Description

Believe it or not, the popular Escalante just got even better. With increased decoupling in the midsole and outsole for more flexibility on the run, and added perforations for breathability in the upper, this Escalante 2 has a better fit and better performance. We've also added an updated insole that is less susceptible to compression and offers a better step-in feel.

  • Comfortable shoes
I ordered these because the toes are foot-shaped, and I really need that roominess and comfort. I was hoping that my regular size 8 would fit, because I usually have to try on shoes to make sure my toes aren't scrunched. These fit just fine and I have room to wiggle my toes, too! The thing you need to know is that these shoes are "flat footed", there is no arch in them and the heel is NOT higher that the toes. Since I run around the house barefooted all the time this is not a problem for me. They don't weigh anything - so lightweight. Very comfortable. They are actually marketed as running shoes, but I don't run, they will just be my wear everywhere shoes when I don't wear sandals or flip flops. I don't know what "stretch" is in the ratings, but I gave it a 4 anyway because I like the shoes. Edit: I now have ordered a second pair, since I have been wearing these shoes more than I have ever worn shoes, and I don't want them to wear out too quickly! ... show more

  • Don't size up. These are great for Morton's Neuroma
Don't size up. I went up half a size based on the feedback and sizing chart. I ended up having to return those because they were way too big. I purchased my normal size and they fit wonderfully. There's plenty of room and my toes do not feel cramped. The arch support on these is lacking, however I just put in my custom inserts and now these are my favorite shoes. I wear these when working out and out and about. They have helped with my Morton's neuroma to give me pain-free workouts. These are AMAZING. I have been searching for shoes that would allow me to continue working out without shooting pain in my feet. I finally found shoes that allowed me to do a 40 minute cardio routine without having to stop because of pain in my feet. I do have to pull the laces a bit tight otherwise my foot moves around too much in the shoe. However the toe box area is wonderful. ... show more

  • Absolutely Amazing!
I was first introduced to this brand of shoe from a Hiking outfitter for hiking shoes that were comfortable for hiking mountains. I was so impressed with them that I started looking for a style of this brand for work. I'm a Postal Letter carrier and walk on an average of 8 miles a day. I've been doing it for 17 years and have always worn new balance, which had to be replaced every 3 months or so as the support would break down and no longer be comfortable. After trying these shoes it was like walking on cotton! I was so impressed I bought 2 more pair! So far they have held up well. Usually within 1 month my old brand would start showing signs of wear. So far very little signs of wear. Sole is still looking like new! Now waiting to see how many months I can get out of them! I may never go back to my old brand! ... show more

  • Eh. Won’t buy these again.
First I should start by saying I don’t like buying shoes online...cuz you just never know. The shoes are comfortable and offer great support. They offer quite a bit of arch support. They look nice and fit as expected. I have skinny feet. And on rare occasions, I’ll buy a shoe that just seems too “bulky” around my toes. Which is exactly what happened with these shoes. The outer fabric is a molded mesh. With every step I take, the bulky area around my toes, only on the left shoe, the fabric pops back down. So each step I take creates a popping noise created by the molded mesh fabric around the footbed of the shoe. I don’t find it bothersome in the gym because it is usually loud enough in there to drown out the noise. But I can feel it in my foot. It also inhibits my ninja abilities. I can’t sneak up on anyone while wearing these shoes. Comfortable? Yes. Quiet? Not on my feet... These shoes are just “so-so” in my opinion. I won’t buy this particular shoe in the future. ... show more

  • Fits my foot
Very excited to say these shoes fit perfectly. I usually wear a 9 1/2 (or a 40) and that's what I ordered, based on other reviews. I have had Altras in the past but have found them to gap on the foot and they felt sloppy. These have a good fit in the heel and mid foot with plenty of room in the toe box (more than enough, without puckering). The foot bed is firm enough not to squish but also has a gentle arch support. They look great on my foot, the tongue is minimal which I like (doesn't stick out), and the zero drop is so good for my back. I love this brand and am so glad to be able to wear them again. Yay!! ... show more

  • Best running shoes to date
I suffer from Morton's Neuroma and the pain is excruciating. I found these shoes in an article and took a chance. Oh. My. Goodness. These shoes are fantastic. My feet are still healing so I can't over do it, but the relief was almost immediate. I did give myself time to acclimate to the zero drop soles. I do still have to take mini stretch breaks, but it is so worth it to save myself the pain in my foot. I used to run all the time, but I had to stop because of the shooting, burning pain. Because the ball of my foot isn't getting compressed, I'm able to do so much more, and I'm so happy with the way I've been able to get back to it. The only negative thing is that you do need to size up. I went up half a size based on previous reviews here on Amazon, and I'm so glad I did. They would be too small otherwise. I probably could have gone as much as a full size up. Keep that in mind when purchasing these shoes. These shoes also require some transition time. Our bodies are mostly used to traditional shoes when it comes to running. ... show more

  • Excellent product... order a half size smaller than normal for this style Altra's.
Haven't worn these yet, but this is my second pair of Altra's. I love the larger box in the toe area. I run and walk in these and have no foot pain, like with other popular brand athletic shoes. They are very light weight, and this particular style run big. My first pair of Altra's were size 71/2 so my son ordered the same size in these for me. When they arrived they were too big, had to exchange them for a 1/2 size smaller. Fit perfect with the 1/2 size smaller. I love and recommend Altra's! ... show more

  • Foot-shaped means logical walking
Great shoes for running or walking. Good fit in the box (front of foot area) whereas most running shoes tend to be cramped. Not over-designed (many shoes today have soles that are too thick but this sole is about max 1 inch thick).
