  • Disappointed
Size: 8 Color: Grey
These are my second pair of Escalante's and I'm really disappointed in them. I was so excited to slip them on and go for a good run. I only got 1 mile in and noticed the tongue of the shoe had bunched up near the toe box. On my second run, I decided to use the tab on the top of the tongue to put the laces through before the last hole thinking that would hold it up. Well, that also did not work. I attached pictures to show what I mean. I think the tongue being made of a soft cloth allows it slip down. My first pair seems a little stiffer and I never had this problem. Unfortunately, I'm training for a marathon and won't be using these now. I'm SO BUMMED!!! ... show more

  • An Interesting Change
Size: 9 Color: Teal/Lime
I'm not a big runner, I mostly jog at a slow place. My biggest mistake is that I did not research Zero Drops before buying these. I actually saw them on a website of "most comfortable running shoes for 2020". Having experienced some painful shin splints the past few months, I thought I would switch to a more comfortable shoe. But I had no idea what Zero Drops were. (FYI, don't buy them on the fly like I did - not smart.) First, I want to thank Altra for putting a small card in their shoeboxes to explain what Zero Drop is and that switching to these shoes will make the calves sore. It was a HUGE help. I tried to alternate walking/jogging in them on the first day, but only got a mile before I had to return home, whimpering. This was not the shoes' fault so much as it was my own for not researching Zero Drops before I bought them. Since then, I've been using them to walk casually on alternate days, and I find I don't have sore muscles if I walk slowly (like, 20 minutes/mile kind of pace instead of my usual 14 minutes/mile pace - told you I jog very slow). They are very comfortable and I think the concept of Zero Drop is very interesting. I hope if I can get used to them, I can start jogging in them, too. If you're totally new to these (obviously this wouldn't apply to a runner who has effectively switched and loves Zero Drops) I would recommend trying these on at a running store first and walking a bit before buying them. ... show more

  • Best running shoes to date
Size: 10.5 Color: Rose/Coral
I suffer from Morton's Neuroma and the pain is excruciating. I found these shoes in an article and took a chance. Oh. My. Goodness. These shoes are fantastic. My feet are still healing so I can't over do it, but the relief was almost immediate. I did give myself time to acclimate to the zero drop soles. I do still have to take mini stretch breaks, but it is so worth it to save myself the pain in my foot. I used to run all the time, but I had to stop because of the shooting, burning pain. Because the ball of my foot isn't getting compressed, I'm able to do so much more, and I'm so happy with the way I've been able to get back to it. The only negative thing is that you do need to size up. I went up half a size based on previous reviews here on Amazon, and I'm so glad I did. They would be too small otherwise. I probably could have gone as much as a full size up. Keep that in mind when purchasing these shoes. These shoes also require some transition time. Our bodies are mostly used to traditional shoes when it comes to running. ... show more

  • Sad
I am SO sad to write this. I have owned several pair of Altra shoes and loved them! I am looking for an all-black shoe (sole too, which is hard to find) for walking a few miles at a time, working out, and sometimes wearing to work. I know that's a lot to ask. I love the look of these, they're just what I was looking for! I get plantar fascitis plus broke a toe which didn't heal right many years ago and Altras normally feel so good. The Escalante 2 is a bit stiffer, but that's fine, I like the support. But it was really tight across the "toe bones" of my good foot and super painful hitting the knobby bone on my bad foot. Going to have to return them. ... show more

  • not for everyone
Size: 9 Color: Teal/Lime
Not to knock down the brand, but it's really not for everyone's feet. My boyfriends loves his Altras and swears it's the best shoes ever, I got a pair to to try myself and I could not take more than 5 steps before it started to hurt! Yes the toe box is very wide, no pinching of the toes, but Altras are EXTREMELY narrow in the lace area and pinches the top of my feet. I had to unlace the whole thing just to get my feet into the shoe, and this pair is a half size larger than my normal size. Taking a few steps started to hurt, without the laces even tightened up, when I removed the shoes, it left a red mark on the top of my foot right above my big toe... If you have flat and wide feet, Altras might be great, but if you need arch support or have thicker feet like myself, these will not work at all. ... show more

  • Hate the 2.0!
Size: 11 Color: Grey
The 2.0 is a terrible version of this shoe. They feel like uncomfortable blocks of wood. Stiff, unresponsive and uncomfortable. Just walking in them I felt flat footed and plodding. I have purchased many pairs of both the 1.0 and the 1.5 and they were/are the best running shoes ever for road running and, at least for me, for all distances from 5K to marathon. I wouldn't run (or walk) in the the 2.0 if they were giving them away. Please fix this for the next version! ... show more

  • Eh. Won’t buy these again.
Size: 8 Color: Black
First I should start by saying I don’t like buying shoes online...cuz you just never know. The shoes are comfortable and offer great support. They offer quite a bit of arch support. They look nice and fit as expected. I have skinny feet. And on rare occasions, I’ll buy a shoe that just seems too “bulky” around my toes. Which is exactly what happened with these shoes. The outer fabric is a molded mesh. With every step I take, the bulky area around my toes, only on the left shoe, the fabric pops back down. So each step I take creates a popping noise created by the molded mesh fabric around the footbed of the shoe. I don’t find it bothersome in the gym because it is usually loud enough in there to drown out the noise. But I can feel it in my foot. It also inhibits my ninja abilities. I can’t sneak up on anyone while wearing these shoes. Comfortable? Yes. Quiet? Not on my feet... These shoes are just “so-so” in my opinion. I won’t buy this particular shoe in the future. ... show more
