small items felt bulky. There are two side pockets for mittens and quick access items but I will keep pocket stuff in interior layers. The hood doesn't fit and adds nothing to the coat. I unzipped it and don't plan to wear the hood or even keep it with the coat. If this coat were $200.00 or more it would be a good value and I would rate it 4 stars for the poorly designed hood but this coat is an exceptional value at less than $40. Everything else seems to be nearly perfect for my needs. I may update this review after wearing the coat in harsh winter conditions. ... show more

I bought this for myself as a female since I wanted a hardy winter coat that wouldn't just look nice but would actually keep me warm during the winter when temperatures get below 0. For reference, I purchased a small and I am 5'10'' and about 150 pounds. It's absolutely perfect! Super thick and warm, the arms are long enough, and there's still room for me to wear plenty of layers. The other women's jackets I looked at appeared thin and I worried they wouldn't be warm enough. The weather can get very cold pretty rapidly here. This coat is WARM. My son is 6ft and about 370lbs, the coat reaches his mid calf and he has plenty of room to layer if or when needed. Sleeves are perfect length, no smell, good fabric, my dogs think it's their new bed. So pet approved as well

This is a gorgeous and heavy jacket but it arrived filthy. It was in a box but not in any bag but it’s clear someone had worn it getting it filthy and then returned it.
