I've been using these legal size manila folders with the top fasteners in my work for decades, and always got the "official" ones at my local Staples or OfficeMax, but on my most recent trip to get a box, I took a hard look at the price ($35.99 for 50), and thought to myself, "pretty sure I can do a lot better than that on Amazon." So, yeah ... these folders are a LOT less expensive than the ones I usually get, but they're also not as sturdy. The card stock they're made out of is thinner. The fasteners don't seem as nicely finished either (maybe one coat of paint, rather than two (?) ... more likely to rust if exposed to any moisture/dampness), but they do function the same. If you handle/carry these around a lot, you're going to find that they wear out/get damaged easily, and should probably spend the extra $$ on more durable ones. However, if you only really need these to keep limited, smallish amounts of paperwork organized, and they spend most of their time stored in a file cabinet/box or shelf somewhere, you'll find these an excellent value for that purpose. I think they're made by Smead for Amazon Basics ... a slightly more "budget" version of the folders sold by Smead under their own label. Another good value from Amazon Basics.

I purchased these photos at a reduced cost because the manufacturer offered damaged ones for a lower price, but not for storing papers in! Though buying the slightly damaged pack would, in itself, be a good value, I bought these in order to glean the metal clips from them for cloth mask-making during the pandemic. Yes!! They were perfect in helping me to solve the problem of masks falling off the nose! We trimmed off the centers of each metal strip to divide them into two smooth, narrow strips. When we stitched the side seams of each mask, we left a small opening on one side and inserted a strip into the seam so that the top of the mask could easily be flexed to fit securely over the nose. No more annoying and unsafe slipping, and no more fogging of eye glasses, either! We had an abundant supply to make our own masks and, the remainders soon became on item on hot demand by co-workers all over the company my husband works for! Not the use of these folders one would expect, but perfect for the times to fix a problem we had!

These have been great in terms of being a nice folder that gets the job done at a price that is usually better than the rest. I have noticed that the paper may be deteriorating after long periods of use (back and forth in a briefcase). It goes from a nice smooth texture to a feeling like construction paper. But they get the job done!
