I love Altra Escalantes. I've worn these for running for about 7 years. Super comfortable, no need to break them in, they are perfect from the get go. Foot shaped toe box without having to get a wide size. Minimal cushioning, and flexible sole. I regularly get 600 miles out of a pair as compared with the Nike Free shoes I ran in previously which lasted 350-400 miles.

Ready to order my second pair. I do Zumba five times a week and they have held up really well. They are a year old now. They are light and easy to twist and turn in. I have a wide toe box from side to side and they fit perfect, feel great.

These shoes are comfortable. The sole is not overly think, but provides more cushioning than minimalist shoes. The zero drop feels natural. The toe box is wide, but the instep is a bit snug. Wish is were a bit more loose. The eyelets close to the toe are actually sown to the tongue, so that area cannot open up at all. Not a great design. The laces were short, so I replaced them with elastic speed laces. These provide more give and stretch. While these shoes are not perfect, they are the best I’ve found so far. Bought a second pair when the price was low.

I love the wide toe box on these. Very comfortable and can walk long distance with them. They are not waterproof, so if it rains, your socks do get wet.

I have a very difficult foot to fit complicated by a bunion on one foot, so have tried many shoe brands which often I look forward to removing by night. These have the been the most comfortable just out of the box to walk and wear ALL day for my feet. For me, they have comfortable cushioning and support, and so far my knees and back do not bother me. They also do not make me stumble when I walk--a real positive at 75. I'm so glad I took the chance to try them.

This is a nice, lightweight comfortable show with a great wide toebox, look nice (mine navy blue and I switched out the white laces for navy blue) and good for errands and such. But for serious walks, I feel they provide no support to propel me forward. I have to work harder to walk in these - as stated like I am walking uphill on sand. I can't return and I will use for knocking about, but will look for something that helps my movement does not work against it. Wanted to avoid the price of Hokas - but maybe that is the answer.

Wore these fresh out of the box moving my daughter into her dorm all day on Saturday. That morning before moving her, I ran a few miles in a very Hilly Neighborhood. I read the negative reviews and I did not have any issues with the things mentioned. There is a shorter tongue, but it did not bother me at all, I like it. As far as the shoe being true to size, I think it's true to size/ to slightly bigger.... If you're new to Altra, yes, The very room toe box looks a little funny being so wide, BUT I love the fact that I can feel the ground, it's roomy, and I am closer to the ground than wearing a super shoe all the time! I've also done an unhill treadmill workout and they were great...no complaints! Love how light they are!

Best shoe for people that have back problems. I'm on my second pair which lasted a full year if not a more. I got a blue pair and black pair. My favorite was the blue. Very stylish and felt like clouds on my feet. They do run true to size. They gave me support where I needed it and less pain in the legs and back. I will most definitely buy more when it's time.
